For some reason, whenever I swim, I get crazy amounts of ear wax buildup over the next couple of days. I used one of those Japanese ear picks for a while, and it helped, but then I discovered this glorious device. Fill it with warm water, shoot it into your ear, and repeat. The first few sprays probably won't produce much, as it needs to soften up the wax a bit first, but then big chunks of wax start coming out of your ear and suddenly you can hear so much better. It's the most satisfying thing ever.

The photos in the Amazon reviews are disgusting, but they'll give you an idea of what will be coming out of your ears.

I get these so frequently it's crazy. And they're huge, like 3 times the size of that. I got this thing on Amazon and it's literally a godsend because they're not dropping down the back of my throat as I try to cough them out.

I'll be honest, I have ear wax issues. Despite others here saying wax is SUPPOSED to drain from the ear, mine does not. I've had issues my whole life. I don't use Q-tips because I was also told it was bad.

When I can tell my ears are getting bad, I will use hydrogen peroxide (~~HO2~~ H2O2), of which you can buy a lifetime supply of for $1. That with a bulb to force water in usually helps for the average person. I like this method just to listen to all the fizzing. It's like pop in your ear.

Every once in a while I need to go to the doctor to get my ears cleaned. I only do this when I'm losing hearing though since it can get pretty expensive. They use a squirt bottle to with a small funnel on the end and force warm water into your ear. This is the result. Gross as all get out, warning you.

I recently bought the tool they use on Amazon, but there is something that the doctor does a lot better than me. They can get a lot of nasty gunk out of there.

In summary, warm water with force, and funny chemicals. All much better than a Q-tip.

i use these drops and a syringe. let the drops soften up the blockage, then use the syringe to push to potatoes out. point the syringe against the wall of the ear as opposed to perpendicular with the ear canal. this way you flush the water out instead blast the wax further in. i get blocked ears a lot and this usually helps me after 1-3 attempts depending on severity.

There's something on Amazon called an Elephant Ear. $30 seems a little much for a plastic bottle and some tubing, but it's got to be cheaper than a doctor. I've used mine three times in three years and each time, out plopped an impressive, firm wad of ear gunk along with a little "pop!", followed by deliciously crisp hearing. It's awesome.

At this point, I look forward to impacted wax just to get the satisfaction of cleaning it out.

Doc told me to get one of the kits that have the drops that bubble up, let that work for a while and then use the included bulb to rinse it out. That's basically exactly what they use there just a lot less hardcore. They said if you do that every six weeks or so that should be fine. Link

It's a syringe for your ears that won't let the water go directly on your eardrums so you can put more pressure than a regular syringe. Works well for me.

If that was in my ear I could probably get it out, but I have been doing this for 20 years. I don’t recommend that others start sticking things in their ears. A professional can get that right out. One thing that you might want to try is the Ototek loop. It is safely made so that it cannot go too far in the ear canal. It’s the first tool that I ever used to clean my ears.

One of my ears had a build-up of wax that cleared out after using some wax softener off of Amazon. It was this same subreddit that got me to try it. A lot more people have wax build-up causing hearing loss than you'd think. They'll blame it on old age, or get so used to it they forget what good audio sounds like. It's only really obvious when you go deaf or feel like you're under water.

There are also cases of tinnitus occurring from wax-build up or people puncturing their eardrums because they stuff their Q-tips deep inside. God forbid you live with tinnitus for the rest of your life.

Yep, sure is. Do you have a bobby pin (for hair) lying around? You could try to gently hook it out. I've had better luck with that than the cotton tips. Skip the local pharmacy. Just order a 50ml ear cleaning syringe off amazon. Get a bowl of warm water and flush your ears with it until all that shit comes out.

At my clinic this is what we use. Warm water with as much hydrogen peroxide as you want.

Is It flakey? My ears were getting super flakey and causing more sebum than usual. Every. Single. Day. I had to clean them. I looked it up and it’s a form of yeast that can grow inside the ear canal. If it’s bad enough a doctor can prescribe things for you but what I found works best is..... t gel. T gel or nizoral dandruff shampoo. Wash your ears with it, around then and suds really good. Kind of suds the inside then rinse. If I take a bath I do the same and dip my head back, rinse and make sure to let my head lay back and recline in the water where the foamy bubbles are from scrubbing out the shampoo. That way the water can enter my ears and really get in there. Then throughout the bath it kind of just gets cleaned out as I keep going under water.

But if you shower, suds the ears w t gel or nizoral shampoo. Definitely check into fungal ear overgrowth if you are having abnormal sebum or flakes that must be cleaned every day, every other day. Oh!!! And also macks I believe it’s called makes an ear irrigation kit that you literally put drops in, earplugs, it dissolves the gunk— and then you rinse with this squirty tool. It’s $5-7 at local drugstores. There’s multiple brands.

I like to use theses 1x per week and I started 3x in a row to really get my ears clean. I want to try elephant ear cleaner off amazon. You should read the reviews, watch the videos of it actually working! It takes out hugeeee chunks of wax you didn’t even know you had. Some impacted by q tip overuse.

Price is a few dollars more than I remember. Maybe I got it on sale, idk. Anyway, it's stupidly simple for how well it works.

I imagine others work similarly well? I haven't tried them. The more pressure you have the ability to deliver deep while aiming, and having an exit path for the water, the better. On mine, the weird blue tip helps with making sure there's an exit path.

Probably the most important part of the technique is figuring out where your ear wants it angled. I also like to use my free hand to pull back on my ear, which straightens the canal.

I actually deal with a lot of issues with my ears and have for years. Every three months or so they’d get clogged and I’d have to go to the doctor. Eventually, I just sprung for the spray bottle thing they used at the office and asked what solution to use (1 part peroxide and 3 parts warm water - making sure the water is warm is important do you don’t give yourself vertigo).

It’s fantastic, and I haven’t had a problem and saves me unnecessary visits to the doctor - especially during the pandemic.

Get yourself an "earwax removal syringe". I was having buildup issues in one of my ears that was seriously affecting my quality of life and this thing has been a godsend.

It has a removable guard tip with 2 special design features:

1. The nozzle splits the water in multiple streams directed more toward the walls of your ear canal thereby reducing risk of damaging your eardrum and also increasing mechanical effectiveness.

2. The large guard tip prevents excessive insertion into the ear and the large holes around the outside allow water and debris to flow back out the ear freely.

It usually take many flushes, and you need take care with how forcefully you do it. The optimum Angle of insertion is neither immediately intuitive nor apparent for one not intimately acquainted with the structure of the ear, but can be found with a few tries and it's a pretty distinct feeling when you find it. I start with water that is just barely warm, flush with that a few times and then cool it down just a bit, not quite to the point it feels cold mind you. My thought process is that the slightly higher than body temp water will soften and erode any blockages, and that the cooler water helps to stiffen it up enough to easily pass back through the ear and syringe head.

I've found doing this in the shower to be the best bet, I think the recommendations say to use a bowl to catch the runoff water and debris but it's messy and hit or miss with facial hair involved.

The satisfaction of seeing a nearly pencil eraser sized plug of wax afterward and the clarity of my hearing is priceless.

These clean out ear wax better than anything else I've tried. I've never had the tip break off before, but it can happen, so just tilt your head toward your shoulder on the same side as the ear you're cleaning.

Could be earwax build up, if you have a cotton bud you could try clearing it out but be careful not to go too far in obviously, also if it is blocked up you'll probably just push it in further which won't help matters.... Still at least if you'll know if it was ear wax you could get some ear drops in pharmacy to loosen the wax then go to gp and get them to flush it out with a syringe (pleasant ticklish experience) or could try it yourself with one of these.. takes some time tho

You can get DIY syringing kits on Amazon, the syringe has a flange on it to prevent it being inserted in too far, and it squirts the water out at an angle to protect your eardrum.

That's an ear wax removal spoon, widely used across Asia but practically unknown in the west. Asians have different ear wax consistency and it doesn't just flake out, it clumps and needs to be manually removed with a spoon. Here's a article from the NYT

I bought this kit. At first I was just going mining with the little sticks, and I'd get a few. Once I shoved the irrigator in there (the needle looking thing) and flushed it out with water.

I have the same problem. It took me 15 years of adulthood, but I finally figured out how to do it myself. You can buy plastic versions of the same tools that the ear doctor uses. You can even get a cheap endoscope these days.

Anyways, if you use a scraper like this weekly, you won't have blockages again.

The outside of my ears get a daily cleaning as I wash the rest of my body.

I carefully use q-tips just inside the ear to wipe away detritus and ear wax on the edge. Q-tips are fine for this purpose, you just don't want to jab them into your ear and compact the wax deeper.

About once a month, I use a Debrox Earwax Removal Kit . . .putting a few drops in each ear, waiting for it to react, then rinsing it out with the little bulb.

If I don't clean out the earwax every month or so, I tend to get a stopped up ear or infection. . .your mileage and needs may vary.

That is a pretty great device that I have used to clean my ears out because I also have earwax problems.

Hydrogen peroxide is pretty great too just by itself.

In a pinch if you are panicking you can create suction in your ear with your finger and rapidly remove your finger and that will also help dislodge wax.

For me I think my dtv5 is as portable as it gets unless I go to carts. I don't know if this device has any sort of concentrate storage, but my dtv5 has a storage container that can probably hold a gram of wax, maybe a bit less. That means the only other thing I need is my dab tool, which just sits on my keychain. I use a single cell box mod which on a full charge can last at the very least three days of decently heavy use, and one or two clean cycles, so when I'm using it by myself I don't need an extra battery, and while I've brought an extra just in case, I haven't ever actually needed to swap a battery even when using with friends.

I definitely get that the size or form factor can be important to some, but for me if I need something actually discreet I bring a cart.

I use Debrox about 2-3 times a year and it works great for me. It's crazy how well I can hear after doing it.

If you do try it, get the kit that include the ear syringe/bulb.

This how I do it:

Add 4-6 drops in one ear and rest your head sideways, I just lay down. Leave them in for 10-15 mins. If it's your first time, you might need to leave it in for 30 mins.

Get a tissue and place it up to your ear and tilt your head to empty it, now do the same process to the other ear.

I then get a tall glass of warm water, it must be warm and not cold or hot. Fill up the syringe with water, insert it in your ear and aim upwards at the roof of you ear. Then squeeze hard to flush out any wax. I do this over my bathroom sink. You won't see wax come out right away, so keep doing it. For me it's about 10 pumps to get all the wax out. You'll be shocked at the amount of stuff that comes out, it's pretty disgusting tbh but it feels great when it's all done.

I use an Elephant Ear Cleaner. It really gets the job done. It is easier used with another person who knows what they are doing however (IE just don't stick it too far in).

Dtv4 + pico + stash cap is the most ideal portable setup. Bonus points for keeping a little kit that has your device, dab tool, screwdriver, Nd qtips in. But yea I use an old beats solo case Nd it goes everywhere w me. No joke. Literally everywhere. Also look into getting this Nd adding it to your car key keychain. It’s my portable dab tool I always have w me nd is great for when I can’t bring my whole kit which has my actual dabber in it. Hope this helps tho also one more thing it’s hard to find a pico with micro usb nowadays so beware of the usb-c ones as Arctic fox doesn’t work on those. The owner of divine tribe is talking to eleaf about making a new pico with auto fire built in removing the need for Arctic fox tho so look out for that. I sure know I will!!

Just remember to clean it between use and really dry your ears. Otherwise, you are asking for fungal/bacteria infection (dont ask me why I know)

Putting anything in your ears can cause this. That said, I would suggest an over the counter wax removal kit to get the remaining impacted wax.

Sadly you either gotta get over the ear or in the ear. There are some that don't need to be shoved deep in your ear canal to work though like Loops or Decibullz. Loops have an actual "loop" that helps keep the basic plug in place. Decibullz are custom moldable so all you have to do is drop em in hot water til they're pliable and then mold em to your ear shape.

we use stool softener (docusate sodium) like 1-2ml in an ear, let it sit open with the patient on their side. Drain it out. Then we use the elephant spray bottles with ~20% hydrogen peroxide and 80% warm (not cold, not scolding, luke warm) water.

You never want to shove anything in your ear very far, you can rupture your ear drum. But this warm water/h202 mix with the nozzle, aiming in like a circle around the dead center of the ear canal, works wonders. I bought one of the spray bottles so I can do it myself at home.

Wanted to comment on your video but I got stoned and distracted. I have a keychain dab tool that has it's own cap and all so it stays clean. here is a link. I know amazon not the best place to pick stuff up, but it at least can give you an idea of something that may help your "on the go" setup.

I've had it done by a primary care physician a couple of times. I also REALLY like this product. I use Debrox to soften things up and then use the syringe with warm water to flush it all out. Fair warning, my husband once used it way too enthusiastically and hurt his eardrum. I've never done that though.

I’ve had this problem a few times myself. I always thought I just produce a lot of ear wax 🥴 but maybe I have small ear canals too!! Lol. I’ve gone to the dr. for it before and they basically just flushed my ear until the blockage came out 🤢 I recommend these drops. Depending how bad it is you might have to repeat the process a few times to soften things up but it works for me

I am not a doctor. I do not know what kind of wax you have. do not take my words as medical advice. This is just what has worked for me. Look into the Ototek Loop You put it in your ear and start digging. It has a guard on it to prevent it from going too far in your ear. I don't use these anymore because I use ear curretes, but these are safer.

Also, consider the elephant ear. Use some debrox first and then rinse with this thing. It is powerful, but should be safe. Again, I am not a doctor and do not know what is going on in your ear. Do not take my words for medical advice. These things have just worked for me.

I used to have these issues too. Like other poster said, adding oil (olive oil etc) for several days in a row twice a day helps before hand. I think purchased something called Elephant Ear system (this is similar knock off) and it works really well for me and the rest of my family. I now do this maybe twice and year and I no longer get blockages. WARM water is key.

meh, qtips are one of the worst things to use in your ears. really offtopic here, but you can use peroxide. tip your head, dump in a capful, let it sit a few minutes, then tilt your head to the sink to dump it out.

Consider cleaning out your ears of built-up wax over the years. If you're the type to push your Q-tips inside your ear canal, like a lot of people, there's a chance that dried earwax is sitting on your eardrum. There's some ear-wax softener on Amazon you can try at home for a few days.

So I've tried several of those ear was removal kits on Amazon. I regularly have my ears impacted with wax, so frequent cleaning is critical. This is by far the best one I've tried, and it's far cheaper than all of the others. I'd also recommend getting a cheap "ear wash basin." It cuts down on the mess and helps you inspect whether you "got it out" or not. Pro-tip (given to me by my audiologist): fill the syringe with 50/50 hydrogen perxoide and warm water, flush after letting Debrox sit for about 3-5 minutes.

I've had better luck with this. I fill it with 1/2 hot water and 1/2 hydrogen peroxide. I do it monthly, after a shower when my earwax is softer. Works like a charm and definitely helps mitigate my T.

One time I pushed earwax into my eardrum with disposable hearing protection (ironic I know) and It absolutely would not come out no matter what weird internet remedy I tried. After about a week of this I was so tired of it being there (because it hurt and deafened me in that ear) that I went to an urgent care to see what they could do. My siblings have wet gummy earwax, but I have dry ear wax. Our parents are asian, so I think it depends on your genes even if your parents are full asian. I can clean my ear easily with an ear cleaner tool, but my siblings have to use a cotton swab. Apparently, if you have wet ear wax, your body odor is stronger, too.

The oral syringe is a lifesaver. It removed tonsil stones that I could never extract with a Q-tip. I mix a 50/50 solution of water and mouthwash, load it into the syringe, then squirt it right into my tonsil-holes. The stones pop right out.

Pro tip: When you use the LED light wand try turning the light off in your bathroom. Makes it easier to see the stones.

I also have a water pik, a tongue scraper, alcohol-free mouthwash (don't get the kind with alcohol! It will make your breath WORSE, not better) and a Sonicare electric toothbrush. I recommend all of these things, but at LEAST get a tongue scraper and tonsil stone remover kit. They're much cheaper than water piks or electric toothbrushes and make a bigger difference.

The routine I try to follow is:

1. Electric toothbrush 2x/day
2. Tongue scraper 2x/day
3. Water pik 1x/day before bed
4. Finish it off with mouthwash
5. Lay in bed and floss while I watch TV
6. Flush out tonsils about 1x/week

I only just recently started this routine in the last 2 weeks or so because I realized I had bad breath. Happy to report it has made a HUGE difference in my breath and my gums no longer bleed.

If you don't have tonsil stones you probably just need to floss and/or use a water pik.

When I started using my water pik I was amazed at how gross my gums were. Even though I had been flossing regularly, as soon as I activated the water pik I could smell/taste that poopy bacteria smell as the water ejected it from in between my teeth. I even found what looked like tonsil stones, but they had been in my gums!! Gross.
