I would recommend this book : Behind the Myths - the Foundations of Judaism, Christianity and Islam
I don't think anyone can doubt the existence of Jesus (or Joshua, his real name). There were countless of Joshua acting as prophets at that time.
Nobody knows if the Jesus in the new testament is the story of only one or a collection of all the Joshua prophets (and probably others, not necessarily Joshua).
