We have a big ugly concrete patch in our new backyard that we can't really remove and isn't good for much. I want to turn the area into a container garden, but my dream planters like this are out of my budget and building my own is not really in my skillset. After googling around I see pics using found objects like kiddie pools, plastic storage tubs, old dresser drawers, etc. as planters. This would certainly fit my budget, but the posts are all kind of glib about how to actually convert these containers into planters. For instance, are there certain kinds of plastic I should avoid? Wouldn't I need to drill holes in the bottom of these kinds of non-porous objects, and if so how big/how many? Won't things like dresser drawers get soggy or moldy? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!
I'm lucky enough to have a pretty big patio with a ton of sunlight in the city in zone 8b. I'm looking to grow some herbs and vegetables this year, and I'm in the process of acquiring my hardware. Right now I have two of these that I'm hoping to use for peppers and herbs. I've been told I should get separate urns for tomatoes, and I'm thinking I'll grab a zucchini plant and some leafy greens as well. What sort of urns do people like? Anything I need to watch out for? I'm pretty nooby.
I used one of these and started from there
