Thanks! You’ll really like this line, I think, it’s my HG now. Love your curls too!
Btw, you might use a spray bottle to refresh your hair between washing. These misters are really nice. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N7RLM7V?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_asin_title
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend that for misting. You need something that will aerosolize the water droplets. This makes big drops and you need tiny ones or you'll get pooling. Something kinda like this is better because it's mists gently and continuously for tiny little droplets, almost like an aerosol can.
But that fan might come in handy if you happen to already have that spray bottle with you.

If water pools then I get a paper towel and barely touch the pool of water to soak it up, you're aiming for thousands of tiny beads of water across the surface. Then crack the lid an inch or so. Don't use a sprayer, use a hair mister for better results when spraying. Good rule of thumb is if you think you didn't mist enough, you probably did so stop. lol.
Gotta pay respects to someone else on here that directed me to this sprayer. I think it actually made a big difference. It’s a way finer mist than what I was originally using, almost like creating an artificial fog of himidity.
A lot of the stuff in a grow kit is unnecessary. I would also add a couple of dollars for a spray bottle that gets a super fine mist for small water beads. And maybe a 4 pack of those cheap temp/humidity sensors for the grow area to check ambient temps in the room. A lot of the stuff is reusable. The spray bottle is important and the exact one can be found here Beautify Beauties Hair Spray Bottle – Ultra Fine Continuous Water Mister for Hairstyling, Cleaning, Plants, Misting & Skin Care (10 Ounce) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N7RLM7V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GRFP2CG2N9E33HN7KWRN?psc=1

I'm curious if the brakebuster would eat through this? I can get these locally for under $10 and they have amazing spray but maybe with product in them it would be foamy? Not sure.
I use a paper towel then let whatever's left evaporate before misting again. If you're using a spray bottle stop, order a hair misting bottle
This is the mister I use! It's perfect! And yeah the velvet one I had didn't make it. I even bought it it's own personal humidifier and it wasn't enough :(
I think this is better and half the price.
FAE is clearly not the issue. Do you mist often? I find this happens a lot when they get too dry. Mushrooms are over 90% water after all! And I imagine they feel like the dried up grandma from the Spongebob chocolate episode once they get to that point. So they give up and you’re left with what you got. Still 100% edible! Just try again next time, get one of these nice mist bottles, and mist 3 times a day just for about 2-3 squeezes of the trigger each tub from a minimum of 3 feet away. And fan lightly for what some say a minute but I don’t tell a difference doing only 15-30 seconds.
Mush luck!
I never tried, went with a still air box, and then got lazy and ended up just quick inoculating with sterile needles from the package with no flame sterilization or still air box(though the closet I was in acted like one probably.) One person suggested leaving a blank Petri I dish in front of it for 30 seconds, and leaving one to the open air. Though I think you might see some growth, I honestly do see this working given my experiences now with “sterile tek” and successfully growing 11 different strains over the course of 2-3 flushes each
I’ve learned that the online mycology community, though well intentioned, seems to have this obsession with “proper” techniques and sterilization. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I think it blinds people to common sense, sometimes they develop a superiority complex if anything is mentioned outside of the norm or accepted technique.
As of now, I’ve inoculated 40 bags of uncle bens rice, (QTY. 2) 2 pound bags of rye berries, and 5 pounds of birdseed. This has been across 12 different cubensis strains, and some Galindo Sclerotia(magic truffles)
On the rice I meticulously followed sterile teks on the first 12 bags. It took me like 2 hours to inoculate the bags. Used a SAB, flame sterilized needle between each bag, meticulously wiped each bag, tools, hands, and arms down with iso, threw on a face mask, the works. Out of the 12, 4 bags showed no colinization at all (all 4 same strain MS syringe), but also showed no sign of contamination in the 20 days before I tossed them( I chalked this up to me probably forgetting to shake the syringe before attempting to inoculate, or an impotent syringe.)
The remaining 32 bags were done in open air, in a small closet, with no needle sterilization between bags, and a largely carefree attitude about it like “if I get contams, I get contams, oh well I have a shit ton of others to fall back on”. I used a fresh strerile packed needle that came with the spores for each strain, wore gloves, and spayed down hands with 70% ISO between syringes, THATS IT. To my suprise, of the uncle bens bags, none were contaminated during inoculation. After, I spawned into separate shoeboxes for each of the 8 different strains, all of them were successful with the exception of one tub which I later discovered I accidentally used coconut jasmine rice which is full of coconut oil (and I’m not really sure it was even contaminated, just massive white growth which I assumed was contamination due to the extremely fast rate of growth and differ appearance form the others. But laster after coming back to dump the container, I not only smelled a strong coconut smell, but a faint smell of mushrooms! Then after further research I came across this interesting article called “The Feasibility of Using Coconut Residue as a Substrate for Oyster Mushroom Cultivation” which REALLY has me curious if I accidentallystumbled upon a new awesome tek! More experimenting to come In this regard
Out of the 12 jars of truffles done using rye berries, I had 3 become contaminated, but that wasn’t until after I opened all 12 jars up two weeks in (after full colonization) to dump some water that was pooling in the bottom of the jars (I think my gas exchange holes were too tight in addition to the high temps in my grow room combining with the heat given off during colonization in the jars caused this)
My key take always from my new hobby are these:
This process takes a LOT longer than I expected. The time from initial innoculation to first harvest was almost 2 months. Having to tend to them every day and watching them constantly like a shit-hawk certainly doesn’t help the time to pass any faster.
Contamination’s are worth it during inoculation if you’re planning on growing in bulk- the time saved not giving as shit was totally worth the very few amount of contamination’s I ended up with. Also, as far as I can tell, none of my contamination’s happened during inoculation. Spores are cheap as fuck, and bags of rice are $1.50. If I can manage to get a single successful non contaminated grow, I’ll have spores for life, and even if I manage to waste an entire spore syringe- it was like $5, so what?
Penis envy, and APE, are some of the coolest fruits I’ve ever seen! After experiencing PE, and seeing the size of these MASSIVE fruits, I almost don’t want to grow anything else lol. All other strains almost don’t seem worth it compared to the genetics I have.
Lighting- people think too much about this IMO. I’ve successfully grown beautiful healthy, straight standing, non fuzzy feet fruits, using a fluorescent light that’s already in my closet, mounted to the ceiling about 8 ft above. I had no lighting schedule, just turned it off or on as I walked by sometimes, or when misting, sometimes even went days with the light one way or the other on/off.
Not all spray bottles are created equally, “misters” from Walmart put out droplets which are too big which are harmful to the exposed mycelium, and can easily result in overlay. the best I’ve found is this one on Amazon called a “fine mister” but these are China made pieces of shit, and I’ve replaced 2 already. Haven’t found a viable alternative worth a shit yet though.
That’s about all I’ve got, sorry that none of this really has to do with your original question, but I’m cracked on aderall right now and felt like putting this out there. Might just post it later, though I’d expect a huge hate train for my sterility blasphemy.
Edit: spelling/formatting
PS- forgot to mention the bird seed: successfully inoculated 2 pint jars of BPE, and 4 jars or blue oyster mushrooms. 2 weeks later, I attempted my first G2g transfers between the 2 jars of BPE, into 8 jars from a different batch of sterilized bird seed. Every single one of the 8 jars that I transferred to had the same black pin type mold contamination. This was first and and only “major” loss IMO.. considering all 12 contaminated with the same thing, I’m thinking there must have been something messed up with my insta-pot pressure cooked when I was sterilizing the seed, I’m must have hit the wrong setting or time or something (not sure because I leave it to sterilize/cool overnight). But considering I only lost about 2ml of spore solution, and $5 in birdseed, and gained some new experience? Worth it.
