As a Beyerdynamic fanboi, how about the DT 770 Pro 80 ohm?
Personally I combine mine with a AntLion ModMic Uni to great effect.
I can highly recommend a set of Beyerdynamic DT-770s. I've had mine for 3 years and I use them every day at work. You can probably find them cheaper than Amazon if you look around. You will be able to grab them used for cheap too if you don't mind that.
If you can stretch to $159, the Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro are excellent and well regarded by professionals.
It's not part of the Amazon Prime Day deals, but the DT 770 Pro 80 ohm is $134.95. Not abnormal, but it's pretty much the lowest that it usually goes for.
Cool, thanks for the tip, that's really useful. I'll check them out if I can find some in the UK. What's the sound quality like for music, can they do decent bass?
There's a pair I have my eye on, but I've no idea if they'll do the death grip without trying them on. I'm assuming the answer is yes.
No, dt990's are black for pro and silver for premium. I was mistaken though because i glanced at the amazon listing. The lighting makes it look grey, but i guess its the same weird black texturing
How much experience do you have with headphones? Usually if you're just going for music listening it's good to have a little color to the headphones, maybe a little more bass or treble depending on your preferences. Also what kind of music do you listen to? A lot of people prefer a more flat sound, though, so it entirely depends.
The M50x can be a good starter pair. It has kind of boosted highs and pretty significantly boosted bass, not a lot of sounstage but solid detail and clarity. They're also closed back and provide a lot of isolation.
There's also the a few good AKG headphones like the K240 and K92 but they're pretty flat and AKG is known for not having a ton of bass.
I don't know how massdrop handles customs or if they ship to europe but the HE 4XX is basically a steal at ~$140 USD if you're able to put a little more money in. It's also open back, though.
You may love the HM5, though. They're not a bad headphone at all they just don't align with my preferences so I usually use them for their flat response rather than their musical capability. If something doesn't have enough bass you can also EQ it if nothing else. If you don't have a lot of headphone experience it can be hard to recommend headphones since I don't know what you like. My best advice is take advantage of the refund policy with amazon or something. Try out a pair or two and just send them back if you don't think you like them, just make sure you give it at least a few days if not a week to see if they grow on you.
Edit: I know it's not technically under 100 euro but the DT 770 is 114 on amazon which might be your best bet. Just prepare for pretty amped up high frequencies haha.
I'll get closed back then, I didn't really think much on it until MilkManPhil asked me to pick between Music or Game, Music has bass, Game wouldn't have bass... I went music because like you said I can alter the EQ if the bass is too much in game.
I am going to listen out for other recommendations but for now yours seems to be the best, Do you have a amazon link to the exact thing your on about, I have this but there are multiple OHM's and I'm not sure what you're referring too.
edit: Thank you so much for the recommendation by the way :D
I strongly suggest getting a non-gaming headset like others recommend. Something like the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro for example, or a Sennheiser, and you can get a fairly good (at least good enough to be at the level of a gaming headset) mic to clip on like others have said. WORLDS better than gaming headsets.
I'm gonna go with the 80 ohm version after reading more, I'm buying them in Canada on amazon but there seems to be 4 versions and all of them have different prices and shipping. Here is the link to amazon, is the "Gray" 80 ohms the same as the "Grey" version? Because for some reason "Gray" is 219CAD and the "Grey" is 276CAD with extra shipping. Same with the black version, it seems to be the same headset but it's 256CAD. Does it matter which one I order or can I just order the "Gray" one since it's the cheapest at 219CAD? In the picture the only difference I can see is one has grey pads and one has black pads, is there any other differences?
DT 770 PRO 80 Ohm l https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_FZZ5XRJG278JAG8SG61R
I've had these for 3 years and they still sound as good as new. The sound quality is amazing. After years of buying gaming headsets I realized how trash the quality is.
my post was deleted so im reposting it here:
Basically ive been using akg 371 for awhile now, but after an hour or two it starts to hurt my ears and it gets very uncomfortable. I never had this problem when I had my larger gaming headset cause the ear pads were very large. But of course a gaming headset isnt for listening to music.
I was looking into the dt 770 pro because it looks very comfortable. I know it will be much more comfortable for me than the akg 371 cause i have large ears: https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=sr\_1\_1?crid=AR9YV8PG9GUC&keywords=dt770+pro&qid=1639933170&sprefix=dt+770+pro+%2Caps%2C65&sr=8-1
But my question is, are they really that bad? people seem to not like them cause they have harsh treble. Is this really something I would notice? Also is an apple dongle enough to drive them? And is 80 ohms recommended if you dont have like a real amp? Thanks.
I recently got the Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 80ohm paired it with the ifi hip-dac2 (189$). You need the apple lightning to usb connector (30$). Approx 350$ spent but will blow the apple airpod max out of the water.
The Beyerdynamic DT 770 are also available in 32 OHM for a little bit more of a price (approx 150$) but should run on your iPhone without an amp.
Definitely add the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm to your list.
Regarding the options your mentioned:
If your not against It I’d recommend checking out the used and after market for a pair of Beyerdynamic 770 pro I got mine for about $50 on FB marketplace. They were my daily driver when I first started into hi fi stuff. Easily my favorite buy in this price range that wasn’t an IEM.
They are quiet sturdy so buying aftermarket aren’t too risky. Only negative is the cable is non detachable and LONG, but lots of people mod the to be detachable and their are a ton of guides.
I have had these headphones for like 15 years now. Had to replace the pads recently. These are some honest sounding headphones. I mainly use these for DJing, very unique and don't do much to the sound like Sony's bass boosters or w/e. Not ideal for your A to B transport. They're just abit big.
I'm always surprised at how they sound ^^
On the Amazon page for them https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI?th=1 it looks like the ear pad type depends on the color, is that wrong? Also to be clear, since I'm new to a lot of these terms, when you say without an amp that means I wouldn't require to buy a sound card or external DAC for my computer? Also if you happen to know: would 80 ohm be too hard for the PS5 to run since the only jack is in the controller? (If that matters)
Beyerdynamic DT770 are generally considered to be very comfortable by most people.
The 80 ohm version is more easy to drive than the 250 ohm version. So less likely to need a headphone amp.
https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI/
I mean, some people find them bright. But there's a reason why they've been one of the most popular closed headphones for a dozen years or more.
If you find them to be a little bright, you can always tune the treble down with EQ. Equalizer APO with Peace GUI is free system wide Windows EQ software you can use.
Amazon has them with free returns, which means free return shipping if you don't like them
https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI/
maybe if you had mentioned your budget was $200 CANADIAN, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Bro these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016MNAAI?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Get the 35Ohm versions if you don’t have a solid sound card. By far the best headphones I’ve had. Previously used some Senneheisers, HyperX Alphas, Turtle Beach’s, and Logitech ones.
Best of luck man!
Since I discovered a hi-fi store in my town I've been listening to a lot of different cans, and I still swear by my first pair - Beyerdynamic DT770s. They're excellent for bass-heads, and particularly good for listening to EDM or well mastered rock.
They're down to £112 on Amazon right now if you're keen.
I just bought Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80 Ohm Studio Headphones, last week from Amazon, and boy do I like them, a lot. $232 CDN. I also bought a Antlion Audio ModMic Attachable Boom Microphone & Creative Sound Blaster E5 High-Resolution USB DAC 600 ohm Headphone Amplifier with Bluetooth, to go with them.
Not sure what you will be driving your cans with, so you may or may not want/need a headphone amp. Definitely think Beyerdynamics are worth a look. I've found that a proper set of headphones put gaming headsets to shame.
I found them on Amazon UK (I live in Europe so amazon.com is a lot more expensive due to import fees and so on). Here's a link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=770+pro&qid=1575190201&sprefix=770&sr=8-2
Currently I also lean more towards the Dr 770 pros.
They are currently on sale on Amazon UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=770+pro&qid=1575190201&sprefix=770&sr=8-2
Yeah I already own a pair of closed back so it might be time to try something new.
Good luck with the new cans.
These were my first headphones, about 5 years back, and I literally only use these to this day.
There are definitely better options, but for the price? These are the best IMO.
beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO Studio Headphones - 80 Ohm https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_v2VjFb0724TEV
Go read some reviews of the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm and see if you feel inspired. Check out the listing on Amazon for instance, where 78% of users awarded it the full five stars.
IMO it is the best value closed-back headphone out there! And as a bonus your motherboard should have no issue driving it without an additional amp.
Alternatively check out V-Moda's M100.
IMO the best closed-back for the money is the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm
Just go read some reviews on Amazon and see if you feel inspired. It is not to everyone's taste, so buy somewhere with a generous return policy.
Hey, I ordered them from a local audio shop that was doing a promotion. For the 80 ohm, https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI?th=1 I don't know if this is a permanent price or not, but $143 for the 80 ohms is a steal. The Magni 3 from what I've read is beast. It should pair easily with the 80 ohm or the 250 ohm beyers.
No problem, I don't really recommend headphones as it really depends on how they will be used and what people are looking for from them. If you're going to be at a desk and like nice, rich, full sounding music then I'd say go with something like DT 770 Pro 80 Ohms, my favourite headphones I've ever used. You'll need to save a bit more but it's all personal preference.
I highly recommend the DT 770 Pro by Beradynamic. They have a rich and large soundstage despite the fact they are closed-back headphones.
They go for around $200 CAD (if you have an amp, go for the 80 ohm version or better; if not, get the 32 ohm version. I myself have the 80 ohm version): https://www.amazon.ca/beyerdynamic-770-closed-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI?th=1
US$179 on Amazon atm (https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-770-closed-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI/)
Honestly, good headphones are the best bang-for-buck item you can buy when you're starting out. My first pair of DT770 lasted me 12 years, and I thrashed those poor things.
By comparison, when people are shopping for monitor speakers, I generally tell people to avoid anything under about US$1500 - they all have to make compromises below that price..
Beyerdynamic DT770's are great for bass which suits your genres very well. Use the remaining budget for an amp or dac.
alright thank you. I have couple questions.
I have also been recommended the beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, 80 Ohms. Which one is more suitable and why?
What makes the sz2000's better over my sz1000?
Would buying the 2000's solve the phone distortion problem? I liked the 1000s. Would it make sense for me to buy another set of the 1000's and buy a portable amp?
Why 32 ohm though, only because of the budget range? Because the 32 vs 80 are the same price on amazon.de.
I could not tell you about the sound leakage tbh. I never had anyone complain while I was living at home and using them, but I don't remember how much I used them in public areas of the house.
The only closed headphone I have much experience with besides the Fostex is the Beyerdynamic DT-770, which is very comfortable but again will not have the best soundstage for gaming because it's closed. I would get the 80 ohm or 32 ohm version if you don't have a dedicated amp. Also the current Amazon price is pretty high, I've seen them for much lower ($130ish).
The DT 770 Pro comes in several different ohm ratings. Here is the 80 ohm version on Amazon This is a closed back model.
The DT 990 doesn't have an 80 ohm version.
You're welcome. I'm a DT770 owner and they're one of my all time favorite headphones. Comfort is paramount and Beyerdynamic does a great job with that.
if you never needed the headphones to leave your desk the DT770s may be a better fit at a slight price premium. They were under $120 during the Christmas season.
IS there a over ear headphone under $200 USD that is middle of the road good for all types of music but has excellent bass for on the go (no AMP)?
i have the Grado SR80e they sound amazing for rock/heavy metal but i also listen to Classical music and some EDM sr80e lacks any bass what so ever.
i was thinking this one but want to know what you guys think beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm
My recommendation for headphones: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro in 80 Ohm. These are excellent cans - entry-level audiophile headphones that will make you feel like you're there when you aren't playing a VR game. They aren't "noise cancelling", but because they actually fit all the way around your ears instead of resting on them, they accomplish the same kind of isolation. They're also extremely comfortable, with replaceable felt ear cups, and they're built like tanks. I recommend 80 Ohms because they'll be better quality than the 32 Ohm but can still be driven by a phone, Vive, or other mobile device without an amplifier - the 250 Ohm version needs an amplifier. They have a huge driver so can output massive bass, yet are tuned so that they don't add bass - they'll only play it if it was supposed to be there. The detail in the mids and highs is incredible. They're great for VR, for music, and even for recording if you're into that. Just remember that you won't be able to hear much outside of whatever you're playing while they're on.
I've seen more than one video of folks using them with a Vive. (I already happened to have a pair, so that worked out great for me.) But these are a great investment for sound in general - not just for VR. They are built better, sound better, and will last longer than Beats or similar, and yet are only half the price.
Thanks for the information! I found a link for the dt770s on amazon for $30 more. I may go with them because I have prime and amazon is much more reliable. But one thing I noticed was there is a gray and black color. They both look identical other than the earcups, and the black one being limited edition. Am I missing anything, or is it just $50 more for black earcups?
I work in the film industry doing post-production management. Our company uses these babies, as they're pretty well balanced for audio work. Just understand that they're meant for editing, so you won't be getting an over-powered bass, in case you're into that. But if you care about audio work, these are really great. I've loved them so far.
Alternatively, check out /r/headphones for more recommendations.
Good luck, man!
If you're looking to get into a solid pair of headphones without spending so much, I'd recommend taking a look at the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. Get 250 ohm ($200) if you plan to use an amp, or 80 Ohm ($140) if you want to be able to drive them with a laptop or a phone. They sound phenomenal, are both cheaper and far superior to Beats, and will be a great introduction to audiophile headphones.
They won't compete directly with the Sennheiser HD 800, but they're also 1/6 the price. They're also built like tanks, and yet are far more comfortable than something like the Sony MDR-V6 or MDR-V7506, which are more compact. However, the comfort difference is huge and the fact that they sit around your ears rather than on them is both much more comfortable and better for sound isolation from your surrounding environment. These are very popular with folks running budget home recording studios.
Screw 'em. Experiment with something new. In fact, there have recently been many sales on the DT770s which completely obliterate the M50x's. I owned the 80 Ohm varient and can say for sure that they are an absolute steal for the money. (Bass extension is beyond anything I've ever heard.)
Hi! I want good headphones for gaming-bass music use, and one of you recommended me the beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm (I really like them). What do you guys think? I don't really know much about headphones, so i'd like your advise on these.
Also, can you recommend me a pair of earphones with overall good sound? Nothing fancy, just a medium budget pair.
Thank You!
DT 770 Pro (80 Ohms)
I've had these for quite some time now. Flat response and incredibly comfy. I wear them for hours at a time and without itch, pain, or bother.
As a plus, I've traveled internationally many, many times with them and I'll can attest, with 100% confidence, to how incredibly resilient they are.
Finally, they're surprisingly affordable. Hope this helps.
Budget - 200$
Source - Desktop, laptop, phone
Requirements for Isolation- I need a lot of isolation. I am actually buying these headphones to concentrate more while I code in a loud open office space. I am looking for headphones that cancel out people voice pretty well.
Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Yes, office space.
Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-Sized
Preferred tonal balance - Overall balanced headphones I listen to a lot of white noises while I work (ocean, rain) and house/techno music.
Past headphones - Sennheiser HD 419. I loved how comfortable they are, because of the foam pads. What I don't like its the fact that they don't really block outside noise.
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - More noise isolation/cancellation.
I am currently leaning towards the DT 770 80 ohm https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-DT-770-Pro-ohm/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466454698&sr=8-1&keywords=dt770
It says that the only difference between the Studio and the CLASSICS is the name. And the pros are better than the classics so I would return it if possible. Mostly because you are also getting kinda robbed(https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-DT-770-Pro-ohm/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466970379&sr=8-1&keywords=dt+770+pro) here they are only 175. Get that if possible. Or you could go into Hifiman HE400S territory.
Budget - £150
Source - Galaxy S5, upgrading to S7 soon
Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - Yes
Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-size/over ear. On-ears tend to hurt after wearing them for too long. Velvet ear cuffs are a big benefit too as they don't get as sweaty or start to fall apart as quickly.
Preferred tonal balance - Balanced. I listen to a lot of different music from rock/metal to dnb/house.
Past headphones - Only had gaming headsets so far: some cheap logitech ones that were alright, Sennheiser PC330 G4ME, Sennheiser G4ME ONE. Only problems with the first two were the ear cuffs falling to bits (and the mic dying on the PC330s), but the G4ME ONEs are incredible. I just need headphones with no mic to use in public.
Big fan of Sennheiser but I'm willing to branch out. Eyeing up DT770s but I'm not sure what the different Ohm rating changes.
I'd get something like this instead of the M50: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyerdynamic-DT770-Pro-Headphones-Ohm/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1463668850&sr=8-8&keywords=hd558
More comfortable than the M50 by a long shot, and slightly cheaper to boot.
I'm looking at these headphones at the moment: Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro Headphones 80ohm. Would these be suitable for using with my phone and laptop? Also, I listen to mainly electronic music (house, dubstep, techno), would this be suitable for this type of music?
Cheers!
When I was working as an audio QC engineer, I was wearing headphones with glasses for 8+ hours every day and listening at pretty high volumes. I use the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (80ohm) and they never get uncomfortable or fatiguing even after wearing them for many hours. Also they sound damn good and have awesome low-end response I've never heard matched on other headphones, and they're pretty affordable.
http://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-DT-770-Pro-ohm/dp/B0016MNAAI
I have had the Audio Technica ATH-M50x's for 2 years now, and I think it's time for an upgrade.
Are these the next step up: http://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-DT-770-Pro-ohm/dp/B0016MNAAI/ ? I have been looking online and have been hearing very good things about these headphones, as many compare it to the m50x's which I have now and have loved for the past 2 years. However I think it is time for a change. If not these headphones then can someone point me to the next step up after the m50x's please? Also, closed back preferred, since I have a roommate and would rather not have him listen to my music as well haha. Thank you. Budget is $300 or less.
TL;DR:
Budget - $300 or less.
Source - Macbook Pro
Iso requirement-none.
Public use - No.
Preferred type - Over-ear, Closed back.
Past headphones- Audio Technica M50x's.
Preferred music - EDM, House, Bass heavy music.
They're available here. It's the 250ohm model which is the one I have! If you want a close pair, get the 770, if you want an open pair get the dt 990s!
I agree with /u/swordknight/ the M100 is a very solid choice - especially at its current sale price but I figured I might as well throw in the DT770 pro as a suggestion just to give you options.
You might consider the DT770, as well. Bit brighter than the M50X, but arguably superior in sound quality, and a heck of a lot more comfortable to boot. Also has a pretty solid soundstage for a closed headphone, versus the fairly tiny soundstage of the M50X.
Budget - $200-$350
Source - PC and phone
Requirements for Isolation - Definitely closed-back
Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-ear
Preferred tonal balance - I would like the equalization to be a bit more bass-heavy
Past headphones - Mostly junk gaming headphones and Monoprice earphones/headphones.
Preferred Music - Just about anything. It ranges from rock to hip-hop to jazz.
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I just want some nicer headphones that are decent. I also want an amp/DAC combo inside of this budget, whether they're seperate or not I don't really mind.
Note: I have pretty much decided on the DT770's, due to their higher bass frequency and comfort. I was thinking the 250 ohm version, however I was looking for an amp to drive them. Maybe a FiiO E10 or E10k? I'm just not sure if they can hold up that impedance. I've heard multiple opinions on it and I would like a definite answer. Any other suggestions in this price range would be awesome. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
So if I were to get Headphones like these:
What would it take to make them sound amazing? Like do I just plug them into my motherboard and enjoy or could I just use this Turtlebeach AMP I have had for ages and use the optical from it to make it sound better?
Ahh. I was thinking of the Kraken x61, as I would like to be able to move it without being scared that the DH-15 was going to fall off. I'm not really fussed about noise, to be honest. I have a pair of BeyerDynamic DT770 Pros, which block out just about everything. Do you think this will be OK?
I'm looking to purchase some Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO 80Ohm headphones to upgrade from my Razer gaming headset. I don't know much about hi-end headphones but I see a lot of people using Dac's and headphone amps; will I need one? They will just be used on a PC which has an OK soundcard to my ear. Thanks for any help!
No love for the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PROs? $179 on Amazon
I've used a lot of headphones over the years and bought a set of these a little while ago https://www.amazon.com.au/Beyerdynamic-DT-770-PRO-32-Monitoring-Applications-Headphones/dp/B0016MNAAI
Depending on your perspective you might think they're too expensive I guess, but they've got a great flat sound and really comfy.
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (80 ohms)
It would be best to get the DT770's for now, while it is true that open-back headphones have (generally) excellent soundstage and imaging (directional audio) - the DT770's is an exception. Somehow Beyerdynamics worked some magic and made these sound similar to open back headphones, without the usual drawbacks.
A good open back headphones to try, if you want to, is the Sennheiser HD58X. The HD560S (someone else's suggestion)sound slightly better than them, but the HD58X cost $129 here meanwhile the HD560S cost $199.
Is it just damage from falling, or does the child also destroy things the way many children do? (Yanking on cords, pounding with hammers, etc.)
This is going to sound utterly ridiculous, but I'll mention it anyway because it happens to fit your request and they're a good BIFL item for others: I own a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro headphones. I chose the 80 ohm version because they still sound great but can be driven by something as small as a phone. (i.e. no amplifier needed, unlike the 250 ohm version.) These aren't cheap (Amazon currently has them for $166.39, which is the cheapest I've ever seen as they're usually over $200), but they are built like tanks and will last forever, not to mention sound worlds better than anything you'll find in a big box store by far. Solid plastic cups and solid metal pivots mean the will take a ton of abuse, and the closed construction means a] no one else in the room will hear the music and b] the child will be somewhat isolated from external noise. They are also the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn, and the felt covers are replaceable if they're ever damaged.
I know it's overkill for a child, but you asked for headphones that can tolerate abuse, and these can. (Except for abuse of the cord - all headphones are susceptible to that.)
Edit: malformed link.
DT 770 Pro (80 ohm) shows to be $117.99 on Amazon at the moment. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=psdc_9059092011_t1_B0011UB9CQ
I'll throw my recommendation in: I use the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80Ohm version and they're great.
I would start on the lower end of things to warm up to the entire hobby. I can give you a recommendation though, DT 770 Pro 80 Ohms, and a Fiio e10k. This is the setup that I started out with, and it's brought me into the whole thing very nicely. The 770s have really solid bass and decent high end, but some people don't like the 'V' shape that the sound has (aka missing mids). As your just getting into this, I doubt you'd care too much about that. You can get the 770s used on ebay much cheaper than the $180 amazon pricetag, and I would recommend going that way, headphones are something that are easy to pass around. The e10k will give you a nice introduction to DACs and Amps while being very affordable. Make sure to get the 80 ohm version of the 770s though, or possibly even the 250 ohms, but I personally wouldn't try the 32 or 16 ohm versions.
> The radiator is mounted on the top of the case though, in the 240mm radiator slot of the Define R4 (as I'm not using it, the cpu is air cooled). Pic
I think that might be your problem: you have air blowing from one fan directly at another at varying speeds. This can cause loud sound as air from one fan running at one speed hits the fan blades of another fan running at another speed. Can you try mounting your GPU's radiator in another spot, at least temporarily? If it gets quieter, that's your issue. Maybe even just un-mount the fan and let it sit at an angle inside the case for testing purposes?
> Yeah, that's why I bought it, thus my disappointment. The fan is loud, the pump whine/buzz is also loud, even with the radiator fan completely disconnected (was only courageous enough to check it on idle). And it sounds like an airbus engine under load
That actually doesn't surprise me if the blower fan is kicking in to try to cool the entire card, which it wasn't designed to do. If the pump can be heard over headphones, however, that sounds like a bad pump.
> The worst thing is the cards (and not only EVGA, just like all of them 1070/1070ti/1080/1080tis) are pretty much unavailable here and I can't replace it through the shop I bought it in if it's faulty and I'm pretty sure that's the proper way of proceeding with it according to EU customer laws.
I don't know how EVGA's warranty works overseas (warranties sometimes vary from country to country, depending on the manufacturer), but in the US EVGA will do what's called an advance replacement:
If this is an option for you I'd recommend doing it, but take photos and/or video of whatever you receive from them (maybe even a video of you opening the box and examining it) as well as whatever you send to them as I've seen complaints that different manufacturers (including but not limited to EVGA) have blamed customers for damage either caused in transit or while in the possession of the manufacturer. I cannot confirm or deny the legitimacy of these complaints, so better safe than sorry.
> Not over here in EU (Service Hours: Monday - Friday 09:00 - 18:00 CET). Plus I would like to spare myself the costs of an international call (I'm located in PL and the phone has GB area code), so I'm just dropping them an email for now. Oh well.
Fair enough. Is Skype/Google Hangouts/Voice an option for you? That might allow a cheaper/free call.
> I usually play single player games using speakers, because they are really nice speakers and my head hurts after a few hours of using headphones.
Totally unrelated, but I'd recommend considering some better headphones. Check out the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. They're available on Amazon UK for £122.00 and sometimes go on sale in the US; I can't speak for the UK. The 80 ohm version won't require an external amp, and the sound detail is amazing. In addition, the earcups go all the way around your ears so the pressure is spread more evenly across your skull rather than the cartilage of your ears. They're built like tanks and do a lot to isolate noise, both external sounds as well as preventing others hearing what's playing through the headphones. Note, however, that the sound from these headphones is extremely bright. (Louder, more detailed highs, as well as mids and lows.) I love that, but it's harsh to some folks' ears and can cause headaches. My personal opinion is that you can always adjust the sound to be less bright by using an EQ (hardware or software). Since you can never add brightness beyond what a headphone/speaker can produce I personally prefer to start with a bright set of headphones and adjust as needed. Your personal preference may vary, however.
Also available same price Amazon Prime
I don't use wireless headphones, so I can't really comment on them.
Getting good soundstage and bass isn't the easiest combo, as Open backs tend to be better for soundstage, whereas closed back tend to be better for bass (there are exceptions).
For a good mix of the two, I would recommend the DT770 (slightly over the hard limit). It has great build quality, and it would probably be a good fit for both gaming and EDM. However, it does not have a removable cable, so your friend will need to take better care of it.
Other recommendations that have good soundstage and a removable cable would be the Philips SHP9500s and the Sennheiser HD 598 SR. Both are praised a lot for gaming, but will have less bass than the DT770s. If you prefer the HD 598, I would recommend waiting it out a bit, as it is currently listed for $207, but it regularly goes on sale for ~$160. The SHPs have been on sale for at least the last 2 months, however Newegg had them for ~$70-75 a month ago, but now raised the price to $105 (Amazon listings have also slightly gone up in price). I think $105 is what they are worth max (not the $205 price tag that Newegg says they're worth). Personally, I would get the HD598 for $160 over the SHPs for $105.
Another resource I would recommend is Zeos' review of the Sennheiser 500 lineup.
The ATH-AD lineup is also really good for gaming (I would say they have the best soundstage of the bunch, but also have the least amount of base). The 500x and the 700x are both within your range, but the 900x is ~$70 over it. From what I've read, each model is better than the last, but the 700x is the better bang for your buck
Finally, for wireless under $200, the headphone assistant on r/headphones recommends the HD 4.40BT/4.50BTNC. Both of which were on display at two of my local Bestbuys, so if your Bestbuy has them you could demo them. 4.40BT is in your price range on Amazon (not at Bestbuy), the 4.50BTNC is ~$70 over your hard limit, so probably just go with the 4.40 if you prefer them.

I'll need a mic no?
If you don't care about having a boom mic, then there is really no reason to get a "gaming headset". Music oriented headphones would absolutely be the way to go.
If you don't mind raising your budget to $200 and are alright with open back headphones than the Sennheiser HD 6XX are an incredible deal for the price:
https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx
If you really need closed back headphones, then my recommendation would be the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO:

This probably qualifies as tech help?
Hi, I'm going to be replacing my SoundTrue® around-ear headphones II Bose headphones (here) and getting DT 770 PRO 80 Ohm Over-Ear (here) soon.
I won't be replacing to upgrade but my old headphones are not usable anymore beyond a few more hours of use.
I've looking through this subreddit and decided on the DT770 and I just wanted to very clearly hear what are the differences between the headphones when I get 1st the new ones.

Does anyone have any clips I should listen to side by side to more clearly tell a difference when they get here?
Seems like fun.
Well this in fact is NOT entirely the only option since the DT 770 Pro is also an excellent choice!..

I have no idea what those sound like, sorry, but I just got a pair of beyerdynamics DT 770 Pros delivered last night and I'm digging them.
With everything you've told me I don't think you can go wrong with the DT 770s
They sound fantastic; good enough where you could do some critical listening with them if you wanted. They are the most comfortable headphones I personally own, and fit right into your budget. Also, they are mad durable. You could probably throw them to a wall and they'd be fine.
If you wanted to save a little bit of money I guess I could recommend the M40x's but honestly, especially for what you're looking for, it's pretty hard to recommend the M40x's over the DT770s.
!thanks
Because you are brilliant and I've never heard of Beyerdynamic DT-770 PRO. Thanks for the 80ohm mention too.
There are 2 versions, studio and monitor, is there any difference other than the earpad material?
Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO Studio Headphones - 80 Ohm - studio (GBP91), the grey velvet looks just a bit ugly to me.
Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO Studio Headphones - 80 Ohm - monitor (GBP114), the black leather I'm used to seeing. It's GBP 23 more expensive, is this purely based on aesthetics or also function?
Get a standalone headset and mic, much better than a traditional gaming headset. If you're looking for something priced similarly, I recommend getting some dt 770 pros, and a mic that you can find off amazon.
what ohm would you recommend 80 or 250?
Yeah I am looking at the dt770 actually just now https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI?th=1

Higher end/higher quality headphones typically require more power than what your computer's USB or audio jacks can push out. That's where a small headphone amp will come in. You don't need to get into anything crazy when it comes to the amp. What you want to look for is the resistance or ohms that the headphone has and then purchase an amp that can meet or exceed that. For example I have the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm paired with a Shiit Magni 2.
What will happen if you don't have the power to support the headphones you bought? Well I'm not an expert but I've read that it might not be good for them long term. In the short term you will find the headphones will be very quiet. You'll have to turn your sound up considerably higher than you might normally in order to get the same loudness.
alright, so I think what you might want is a pair of beyerdynamic dt 770 pros (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=twister_B07H5HM6F6?_encoding=UTF8&th=1) and a monolith liquid spark (https://www.amazon.com/Monolith-Liquid-Spark-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B07JW7NSXT)
Why not just return it?
Also, the 80 ohm version is on sale for $159 on Amazon.
Here's the amazon link. I only use mine at my PC but you could probably carry them around. They are a bit big though.
Hello, CMDR! I was considering the wireless version but it was not in stock and I didn't want to wait. I'm not a big fan of cables but in this case, I don't even regret rushing my purchase because the EDTracker just works as expected. Really great stuff.
As for the headphones, these are Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (studio) 80 Ohm. What are good headphones is a very personal, subjective thing. I like closed backs because they are isolating well from the external sounds and they provide deep, meaty sound. Comfort is also my top priority requirement because I often wear my headphones 10+ hours per day. My budget was up to £200. Previously I had couple Adio Technica, including 990 and 550. These are by far the most comfortable and best sounding headphones I've ever had. If you ever have a need/chance definitely give them a try. Here they are on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0016MNAAI/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My motherboard is an Asus Tuf Gaming x570-plus and I was wondering if I will need an amp like this one if my main use will be for gaming
Also any microphone suggestions for good sound quality? or any alternative headphone suggestions?
My budget is around $250 for the entire setup, but if an amp is necessary, I'm willing to buy the amp if it goes over my budget
It doesn't matter in Valorant as the sound engine is pretty bad and has massive issues with sound positioning.

No worries. The DT770 is pretty popular amongst musicians and recording engineers, so I am sure you'll find a distributor in India. For surround sound on PC, convolution via software is the way. For surround sound on console...I'm actually not sure what works, probably some company has a dongle that's compatible with the PS4, but I don't really keep track of console compatibility.
In general, Siege's sound model is pretty good (outside of weird vertical localization issues) IMO, but most localization is going to be the intersection of the quality of the game's sound and how well the HRTF model used by the surround emulation (or if it's native to the game just the HRTF component of the sound model in general) matches your own HRTF, which is a tad luck of the draw. Headphone quality doesn't play an especially large role here, however.
If you don't mind clipping on a Modmic, something like a Beyerdynamic DT770 would be a standard pick - it's got quite a bit of bass, and it's a pretty decent headphone all around. An additional option would be something in this newish genre of "wire-optional, active noise cancelling closed-back" that's come around lately - something like a Plantronics Backbeat Pro 2 or a JBL Everest Elite 750 - these wireless models use digital signal processing to achieve their active noise cancellation, and also include a rather robust bass boost (and otherwise correct their frequency response this way), although there is the added annoyance of requiring charging (these models never sound their best - or honestly very good - with their active noise cancellation off).
You'll be glad you did...
Assuming you don't have an amp:
Closed - DT 770 Pro 80 ohm or AKG K553
Open - Fidelio X2HR
If you have a Guitar Center near you, they should have the DT 770 and K553 for you to demo. They also have the Audio Technica M50X, but I personally didn't like them. I think they're supposed to have the X2HR too, but my local location didn't have it available.
The X2HR and K553 are very easy to drive (also detachable/replaceable cables), and you should be okay with the DT 770 Pro 80 ohm even without an amp.
Some circumaural options that might be worth considering:

I am interested If I could get images I see them at $158 on amazon here though feel free to correct me if I have the wrong ones. I am tired lol
That’s because the DVD and Blu-ray are treated as the same listing. Like for these headphones, there are 4 variants to choose from, and all the reviews are combined. If you look under the reviewers name, it says which version they are reviewing. You can filter by which model they are reviewing, the Blu-ray just came out, so no reviews.
But yes, that is the Blu-ray for ~$23. Even says so on the back.
for long periods of gaming those headphones don't look too comfortable, i would recommend something like these headphones with memory foam pads https://www.amazon.co.uk/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1519183460&sr=8-4&keywords=byerdynamic&th=1

but dont get the high impedance 250 ohm ones
Budget - anything up to 150€ (or if they are really really worth it, 200€) Source - IPhone 6, Macbook Pro 2016 Requirements for Isolation - Not really too much isolation needed, I'll mostly use them at home where it is quite silent most of the time. Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Nope. Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-Ear-Headphones Preferred tonal balance - I'd like an overall balanced headphone pair. Past headphones - Some Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, the sound wasn't bad, but they are really aging bad (broken 2 times on the handle, and so on). It was kinda nice though that you didn't really hear other people (was using those in a noisier environment). Preferred Music - Everything usually, but my preferred bands are Green Day, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park and Queen. I also like to hear hip hop from time to time. What would you like to improve on from your set-up - More detail, I always like to hear the lyrics, but I guess I'd just like them to make everything of the music clearer, like, more instrumental sound, more singing, and so on...I don't really know if this is possible though...
Additionally, I am from Austria (Europe). Thanks in advance for your help guys!

what do you guys recomment?

> A DAC/AMP recommendation would also be greatly appreciated, if it requires to fully utilize the headphones that you may recommend.
If you are hooking up directly to your desktop you won't need a DAC. For most headphones you won't need a amplifier either, especially in the <$150 range.
> I want to get myself some audiophile studio grade headphones and I have a budget of anywhere from $0-150
If you are recording anything with a mic while wearing headphones get the Beyerdynamic DT770 80 ohm. M50s are way too bass heavy and will make any mix come out sounding lean on other headphones (except perhaps Beats by Dre or Skullcandy). The DT770 is slightly V-shaped in sound, meaning the bass and treble are slightly accentuated over the mid-range, but this is pretty standard for a closed back headphone.
If you won't be recording anything through a mic while using these headphones get the Sennheiser HD579 or Sennheiser HD598. Either of these will be neutral with great comfort and detail.
The best mixing will always be done using studio monitors (typically 2 powered studio monitors) first, then tested with a nice pair of headphones, and finally a pair of Apple earbuds (if your mix sounds nice on those then they will sound fine on anything). I personally have a pair of JBL LSR305 and would highly recommend them for music listening, but would recommend the Yamaha HS5 for mixing since they are more neutral. If you decide to invest in a pair of studio monitors in the future you will need to hook them up to an audio interface, otherwise they will hiss at you. I use a Scarlett 2i2, but if you aren't using the XLR inputs for instruments/mic then any audio interface will do.
It's like 15 bucks more if you can stretch that. Price here

That model particularly. Other impedances sound different.
It depends on the price, but the Sennheiser's you talked about there are at a shitty price for you, I wouldn't take them.
My personal recommendation: Take the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohms version.
On Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-770-PRO-250-ohms/dp/B0016MNAAI?th=1
Reasons:
Speaking from experience, as that combination is my daily driver.
What do you get from all this?
(a). Independent volume control for both chat (via the mic) and in-game and audio output (via the headset). (b). No compromises: Should you prefer to repurpose this headset for professional audio production, say, in a studio, any high-powered DAC will drive it.
Note that the ESS Sabre Audio is rated to drive up to 600 Ohm headsets, so it should be able to drive anything in the market. The reason I recommend the 80 Ohm over the 250 Ohm headset is because the perceived audio quality between the two headsets is almost identical, for a much more affordable entry point.
Have fun.
Looking to possibly upgrade the mouse to Mionix Naos 7000 for the shape as I think I'd like that. I'd like the Logitech MX518 shape and I think the G502 doesn't have a big enough hump for me.
Also want to upgrade to a 2560x1440p Gsync 144Hz IPS monitor at some point.
Might look at an open set of headphones to get an even better surround sound experience with my GSX 1000.
I'm buying the Beyerdynamic dt770 pro 80 and can't decide between the regular or limited edition with black ear cups. Thoughts?

I love the DT-770 and FiiO E10k combo for music and games. If your situation allows for an open back headphone, the HD 598 is also highly recommended.
> If he is just using it for gaming, does he really need the best mic quality though?
Yes, especially so since it's not going to be used in a professional environment. In a room and placement terrible for recording, and in use in live situations by incompetent users, you need to compensate as much as possible with hardware.
Get a near field condenser microphone with a table stand, and you're at least not going to be the most hated mouth breather of your gaming friends. Someone mentioned a Blue Snowball, I don't have any experience with that model, but it sounds like an OK option. I've got an Samson C01U and a Sinn7 mPod, both in from the $70-80 range, but they're 6-7 years old now, so I'm sure there are newer models available. $50-100 on microphone and $150-300 on headphones is nothing for something lasting a decade or two if maintained and taken care of. And in that context, get a pair of entry level professional grade headphones from one standard brands and a model that focuses on repairs. An OK example is BD DT770 Pro where you can order replacement parts all over the world from service partners and replace almost any part that might break or just need replacement because of extended use. I've got a 10 year old pair I use at work, and have replaced the pads three times and several other parts as well to maintain perfect order.
Maybe something like the DT770? Over the ear and doesn't have a replicable cord, but the next recommendation will have that :)
I've heard great things about the HM5 and it seems to fit your needs.
The Beyerdynamic DT series is well regarded for their bass. See for example the 770 PRO
If you're interested have a look at this guide.
With no amp, I'd go with the DT 770 Pro 80 ohm version, now $187.61 on Amazon.ca.
I am using the DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm from Beyerdynamic. They have a slight emphasis on bass, which makes them really pleasant to listen to. The mids and highs are clear and the bass is nice and tight. They're fairly easy to drive and therefore shouldn't require a headphone amp due their relatively low impedance of only 80 Ohms. They also do a decent job of blocking any noise from outside since they're closed backed.
An alternative would be the 990 Pros, which are open backed. They are only available in 250 Ohms though and depending on your motherboard probably will require a headphone amp.
I suggest you read reviews on both of them before buy any of these.
Kingston HyperX Cloud Revolver is recommended here: http://www.pcgamer.com/the-best-gaming-headsets/
I personally use Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's
Then get a Blue Snowball or Yeti as a mic.
I live in Canada, amazon preferred for purchasing. Alot of stuff on the US amazon is not available in Canada.
Budget - $200 CDN (about $150 USD), flexible. Source - PC front audio port (onboard audio) Requirements for Isolation - Office use. I'll take what I can get. Would be nice to turn it up without others hearing it. Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - Yes for at work, but appearance isn't an issue. Preferred Type of Headphone - Full sized Preferred tonal balance - Dubstep-type music mainly. Bass is good. Past headphones - 1: Blackbox M10SE. They were decent but seriously flimsy and tin can sounding. Had a suction feeling on your ears and TOO quiet. Most 3.5mm connectors didn't fit. I didn't do much research in those days.
2: Razor Blackshark. Built like a tank. Sound could be better, but not bad. Never any ear cushions in stock, seems intentional. Headphones still working after 1 year but ear cushions are toast. Never had to readjust them.
3: Mostly $50 radioshack stuff, breaks after 3 - 4 months.
Preferred Music - Dubstep, psytrance..etc
Warning, loud. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA7iOmQ7Hj0&t=0m17s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygCaKB7Cbhc&t=0m33s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9sB6T29xkI&t=5m42s
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Mainly, something that's built well and won't break; something that isn't designed to fail. Pretty much anything would be a sound upgrade at this point. Comfort with prolonged use would be nice.
Note: I am really interested in these: beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0016MNAAI/ref=s9_simh_gw_g267_i1_r
However, they are fairly old. Technology might have improved since then. A huge price drop from the $280 makes me suspicious. Not sure if the quality went downhill recently or what? I'm open to suggestions.
Help! Comfortable Closed Back Headphone Needed.
With this is mind, a couple of candidates so far:
What would you recommend out of these 3? Any better alternatives in my price range?
If anyone can offer any advice or help, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Right now I am using some Astro A30's that I have had for a very long time.
I am going to be buying some new headphones for PC gaming and also watching movies/shows and listening to music.
I have done some reading and am 90% sold on the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm Studio Headphones
The amazon link has an amplifier bundle (+200$) and also a converter bundle (+42$)
I think I need a DAC for these cans, but need advice on which DAC to get.
Also, I wanted to get a V-Moda instead of a ModMic, is the V-Moda possible with these?
Please give me some adice. Thanks for your help.
DT770 (80 Ohm) is down to $155 on Amazon. Adding a Fiio E10K amp/dac and a modmic puts you over your $200 budget, but it should suit your needs for a while til you get bitten by the upgrade bug.
If you intend to use them with a portable device, however, you may want to opt for the 32Ohm version, as the 80's won't get very loud connected to a smartphone. Just know that the 80/250 version's velour earpads are quite a bit more comfortable, IMO, than the leatherette on the 32 version.
DT770, or if you're willing to stretch your budget a bit the Philips Fidelio X2. Both have good bass.
Just want to make sure that this will work together before I place the order:
<strong>Headphones:</strong> Beyerdynamic DT-770 80 ohm
<strong>Amp:</strong> Fiio E10K
EDIT: Formatting
I would look into the Beyerdynamic DT 770. It has lots of bass and is a step up in sound quality from the HD598 IMO, http://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-DT-770-Pro-ohm/dp/B0016MNAAI
i'd go with a good pair of headphones:
http://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-DT-770-Pro-ohm/dp/B0016MNAAI
then just be sure to double check your low end with a good spectrum analyzer. here are some free ones:
Would you mind giving some examples on what you'll listen to? I currently have the DT770 pro (80 ohm) on hand and I want to recommend them but not sure if they'd entirely suit you. (It's v-shaped)
Alternatively the Audio-Technica A900x has a large soundstage for a closed headphone and is more balanced.
I’m stuck choosing between the DT770 80 Ω (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016MNAAI?*Version*=1&*entries*=0) and AD900x (http://www.buydig.com/shop/product/ATHAD900X/Audio-Technica-ATH-AD900X-Audiophile-Open-Air-Headphones). Source will be my laptop and GS4—no AMP/DAC. But before I even consider either of these, do you think it’s worth it to upgrade from my V-Moda LPs? I’ve taken fidelity tests (128 kbps vs 320 kbps, etc) and failed them all, so I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to spend 150 dollars on a pair of cans. The reason I am considering the AD900x is because I have never tried an open pair of headphones in my life, and I’m wondering if the experience is worth it. I’m considering the DT770s because they look very comfortable, and because I like the fact that it is bass heavy. However, I won’t be able to purchase an AMP/DAC, so perhaps I won’t be able to get the most use out of the DT770s. I listen electronic music (Porter Robinson, M83), indie rock (Strange Talk, Grouplove), and classical music (Max Richter, John Field). I listen to about 50% electronic music (mostly EDM), 25% indie rock, and 25% classical music. I’ve read that the AD900x will be a lot better for indie rock and classical, but not electronic. I’ve also read that the DT770s are one of the best pair of headphones for electronic music. Another plus for the DT770 is isolation. I do travel a lot, but I always have my V-Moda’s if I choose the AD900x. About 80% of the time, I’ll be using either of these headphones in my dorm/library. The other 20% would be for travel. My dorm is not quiet at all because I have a roommate, and because I am always typing on my computer. I’m not sure how much sound leaks out of the AD900x, but I can get away with some leakage in the library if it’s not too bad. I only have money for one, but can’t decide. Any thoughts?

They'll leak enough sound to bother people close to you in libraries. I wouldn't recommend them for public listening. I use the Beyerdynamic DT770 and I enjoy them very much: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=twister_B0158ZDDLY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
If sticking to Sennheiser, the Momentum sounds excellent as well: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Momentum-Headphone-Brown/dp/B009QV15DU
One of the most popular closed-backs in this price range: http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR86
I was considering it but I chose not to. I bought the following instead:
Beyerdynamic DT 770 80ohm I paid 200 for this, it is on sale for 150 right now. best sounding most comfortable pair of headphones I have ever had.
VMODA BoomPro You would have to modify the DT 770 to have a detachable cable but it is super easy, or you can have any electronic repair place do it for you. This adds a mic and makes the headphones a superb sounding headset.
Regarding surround sound, you can pick up a used soundcard on ebay for less than fifty bucks and it will do a better job than the Logitech software. If you want wireless I suggest a Corsair Void. If you want flashing lights that you cant even see while you wear the headphones, go ahead and buy the G933. But if you want amazing sounding super comfortable and long lasting durable headphones, don't buy anything "gamer".
The Beyerdynamic DT770s are also down to £99. Worth the extra £9 for the velour pads alone.
Both are great though, you won't be disappointed with either.
You might consider the DT770 too, better sounding than the COP, more comfortable (velour pads), but a bit harder to drive (80Ohm vs 16Ohm for COP), you have to have something decent as a source, an iPhone/iPod 5 will do fine (pretty good amp in those) but anything else you might want to be sure first.
There's a 32 Ohm version of the DT770, which sounds a bit different but easier to drive, but you get leather pads instead of velour pads.
I'm running with DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm paired with Asus Xonar DG and love it.
Good mix between gaming and general music and watching movies. Really good for isolation and immersion in games.
Open pair of cans - AKG Q 701
My new monitor (LG 25UM57) and headphones (D770's) both came at the same time today, what a glorious day. Ultra wide monitors are the way forward.
EDIT These headphones seem pretty good for what I want, anyone agree?
Budget - $100 - $300
Source - For my computer where I listen to music and game, my phone would be cool too
Requirements for isolation - Some isolation, a lot would be nice but not necessary
Preferred type of headphone - Over ear, something comfortable
Preferred tonal balance - I love bass and high treble in my music
Past headphones - Currently using Razer Kraken (I know, gross)
Preferred music - Huge variety, but music like this is where I like bass and treble
My work needs good headphones for audio editing etc... but I would swear by these for everything now, gaming or otherwise.
(Apologies for UK site, should be easy to find on US amazon)
I'm sick to death of gaming headphone brands adding stuff to the sound like "super bass mode" etc... Not sure how you would make them compatible with 360.
Could easily get one of these to mini-jack - http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31uI52RtxbL._SX300_.jpg
Or check out /r/headphones if you want proper headphones instead of gaming brand stuff
Budget - $200 USD
Source - Macbook Air / Possibly Android phone (Droid Razr M)
Requirements for Isolation - Good isolation is preferred but not essential. A little leakage is fine.
Preferred Type of Headphone - I've already narrowed this down to two headphones. See below
Preferred tonal balance - Good bass but not too overpowered
Preferred Music - Hip hop, electronic, jazz
Location - USA
I've already narrowed this down to two headphones:
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (80 Ohm)
I'm stuck because I would prefer the bassy sound from the DT 770s, but don't have enough money to also buy an amp (if I can plug these into my Macbook Air and/or Android phone without an amp, please let me know). The M50x wouldn't give me the bassy sound, but I know for sure it doesn't need an amp (also the choice of cables is nice - but not essential)
Any advice would be really appreciated!
Edit: I found a deal for the DT 770s that's less than $200 so the budget for those headphones alone is not an issue (unless I needed an amp)
Thanks! I've been looking at Beyerdynamic as advised by another redditor yesterday. Any idea on the difference between this one and the one you recommend?
I've produced a few tracks with them and I love them.
I also use them on CS and BF4 too... Because why the fuck not?
Here's the EP I produced with them. I also mixed and mastered the tracks with them!
These ship to NZ. how're these? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyerdynamic-DT770-PRO-Headset-OHM-Noir/dp/B0016MNAAI How do they compare to the 598's and the M50X's?
Also these were on the page. great combo. The mic seems alright http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-ZM-MIC1-ZMMIC1-Lapel-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ/ref=pd_bxgy_ce_text_y/278-7547421-1922404
Edit: Also the OHM's seems really high. Would I need an amp?(I'm a noob)
Edit: Could I please get some more comments on this? I'm currently pretty much decided on the K550's but I don't really wanna drop $330 off of one recommendation if one of these is a better option.
So I was on here yesterday and I have narrowed it down to 4 pairs of headphones. Need some help deciding.
AKG K550 $330 NZD
DT 770 80ohm $234 NZD
M50X $229 NZD Can also pick these up in person.
ATH A900X $280NZD or Price 2 $315 overnight shipping from in-country seller
Also if you have any alternatives along these lines feel free to post them.
I have DT 770 studio headphones ;) Brings good quality sound to a whole other level. At night time in bed I just use some cheap earbuds.
I'll raise you Beyer 770 Pro's. BAM! :D
headfi is a FANTASTIC site. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/
After my sennheisers broke down a a year ago, I needed to get new phones. I browsed many different places and then found head-fi. The people there know what they're talking about, and they have TONS of threads resolving these very issues.
I ended up with Beyer 770s, http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-Pro-80-Closed-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=pd_cp_e_3,
but I bought it used for 110$. The headphones are amazing, and I finally realized what solid bass sounds like. I'm primarily an alt-indie guy, but I do like some rap...and these phones were perfect. I decided after browsing the head-fi's archives.
Head-fi does have some people that have tons of gear, and it will make you envious of some of the higher-levelled phones. My best advice is to spend the 150$ after you've contemplated the various brands, and checked out their buy-trade section. You can get really good deals on minutely used gear(like I did)...basically getting a 200$ phone for 30-40% off.
Seriously, don't just make a rash decision based on posts in this thread, though many people's suggestions sound reasonable. Check around, and look for a good deal.
Get this:
https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI
Best closed headphones you can get that can do it all at that price.
If you are treble senstive then do not get them.
I used Logitech G35 which were 7.1 surround sound after they broke I got Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 you can tell the difference. I am using a usb sound card but the sound is a lot better then the G35's. I am not going to a gaming headset anytime in the near future.
A DAC/AMP might help and it will increase the number of potential upgrades in the future by opening up the possibility of owning higher impedance headphones, but the improvement probably won't be as large as buying a new set of headphones. Despite what some here will say, not all gaming headsets are bad, they just tend to be overpriced for what they offer.
The M50x is probably not good for gaming. It has a very compact soundstage and I think you'd find it's pretty unpopular around here. (though there are some who still like it) If you're interested in a closed-back headphone for gaming in that price range, look at the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (80 ohm) - though you'd probably want an amp to get the most out of that too.
If you are interested in buying new, consider the DT770s: https://www.amazon.ca/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1525683281&sr=1-1&keywords=dt770
Highly regarded within the audiophile community.
