I've had good luck stringing-up bird scare tape. It's basically a long strip of sparkly Mylar. Only downside is it's kinda "crinkly" noisy in the wind. I got the idea after I saw it being used around vineyards in California.

I mostly solved this problem using "bird scare" tape. It's basically a strip of mylar streamer that I tied around the coax cable that runs from the street to the house (over my cars). I got the idea when I was visiting a vineyard in California where they were using it and asked what it was.
The only downside is it's a bit rigid so it makes a crinkly noise in the wind. I suppose you could attach it to something rigid that flops around in the wind to eliminate the noise.
It has worked great for me for several years though earlier this spring I had a very smart (or mentally defective) robin that ignored it for a few weeks and pooped on my car anyway.
