Hey, that's my saw! Too funny. Just make sure it is straight and true. It worked great for my D-BOT. Just be ready for tiny aluminum shavings to go flying all over the place.
Use a machinest square to check the saw, something like this - https://www.amazon.com/BL-123-Precision-Steel-1-2-3-Blocks/dp/B00092CJC6/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1497885240&sr=8-6&keywords=machinist+square.
I kinda fancy these 1-2-3 blocks as a pen stand, if only they made th holes wider.
I would recommend buying these. They are quite affordable, and you can use them for several different tasks. You can use two of them to stand materials on end for walls( hug the wall with two blocks), and you can also use their weight to glue two sheets together to build up wall or roof thickness.
These 1×2×3 blocks are surprisingly useful.
I found out about them from a Stumpy Nubs video, and they are really useful.
Only downside, they get flash rust pretty quickly from handling, so I hit them with some oil on a regular basis.
Have you considered using 123 Blocks?
This one costs $22 and claims accuracy and squareness on all sides within .0001"-.0002" (2.5-5.0 microns)

I'm unsure how to get past the problem of calculating the thickness of your spray, but it should get you in the ballpark.
Try some of these... https://www.amazon.com/BL-123-Precision-Steel-1-2-3-Blocks/dp/B00092CJC6

Thanks! I'm hoping it can help people looking to make stands for relatively cheap. As others have posted, a more opaque black may blend better, but this still works well for my needs. Plus I like to see what's below the stand anyways.
Also, I'll possibly post a quick tutorial on the houses I made up the other night for my city combat. https://imgur.com/a/5qYM6 They're pretty much made out of foam core and hot glue. :P I think it must come out to maybe $0.75 a house. The flat roofs are nice, as you can describe them as a steepled roof, but it gives you a place to set a mini. The multi-level buildings can be split and pulled apart.
I got the foam core at amazon, and I use 3-2-1 blocks for aligning the walls when gluing. The only thing I'm not sure about is how long they will hold up. My main concern is moisture and warping, as I do not have a bottom piece on the buildings (only a roof).

Should be an interesting session tomorrow. Largest battle yet! The large group on the main road are civilians, the invaders are coming down the streets. The party has defend the civilians as they retreat to the castle (not pictured) on the right of the map. I still have to set a few more tokens on the map (including the PC's and some of their allies), but it should be quite a bit of fun assuming I can keep combat flowing well (Oh, and that minitaur is actually a giant ape... polymorph is a powerful spell)!
1-2-3 blocks. Super handy http://www.amazon.com/BL-123-Precision-Steel-1-2-3-Blocks/dp/B00092CJC6
