There’s actually this shampoo I’ve heard of with natural ingredients known to block DHT. It’s called PURA D'OR Original Gold Label Anti-Thinning Biotin Shampoo. I haven’t tried it yet but it has a lot of positive reviews on Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FH692PQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A23IQE0YUV800G&psc=1
You could try a sulfate free ketoconazole shampoo. It should be significantly less drying than nizoral. Regenpure offers one sold on amazon that I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0032FSDOA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hi all !
Feels great that I’m not alone but sucks that we’re in the same boat. I’m a 22M that has notice my hair is slowly but surely thinning out. I’ve always had a “fine” hair type but it’s never been like this. My parents are convinced that I’m fine and I have nothing to worry about but the other side they have full heads of hair, kinda.
So what I started doing was taking multivitamins, biotin, and a caffeinated shampoo I had bought from amazon. (shampoo ) to see if my hair would improve. Hoping that it would, it didn’t, my hair remained the same and my finger nails grew stronger. So I cut off the shampoo and went to Walmart and picked up some Thick and strong Dove for Men shampoo. Still nothing. No change.
So now I’m convinced I need more knowledge about my current hair status thus the big question
Am I balding ?
(Off track) I wore hats for an entire year straight, and at the end of each day my head would be tender each time I showered.
Update #1 March 21st 2019
I visited my doctor he examined my head and after a few minutes he informed me it was male pattern baldness. I was in denial and request for a blood test to check if my current diet had to do with any of it. I was prescribed finasteride, about 3 months worth, and suggested to use minoxidil simultaneously with it for better results. I am currently looking for a dht blocking shampoo to stop hair from falling out. So far minoxidil sounds like a pain in the ass to keep in your hair for 1-4 hours for a full effect.
Brief:
Although not common Ashwagandha works a lot like a testosterone supplement, and raises DHT, it's not causing your hair loss but it's accelerating it, as you almost certainly inherited it. Find a shampoo that reduces DHT as you will need it anyway.

An ftm youtuber recommends this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PP435CW?ref=emc_p_m_9_mob_b
I haven’t tried it yet.
When using minoxidil, the hair will fall out if you stop before it’s terminal hair. I’ve heard a year but idk.
One of the only actually scientifically proven uses of essential oil is using rosemary essential oil (in a carrier oil!) on the scalp to regrow hair. Dr. Gary Linkov on YouTube talks about it in a video but I can’t remember which one. He’s completely bald but he has alopecia areata, not androgenic alopecia, which is what mostly causes hair loss, including that which happens on T.
Rosemary essential oil works by increasing blood circulation but has also been found to inhibit dht so it will help your head hair but will not help with facial or body hair. Minoxidil does work for facial hair. Always patch test for reactions.
Minoxidil is not safe for pets.
Finasteride is an oral dht blocker so it could help, but dht is also what gives us body and facial hair and lower growth, (Maybe some other changes, but not all of them.) so it depends on what you prioritize.
yes. 2% is by prescription only (in the US). I put a few drop of rosemary essential oil in my shampoo bottle. when I finish my bottle I'm probably going to switch to another brand https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MRKJHR6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_8?smid=A1RMA0NEBIG0WB&psc=1
So I started using ketocanazole shampoo about 4 months before fin. In my experience I dont think it did anything to stop my hairloss, ,but I will say that it makes my hairs health a bit and most importantly for my hairloss it made it look much alive, fuller and thicker. I am still taking ketocanazole shampoo because it makes it lookk fuller and thicker. Here is the link if you are interested in buying the one I use I recommend it.
REGENEPURE, DR Shampoo Hair and Scalp Treatment, Cleanses and Supports Hair Growth, 8 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0032FSDOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_B48GAM6W3499J94J88FF

I personally use this one^^^ I highly recommend it it is a ketocanazole shampoo as well, but leaves your hair looking fuller And thicker. Been using it for 7 months Im in love with this shampoo
My husband uses Ultrax Labs Store shampoo from Amazon. He was losing hair before but this kinda really stopped the hair shedding process. It’s expensive but it works great for him. amazon link here
You can try Everything I described just know that Finasteride is the main key factor.
I personally use shampoo everyday because I work out a lot and my scalp is very greasy it all depends on your scalp. I dont think washing your scalp everyday creates problem man especially if you work out or anything make sure you shampoo 3 times a week at least.
I would recommend if you are going to try finasteride to try it now because know that mpb is a time thing the sooner you start the better.
This is the shampoo i use which i love . Is a ketocanazole shampoo which helps to makenyour hair look thicker and it feels nice.
REGENEPURE, DR Shampoo Hair and Scalp Treatment, Cleanses and Supports Hair Growth, 8 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0032FSDOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3JM9AB9PEZR4JJ3H1S38
Is pricey but dor my hair ill do anything
Its upsetting. I take hair/skin/nails supplements and I KNOW they're working because my leg, armpit, eyebrow, and mustache (ah the joys of being an Italian Jew) grow SO FUCKING fast and thick, but the hair on my head doesn't. I hate brushing my hair because of the amount that just comes out. But I DO see new growth and I use a biotin shampoo and conditioner that I think helps a lot.
I understand where you are coming from you are young, but it also doesnt look bad at all you have slight recession, but yes if you want to keep your hair you have to take action and go see your doctor.
I would suggest for you to start with ketoconozole shampoo. This is the one I use but is really good for your hair. Wash your scalp throughly and leave for 10-15 mins. This is the minimal you can do and it has no sides.
REGENEPURE, DR Shampoo Hair and Scalp Treatment, Cleanses and Supports Hair Growth, 8 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0032FSDOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_19QJ97WS0CWS1VR0CB7E
Never seen the first one you linked, may have to consider it since I am vegan.
OP, here is one I've come across as well, Hair Restoration Laboratories' Professional Strength DHT-Blocking Hair Restore Shampoo
I’m in the same boat as you, 18 and I just noticed some thinning on my right side, most of my relatives and close family have extreme MPB and I am paranoid, but it also gives me an edge up on them because none of them knew anything about hair loss regime, so I’m starting now to hopefully keep my hair a little longer. I am going to start out slow with a Ketoconazole shampoo, specially this one: REGENEPURE, DR Shampoo Hair and Scalp Treatment, Cleanses and Supports Hair Growth, 8 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0032FSDOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2PRBSXHSHYRHAD54VD43?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
So I am going to start off slow and as time progresses and I notice more hair loss, I plan to take it to the next step with the other 2 out of the “big three”. But I think for the most part we will be fine, we are so young to be getting on top of this. Way ahead of the game brother
Hi folks! My hair has been thinning pretty dramatically over the past two years. I went to a doctor and started taking some prescribed medication. Also, I've changed out my shampoo to this one. I've seen some pretty significant improvements over the past few months which has me ecstatic. However, my hair gets very oily, very quickly. I have to use the shampoo daily or it looks like my hair is wet. I'm considering swapping out my shampoo, but I don't want to mess with results. Any recommendations for thinning hair that does a better job of cleaning?
Aside from addressing the issues you mentioned, you may want to get a script for Finasteride from your doctor. It helps with hair loss. Also, there is a hair thinking shampoo on Amazon that is highly recommended.
Start using Regenepure every other day or so: https://www.amazon.com/REGENEPURE-Shampoo-Treatment-Supports-Growth/dp/B0032FSDOA
Yes it's definitely seborrheic dermatitis. Avoid scratching your head too much.
Here you can find a good article on the research published around rosemary oil. Maybe it helped me with the growth maybe not, my situation is not bad enough to assess whether it is really effective with naked eye. However if researchers found that it works, I would not be too skeptical about it. You can definitely do a mixture of oils and try to capitalize on the compound effects. I added rosemary oil to my ketoconazole shampoos and also to other shampoos when I don't want to use a keto one.
This shampoo is probably the best one for hair loss, there is basically everything non farmacological that is good for growth and also include ketoconazole. If you really want to avoid minoxidil you may even try to add a laser helmet therapy, which has shown again to stimulate growth.
Don't expect enormous results with these things, but it could work well for you.
Puradora is an all natural anti hairloss shampoo- it changed my world!! I mostly use JR Liggett's. It's bar based which I like because it's easy and I can have a bar in my gym bag and use it for both shampoo and body soap.
https://jrliggett.com/shop/bar-shampoo/hair-shampoo-bars/original-formula-shampoo-bar/
The liquid one I have at home is this one, geared towards being mostly natural and to help hairloss. Has pretty much every go-to ingredient to help hairloss.
Conditioners are a scam more than anything, when you aren't using a detergent to literally strip the life out of your hair, they're really not needed.
From Hair Restoration Laboratories, like this one
Reviews on it are pretty good. I have not tried it yet, waiting to finish my current keto shampoo then buying this one.
I’ve tried a bunch. This one has become my go to. If you search for DHT blocking shampoo online or Amazon you’ll see there are tons of choices in all price ranges.

I always do a fakespot check for amazon reviews. It is coming up as C. Too many fake reviews in amazon not just for this product but many skincare and cosmetics are rife with fake reviews.
Link to fakespot for this product
Hey man was worried about this aswell so I picked this up from amazon really helped

Thank you so much. I am already on Finasteride and am just trying to find out any tricks I can and avoid surgeries. I found a shampoo that isn't crazy expensive and am going to give it a shot, here's a link for anyone else who might be having the same issue. Please know, I haven't used it yet, so please don't take this as an out and out endorsement of the product.

Thank you so much for sharing your advice!
I don’t know anything about Davines. Another person posted about this product as well. I think it’s mostly sold in. stores in the UK or other overseas countries. I have never seen it in stores in the USA (well, at least not in the Houston area). I am not familiar with the supplements either. Another person mentioned this brand (you can buy from Amazon). I’m going to check it out. Best of luck to you. Go see a dermatologist for sure. Don’t tackle this alone.
And, this one.
I’m using this stuff - PURA D'OR Original Gold Label Anti-Thinning Shampoo. I also have the conditioner. It has great reviews on Amazon but I haven’t been using it long enough to know if it works for me.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FH692PQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_n52uEb680Z2ZV
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0032FSDOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_12dhnbsCsZf4V I’ve had pretty moderate dandruff since before I even knew I had hair issues, but I tried this consistently awhile back(January or so?) and it did a good job of getting rid of it. Its back now cus I ran out and $25 is a lot for shampoo lol. I don’t know the science behind this, though—I’m 19 and dumb and if it says it’s good I’ll put it on my head.
Trick for me was to make sure it got on my scalp and then leave it there for a hot minute or so
get the original gold label one

I use this product: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B016XB280Y and although it took awhile it did regrow some of my hair back. What is strange is I was thinning at the front of my hair line on both sides and it only regrew on one side, but I will take what I can get. It also seemed to help with my bald spot in the back. Don't expect miracles but it did regrow some of my hair back. I use it about 3 times a week. The stuff also lasts a long time. I bought it over a year ago and still have half a bottle left and this is with my kids using it for awhile thinking it was regular shampoo. Oh yeah, only use it where you want to regrow hair, which for me is the top and front of my head. At first I was using it on all of my hair and the hair that is not receding started growing a lot faster so I now use regular shampoo for that.
I haven't tried it, but this stuff is getting great reviews. Might be worth a shot if you've got the funds? https://www.amazon.com/Ultrax-Labs-Caffeine-Stimulating-Shampoo/dp/B007SZCG0C/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8#customerReviews
I see a lot of support for Nizoral shampoo which has 1% Ketoconazole, which helps to block DHT. I find anti-dandruff shampoos really harsh. Does anyone have an experience with anything else on the hair-loss-prevention-shampoo front?
Example linked here, also contains 1% ketoconazole:
L'emarie Intensive Hair Growth and Hair Loss Shampoo, W/ 1% Ketoconazole Biotin, DHT Blocking
I'm a guy with curly hair, god damn would I kill for your hair thickness. Mine's started to thin a little, so I use this a couple times a week, more if I have a full bottle, and then condition like twice a week with some decent stuff from the store. So I comb mine and press it down sometimes with pomade if I have to look presentable, otherwise it just curls in every direction and my head looks ridiculous.
Anyway what i'm getting at is, what is your hair normally like when you don't dry it that crazy way? Also how hard was it with hair your length, do you just essentially tie a towel around your head?
LET THE SHAMPOO SIT ON FOR 5+ MINUTES OTHERWISE YOU WON'T GET RESULTS
I saw results with nizoral, but it dries my hair. So far my favorite has been regenepure dr which is pricey but worth it. It's very nourishing to my hair and has 2% ketoconazole. I follow up with trader joe's tea tree tingle conditioner or Shea Moisture's grow strong conditioner. Sometimes I will do "pre-poo" where I put on coconut oil all over and let it soak for 30 minutes - overnight. Then I'll do one pass with conditioner, wash it out, then shampoo and let it sit for 5+ minutes, as long as possible, then conditioner again.
CAme off birth control Jan '16 and within a few months started noticing a ton of hair loss (along with terrible acne). The acne I got under control with a better washing routine + curology, though it's gone to hell again now that I started Letrozole.
For hair, I started using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FH692PQ/ref=sr_ph_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1486788603&sr=sr-1&keywords=hair+loss - I dont know if it was the cause, but I started to sprout a whole lot more hair at my temples adn it seemed to curb it for a while. I can't say it was for sure the shampoo, but I don't think it's hurt!
I've been using Pura D'or for about a year and a half:
https://www.amazon.com/PURA-DOR-Anti-Hair-Premium-Organic/dp/B00FH692PQ?th=1
There's a lot of products out there that exploit the vulnerability of those who are losing hair and I'm fully aware of that. I'm not really convinced that anything outside of finasteride and minoxidil will really do anything in regards to male pattern baldness.
Pura d'or does have ketoconazole and claims to have 14 other natural DHT blockers.......probably bull shit. I'm curious what makes nizoral better?
Nizoral isn't even advertised as a hair loss product so it confuses me why people on this board are such huge proponents of it.
The only thing that works for a long term for me is the L'emarie Shampoo https://www.amazon.com/Lemarie-Intensive-Growth-Shampoo-Ounce/dp/B00C01C43S/ref=sr_1_104_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1483708715&sr=1-104&keywords=dandruff+shampoo.
Not only for keeping your scalp clean of dandruff but for a healthy scalp and hair. This shampoo has 1% Ketoconazole and in top of that it has other ingredients that are well know to help with scalp problems like Pyrithione Zinc, Caffeine , Salicylic Acid , Allatoin and a bunch of essential oils and extracts. It also has one ingredient that is new to the market call Pisum Sativum (Pea) Peptide. this one ingredient helps with keeping your hair growing healthy.
I'll give the coconut oil a shot for at least a month or so. I mean my hair on top isn't super long, I feel like the scalp won't be super visible once it grows a bit longer. And I tried to find Minoxidil on Amazon.ca, and the closest thing is a shampoo with really good reviews, in regards to such a problem:
https://www.amazon.com/Regenepure-Shampoo-Treatment-Supports-Growth/dp/B0032FSDOA
I think that's a better (less harsh/drying) ketoconazole shampoo than Nizoral. I use it every other day as well as Minox twice a day and don't have any issues. I also use the Regenepure Nourishing Treatment Shampoo (https://www.amazon.com/Regenepure-Nourishing-Treatment-Thickening-Strengthening/dp/B0032FQSZG/) which helps hair from being dried out, and also has ingredients that are more gentle on hair/scalp than typical shampoos.
beta sitosterol, biotin, and MSM. MSM makes my hair and nails grow like crazy, but not sure if it helps with hair loss or growing new hair. I just have to cut my hair and nails way more often. The keto shampoo seems to help, too, I use this one.
I take one biotin pill 10,000mcg every day and I wash my hair with hair surge by ultralax labs at least 5 times a week. If you're interested in the shampoo I bought here's a link on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Ultrax-Caffeine-Growth-Stimulating-Shampoo/dp/B007SZCG0C
Thanks for the reply. This is the one I was referring to. It definitely claims to have Keto but no indication of what percentage. I see that Nizoral says it is 1% Keto. I was also taking a 10,000 mg biotin supplement but then came across this which claims to have natural ingredients that reduce DHT. Just so much stuff out there. Most of which are probably scams.
This is my shampoo BTW: http://www.amazon.com/Regenepure-Doctor-Recommended-Shampoo-Treatment/dp/B0032FSDOA
Nizoral will work too (the ketoconazole is what you're after), but this stuff is sulfate-free and doesn't have a terrible chemical smell. DHT blockers won't make as much of a difference once T gets knocked clear down to female normal, but I'll stick with this stuff anyway cause it's also great for dandruff. It's a little pricey, but my current bottle has lasted 3 months and is still about 1/4 full (shampooing every other day right now, with more growth I'll use more but eventually just twice a week - not really effective for hair growth at that point but enough to get the anti-dandruff effect).
I'm no expert but here is what I know:
If the hairs are thinning at the hairline, then it is recession due MOSTLY to DHT. If the hair at the hairline is thick, much like the hair on the sides of your head, then it is most likely a mature hairline. By the pictures, the hairs on your hairline don't seem all too thick, so it is most likely recession.
Best thing you can do is do research about Fin and decide if you want to take it. If not, purchase some Anti-DHT shampoo: http://www.amazon.com/Pura-dor-Premium-Organic-Anti-Hair/dp/B00FH692PQ/ref=pd_sim_194_2/179-7427163-2370859?ie=UTF8&dpID=416SkaCW-ZL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1W9EEYEG5TJK2N5RQEKG
And comb your hair a lot to make sure there is good blood flow (maybe even use oils such as olive when you comb your hair) and eat a good diet sufficient with the proper nutrients to keep hair healthy.
Let's just say I made this username for a reason.
I believe my hair loss was related to Creatine, though I cannot confirm this. I cannot recall all the noots I was taking at the time, though the only other one I remember being on that you mentioned was maybe ALCAR. After several weeks of daily Creatine use, I noticed abnormal amounts of hair in my fingers after running my hand through it. Like, a lot a lot.
I stopped taking Creatine, and started using Regenepure DR ( http://www.amazon.com/Regenepure-Doctor-Recommended-Shampoo-Treatment/dp/B0032FSDOA ). This product contains ketoconazole which is clinically proven to reverse hair loss. You can do your own research on it.
I can report after several months of daily use I no longer lose hair when I run my fingers through it. I did get some dry hair from DR so I added Regenepure's nourishing treatment and their moisturizer and I'm finally happy with my hair again (both of these are on amazon as well, though buying all 3 is not cheap, I cannot recommend them enough). The last 2 products mentioned do not actually help with hair loss or regrowing hair, however they do help with making hair appear thicker and more "alive". I cannot confirm hair regrowth yet, even with DR, but I 100% stopped losing as much as I had been. I can run my fingers through my hair and most of the time, no hairs fall out.
When/if you use these products, I would use the DR first, rinse, then NT, rinse, then moisturizer, rinse, and make sure to leave each on your scalp for several minutes before rinsing. It added a lot of time to my shower routine but it is well worth it. I do this every day possible.
I hope this helps, and good luck.
Disclaimer: I'm no doctor. YMMV. I, personally, decided to try this before anything more harsh (ie rogaine/fin) and so far, no regrets, but everyone is different. I'm male and young 20s with a possible genetic predisposition for hair loss, for reference.
