I have several problems with my neck and acid reflux when sleeping so getting a good pillow is a fucking chore. A lot of the neck pillows aren't hard enough and I still have the issue of reflux.
I finally got this about 4 days ago and I've never slept so fucking good. I honestly forgot what good sleep feels like before acid-reflux and vertebrae issues
Yes it was WAY WAY outside the budget I'd like for a pillow but honestly the last 3 nights have been amazing.
I use a toddler bumper pillow for the same back support as you and I also have used a finger to unlatch my LO to give the boobies a rest. Now, at 12 months, she unlatches herself and rolls away to sleep, then comes back later to nurse. I also have a few knee pillows that help the hips tremendously. They still hurt, but sometimes I can barely lift a leg to dress myself without them. This one is a bit stiffer and holds the knees more aligned, but doesn’t have the strap. You could absolutely safety pin one on, I just haven’t yet.
Yes! Absolute life (butt?) saver for my experience. Would recommend a foam one not an inflatable. https://www.amazon.com/Donut-Pillow-Orthopedic-Hemorrhoid-Pregnancy/dp/B07MXNFBMK/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=donut+pad&qid=1598068208&sr=8-5
I purchased this one from amazon. I got mine removed last week. I’ve been using it every day around the house and in my car and it works well.

if you have a lot of extra money and fast shipping i seriously recommend a fancy wedge pillow (like this one). currently the only thing letting me get a decent night's sleep
if you have a LITTLE extra money and fast shipping this specific neck pillow is really excellent for sleeping upright because it supports your chin, it got me through my first week post-surgery. wiggle it around until your head is minimally flopped over
honestly my best rec is just – overdo it on the pillows as much as you possibly can. sit up propped against a ton of pillows in bed and have somebody wall you in on either side with more pillows so your arms have a place to rest. if you have a couch with a lounger it's worth trying to set up there and steal the back cushions from the rest for your mighty pillow fortress. sometimes i've ended up basically sleeping kneeling because it distributes the weight away from my sad sore ass.
godspeed my friend
I liked this one. My husband makes fun of it but I always see him using it when I get home 🤣
Thank you!! It's not easy, but it's worth it! Here's the pillow I have, in case you were curious: https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/gp/product/B07995B8L1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I love it and it's good quality :)
I hate the pregnancy pillow- this type of pillow helped me prevent the kind of pain you describe: Everlasting Comfort Memory Foam Knee Pillow with Adjustable and Removable Leg Strap, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07995B8L1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_V8NWMAYHCQRZSAG3NFQC
I also tried to do stretches like these with some success: https://www.healthline.com/health/pregnancy/sciatica-pain-stretches
Thanks for joining the conservative forum. Heres a link to a doughnut so you can begin the healing process. We know being a liberal for that long hurts.
I recommend this pillow.
A Bed wedge is another option and can be positioned several ways.
Try a hemorrhoid pillow.

Another interesting pillow
When I got mine removed the surgeon left my wound open to scar from the inside out. Stuffing 4x4 gauze into my gapping wound was the fuckin worse.. removing it was fucked too. Wondering why you got closed up.
I thought they didn't close it up so that it doesn't return. Maybe that was old school.
Go buy yourself a foam donut made for people with hemorrhoids to sit in the car and chairs with..
Something like this
Good luck 🤞
Hey so I would suggest getting this. It’s a life saver and I still use it for reading in bed. It will help ensure you’re sleeping upright and ensure that you are comfortable. https://www.amazon.com/Lunix-Orthopedic-Comfortable-Adjustable-Sleeping/dp/B07ZP6SJDQ
I'm also a side sleeper. I wake up every few hours to pee or something, and switch sides, so I'm no always sleeping on one side. I also got a pillow for my knees I can't live without.
I was gifted a knee pillow my first pregnancy and use it frequently. My pregnancy pillow takes up too much room in our bed so I usually opt for hugging a regular pillow and putting the knee pillow between my legs. Could be a nice little gift to yourself.
I recommend going to a chiropractor to get properly adjusted. Also, before you go to bed at night, spend ten minutes doing neck stretches. You can look up neck stretches on YouTube and find some to do. That in itself will help tremendously.
As far as learning to sleep on your back, start off going to sleep that way and every time you wake up, make sure you are on your back.
You could try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees to align your hips and back. That might help as well. A pillow like this. https://www.amazon.com/Orthopedic-Pillow-Sciatica-Relief-Pregnancy/dp/B07RYNX8B3/
There is a difference for me. I notice I breath much better when I’m laying on my right side. And I usually just put my hands laying palms-up down by my knees. You need to make sure your head and neck are fully supported and parallel to your body so it’s not above or below the rest of your body. I have a very thin pillow beneath my Wamsutta down pillow to give it some support. The pillow between the knees is key too.
Also, a molded side sleeper pillow like this one is great to cradle your cast/splint while bed bound.
Contoured memory foam. It is literally the only pillow I can sleep on, and I have to replace it every 3 years or so because they do get worn out.
I got these two pillows to go between my legs and behind my back, and found that they were much more comfortable than using regular pillows. I also feel less nervous about having them near baby.
Everlasting Comfort Knee Pillow for Sleeping - Prevents Knee Clashing - Hip, Lower Back, Leg, and Sciatic Nerve Pain Relief Pillows for Side Sleepers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07995B8L1/
Everlasting Comfort Bolster Pillow for Legs and Back - Pure Memory Foam Half Moon Sleeping Pillow https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NPTXTFV/
An alternative is to use a big C shaped pregnancy pillow behind your back and tuck it between your knees, but I needed something that held my legs just a bit further apart.
I'm glad to hear that this type of pillow/wedges is helpful. I just got this gem in the mail today and am currently test driving it/loving it! Hope it proves helpful post-ACDF in a week.
Note: yes, it was spendy. Spouse and I each have low back issues as well so I'm sure we'll appreciate using it long after my recovery.
You can get a padded donut for sitting down. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Ergonomic-Innovations-Donut-Pillow-Hemorrhoids/dp/B01LSR1FD4
Around the house, you might have a travel neck pillow (horseshoe style) or a water float ring? You might be able to fashion something supportive out of rice-filled socks.
I use 5 pillows as a side sleeper. I'd use 6 if I didn't have an adjustable bed (I adjust the head of the bed up like 10-15 degrees).
One under my head, one for my right forearm to rest on so my elbow isn't in a weird position, one between my left arm and my body, one of these weird pillows between my knees, and another regular pillow between my feet.

Everlasting Comfort Knee Pillow for Sleeping - Prevents Knee Clashing - Hip, Lower Back, Leg, and Sciatic Nerve Pain Relief Pillows for Side Sleepers
I didn’t get on with using the huge u shaped body pillow, so I used a knee orthopaedic pillow which really helped side sleeping on my back and hips positioning https://www.amazon.ca/Everlasting-Comfort-Memory-Adjustable-Removable/dp/B07995B8L1/ref=asc_df_B07995B8L1/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312730485250&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12505179094913975997&hvpone=&hvptwo...
Given I’m only 15 ish weeks along … but I’m a hot sleeper so I have not even attempted a pregnancy pillow .. I use one of these

So easy to roll with and get out of bed to pee with less to fuss with .. maybe it would be better for you . It attaches to leg too
For sure. Here is an example. Lots come with adjustable lift depending on size. Key is to have your spine straight in both directions when you sleep. This pillow helps tremendously with my sleep posture.

I'm a side sleeper and I really love this one. UTTU Sandwich Pillow, Adjustable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079FK5QKD?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It has a sort of groove to decrease the pressure on your jaw and ear. I can tell if I travel and accidentally forget my pillow that I'm more likely to have symptoms.
I think best case scenario for TMJD sufferers is back sleeping, but if you're like me and inevitability roll to your side, having a good pillow helps.
I took off four days for zero depth. Surgery on a Monday, and teleworked from my hospital bed on Friday. Still teleworking from bed. If I had to go to an office and sit all day, I'd've probably needed a month, because sitting is surprisingly rough.
Get a donut pillow. Bring it to the hospital with you. I got this one, and it's worked like a champ. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KF9P5FZ
I am also a side sleeper with TMJ, and the same issues were occurring to me. I shopped around and found this pillow that has been very helpful to me: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079FK5QKD?ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details&th=1
It allows your head to rest comfortably while supporting your cervical spine and shoulders. Shop around, see what you think though. Good luck!
a donut pillow could do the trick!

My bf at the the time walked into CVS and asked the guy where to find ass donuts and the guy said “wrong kind of store man”.
This is an ass donut.
I had this one!

It helped my SPD and is very compact
I have no room for any additional furniture in my home. I got this https://www.amazon.com/Lunix-Orthopedic-Comfortable-Adjustable-Sleeping/dp/B07ZP6SJDQ
My brother purchased it for me and had it sent to my house.
I'm about 4 months post-op. I still use parts of it every once in a while. It also came in handy when my teenage daughter was sick. Her coughing was worse when she was completely horizontal so this set-up helped her get a more restful sleep.

The chair is probably not as important as using a donut like this:
I use one on a super cheap office chair and it helps a lot. A cheap chair without much seat cushioning may be better with this actually because you'll feel more stable in the chair.
I was looking for new bed pillows the other day and came across something I didn't need but might help you, a tailbone pain relief pillow.
If you just google 'hemorrhoid pillow for sitting' you'll find options.
No endoscopy yet, am waiting on one next month. I had to sit up a lot too, basically the only way I can sleep is on a wedge pillow.
This is the one I use and I’ve been able to sleep pretty well as of late.

There is some discharge and pain, but lot less than what I expected. I’m only using Tylenol and ibuprofen after the surgery day, because the opiud drugs give you constipation. Also see if your hospital has exparel - this is a non opiud injection, that keeps the surgery area numb for 24-48 hrs. Mine didn’t have that, also get this cushion - Donut Pillow Tailbone Pain Relief... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KF9P5FZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share It was helpful Pre op but post op it didn’t fit me much, I liked the bed better.
I used one like this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MXNFBMK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It worked well. It was firmer and I didn't have to worry about it shifting oddly. I just kept pressure from being applied to my surgical site.
For me if I put any sort of weight on the ground it was unbearable. That lasted for a good 2-3 weeks or so.
For sleep I invested in https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RYNX8B3/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_DWT7EXHEM34HPBWGGWMM which helped kept my hip from moving too much and slept on the side opposite that I had surgery
In case anyone is reading this in the future I wanted to let you all know what helped:
Now most mornings I'm waking up pretty pain free. Incredible!
I like the full circle rather than the U shape of a travel pillow because the full head needs support (though I just have the top of the U at the top of my dome to fix that). I'd say go full comfort and add neck support. Might end up looking like an O with a horizontal tube at the bottom. The neck support should sit higher than the face portion but not ridiculously so.
I sleep on one of these bad boys. and have been tempted to drill a hole in the middle lol.
In general though, that looks pretty thin/not supportive. People won't care if their ear feels ok if their neck hurts too much to move so keep in mind over all comfort, that would give you a leg up on travel pillows.
Custom removable covers are a must!!
Looking good though. Good luck with your assignment!

With a good travel neck pillow. That and all the drugs in me made me sleep pretty good the first night
This is life changing and makes such a difference in how good my hips feel. knee pillow

My wife bought me a wedge pillow for Christmas to help with my snoring, one night I randomly bent her over it and we've never looked back. Its this one from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QNZCR4Y/
Love it. if it ever gets beat up or lost we're buying another.
bonus: because I am snoring less we are having better sleep and have more energy at the end of the day :)
Huh, I kinda didn't know that was possible. All I've got is a regular link lol
So far my favorite is this one: https://www.smile.amazon.com/dp/B079FK5QKD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_ZKXQ36F1DQQ9HZPG7Y5C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
What I like about it is that you can adjust the height yourself
I've got 3 more left to try out though so we'll see which one ultimately wins out!
I haven't had my lumpectomy yet but I did have a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy. My brother bought this for me. It was so helpful. I plan on using this post lumpectomy too.
https://www.amazon.com/Lunix-Orthopedic-Comfortable-Adjustable-Sleeping/dp/B07ZP6SJDQ
Haha I totally get it, it honestly could be local jargon.
So, here is a doughnut seat] - caveat I didn't use this one. BUT the concept being that there is a little more space to accommodate a car going over bumps (though the seat is frequently used by people with like tailbone injuries - so I used something "close enough" and it was fine for my drive home)
I started sleeping on my side with my leg in my brace still around 2-3 weeks. In fact, it felt better to sleep with my brace while on my side. It felt more stable.
But you should ultimately ask your PT if it is ok. I also got this pillow for my legs: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07995B8L1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_NWs1oy396Mj7X
One thing that has always been really helpful to me in the week before my period (bloating sucks) and sometimes during my period is a pillow to put between my knees. Idk why but it's always made sleep/laying more comfortable for me. It also helped with joint pain.
Something like that, there are a lot of options.
Amazon has many decent ones - type in knee pillow
They’re many options with a strap - search knee pillows on Amazon
Here are 2 with a strap
the one I have is Basically this
I have like no ass and it really helped with some hip pain i had
I have the snoogle, which is great but I’m 5’7 and I think it may be less comfortable at your height (because it curves). A firm body pillow is a good idea, but I also wanted to suggest just a firm pillow for between your knees. I got one pre-pregnancy for sciatica and hip pain and it’s been great. This is the one I have Everlasting Comfort Memory Foam Knee Pillow with Adjustable and Removable Leg Strap, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07995B8L1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_4W8EY922ZGJWATXFWQV1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Here is the link to the wedge pillow I got off Amazon. (Let me know if it doesn’t work) My sleeping set up is the wedge pillow, two pillows stacked under my knees and one pillow tucked in on each side of me so I can’t roll! I was debating between wedge pillow and pregnancy pillow but am glad I went with wedge. I tried to sleep without it last night just flat on my back and I woke up with back pain and felt more swollen than normal. Went back to the wedge and felt almost instant relief.

Hope this helps!
Where do you live? Do you have the option of getting your prescriptions and ordering a ResMed AirSense 10 online from Lofta or cpap.com or easybreathe?
If not, try sleeping in a recliner until you get your machine. Or, if you don't have a recliner, get a wedge pillow. Also, you might try one of these devices...all of these things may help you get by better until your appointment.
My mom sleeps with a pillow like this to help with drainage https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QNZCR4Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_wvv0Fb6E4NKSX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have a pillow made by the brand Avocado. I absolutely LOVE it. Best pillow I've used in my life. You can adjust the fill to your liking, so if your desires change you can change your pillow too. My mom also has an Avocado pillow in addition to a wedge pillow. She also love the pillow.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079FK5QKD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabt1_TpRUFbSSGJ1RP
This is what I use. It has an incert that you can take in or out and different sized humps on each side so that there are four levels of humps for different people depending on their body size/perference.
I love this pillow and feel that it has helped reduce stress of side sleeping on my jaw. I've finally begun to sleep on my back a good bit and it's comfortable on my back as well.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079FK5QKD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabt1_TpRUFbSSGJ1RP
This is what I use. There are lots of variations if you type in "tmj pillow" on amazon. The one I have has an incert that you can take in or out and different sized humps on each side so that there are four levels of humps for different people depending on their body size/perference.

I got two two of these pillows from Amazon. Greatest investment. Very comfortable and leg felt secure. Plus they are great for sleeping on your side
Excellent design and workmanship especially for spontaneous. I just Googled donut seat cushions on Amazon which might work rather well, https://www.amazon.com/DONUT-TAILBONE-PILLOW-Hemorrhoid-Cushion/dp/B01LSR1FD4 I'm thinking the padding for you could just be any foam rubber, in layers to adjust how close your face will be to the opening.
Very impressive!
get an ergonomic memory foam pillow. your problems probably arent soley caused by your bad pillows but it is contributing. i got the sandwich pillow:

my pain has significantly improved
Not at all, it's notched and super comfy.
This is the one I got.
Edit: Though based on your username, a little restricted blood flow might be good.
...do you have one of those inflatable donuts?...you can get them at most pharmacies...it keeps "the parts" elevated so youre not putting pressure on anything... https://www.amazon.com/DONUT-TAILBONE-PILLOW-Hemorrhoid-Cushion/dp/B01LSR1FD4
If you want something more supportive than normal pillows but not huge, try an hour-glass shaped knee pillow. They are made of memory foam and sort of blocky. Like this: https://www.amazon.com/Orthopedic-Pillow-Sciatica-Relief-Pregnancy/dp/B07RYNX8B3
I got one a few years ago after trying several different side-sleeping solutions and it's been great. It's shape keeps it from sliding away the moment you move your legs and it's thicker than a regular pillow just enough to be comfy.
Either paint a little sign for yourself with “Posture!” Or “sit up straight” or “stretch it out!” and paint or print a picture of a spine to go with it. Make sure you put it where your eyes tend to wander, in a spot that it won’t get blocked from view.
what I usually do is set a timer on my phone for thirty minutes with the label “SIT UP STRAIGHT” and I’ll just reset the timer for 30 mins. But that can be a pain in the butt to keep stopping and resetting.
I always imagine a string running from the center of the top of my head down to my butt, and then someone pulling the string up and that gets me aligned pretty well. I also made it a habit to roll my neck, and roll my shoulders back while doing that.
Oh my gosh wooden stools without padding hurt so badly after a while!
Also here’s the butt pillow that my step sister got for me. I didn’t realize it was so expensive but there are plenty of other options.
Donut Tailbone Pillow Hemorrhoid Cushion - Donut Seat Cushion Pain Relief Hemmoroid Treatment, Bed Sores, Prostate, Coccyx, Sciatica, Pregnancy, Post Natal Orthopedic Surgery – Firm Sitting Pillow https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LSR1FD4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UNxmFbMN1SVEP
I got one with a much higher end incline like 12” instead of the 6-9” recommended. I think it puts my head with my pillow at around 9”. I find it helpful. Mine also can be used to sit fully up. I have an almost fully fused spine and so I can lay on my side on it but it seems to be just fine on my back. This is the one I got and I use my normal pillow with it:
Bed Wedge Pillow With Memory Foam... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QNZCR4Y?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I highly disliked trying to used sacked pillows and other things to prop me up... it does smell a little the first night but the smell goes away
I’ve started sleep on a wedge pillow on my back though I’ve also have heard that elevated on your left side is better but I can’t sleep well on my left side on the wedge due to my back. If it’s really bad, I sleep on my couch almost sitting up. My symptoms usually are tight throat feeling and nausea.
This is the pillow I got:
Bed Wedge Pillow With Memory Foam Top - Ideal For Comfortable and Restful Sleeping - Alleviates Neck and Back Pain, Acid Reflux, Snoring, Heartburn, A https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QNZCR4Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_GnpsAiWzwtkOq
Edit: it’s much more comfortable than sleeping on several pillows as I tried that when I first got symptoms and couldn’t sleep. I also saw more recently that the have ones with cooling gel to keep you cooler at night.

A pillow like this definitely helps! I had very bad tearing and this was the only way I could sit in a chair to eat for a couple weeks. It will get better (I’m 100%) but it sucks while it lasts!
