Hmm, any thoughts about these headphones instead?
Edit: Also, does it make sense to get a sound card? I was just reading a review saying they recommend getting one to use with higher end headphones.

OK I didn't get that, thought you didn't mind them being open.
Those would be a good option: http://www.amazon.ca/Beyerdynamic-Premium-Digital-Headset-Microphone/dp/B001BYMZ5W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454623677&sr=8-1&keywords=beyerdynamic+300

If price is no object -- and I mean really no object -- the Beyerdynamics MMX 300 (I got it cheaper than that, but can't find a better link) is absolutely the lightest, most incredibly comfortable and best-sounding headset I have ever had experience with. It's really top-of-the-line in every way. Condenser mic, excellent sound isolation, comfortable velour earpads that literally do not feel like you're even wearing anything. Mic swivels easily out of the way when you don't need it. I often wear these all day to listen to music. I have a pair of Etymotic ER-4S in-ear headphones and these are easily on par with those both for sound quality and isolation, and they are even more comfortable.
I had just about sworn off on poor quality mid-range headsets before this. My previous set was Steelseries' top of the line and I found them cheaply made, poor sound, awful mic and relatively uncomfortable to wear.
I use an MMX 300.
If you like your Beyerdynamics's sound signature, check out the Beyerdynamic MMX300 which is a headset of theirs based upon the DT880 or the 990 I believe.
When I was a kid, I used to buy cheap $50 headsets. Then I grew up and got the Beyerdynamic MX300 (also branded as QPAD QH-1339):

The speakers are the same as the Beyerdynamic DT-770, and you get a good condenser microphone to boot. (Condenser microphones differ from the cheap dynamic mics.)
(Note: QPAD is Beyerdynamic's "gamer" brand.)
