Sorry to hear. I wear these.
They sell padded shorts on Amazon that are meant for that sort of thing. Like these.
Not sure what kind of hip injury you have, but I wear these padded shorts underneath my pants every ride, they've taken a couple hip strikes on concrete. It didn't feel GOOD, but it didn't even bruise. Well worth 30 bucks to prevent re-injury.
Glad to help! I’m like you I always want to push it and know I’ll pay the price sooner or later. I wear my shorts over them so no one knows haha. Good luck looking forward to more posts!

Hey everybody.
What hip pads do y’all use for downhill? I got these “BodyProx” off Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KJJ3YF3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_2SP4EYAY58RMHDV7KN4E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) and twice I have gotten big, nasty, elongated bruises in the spaces in between the pads. Are there better ones out there?
Thanks!
OP, when i don't wear hockey pants, i wear these padded pants , great purchase, use it for stick and puck, roller blading, and ice skating.

Not sure if this is what you're referring too but I love them. Hell I'd wear too of them and be fine, I don't notice them but that how uninterested I am in getting wrecked on a spill. I will probably get a jacket soon.
I want to push it to the limit but also very active for the 36 years of my life with very little accidents, I hope to keep it that way. I've never broke a bone somehow🤞
Of anyone has jacket recommendations or things for your shoulder LMK
For people debating open face vs full helmet I was on the fence for a while but IMHO a full face helps your body "roll" even better since the area around your face/head is fully enclosed. This is definitely bro science but it sure has a strong placebo effect😜
Workpants (like for painters or construction workers) sometimes have a place to put knee pads. But they won't do much for butt or hips, I think to protect those you still need Bumsavers or some similar padded undershorts (I use these, they're just as good and cheaper).

Works for me. Here's the exact same link, just embedded as hypertext this time.
I have those. I also have these, IMO they are just as good and a lot cheaper:
https://www.amazon.com/Bodyprox-Protective-Snowboard-Protection-Tailbone/dp/B07KJJ3YF3/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1SC98EAOGUI4V&dchild=1&keywords=skating+hip+pads&qid=1613197711&sprefix=Skating+hip%2Caps%2C259&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&... Dam thats a long link. You basically wear it under you pants and has aves my ass (see what I did there) multiple times.
We're fairly close in age, and I wear these under my pants. (I have some similar Triple 8's but they are much more expensive). They've taken a couple hip strikes on concrete no problem and they aren't noticeable visually (obviously they add a little warmth though).

>"zero time to fall correctly. I was riding, then I was bouncing off the ground - no time to react."
Yep, when it happens, it happens FAST, and the biggest problem is that because it's usually caused by your own error (that you wouldn't make, if you knew you were making it) you aren't aware that you're even taking a risk, and so are COMPLETELY unprepared when it happens.

>"300 miles"
I dived mine at 250 and that seems to be around the mileage range where it happens to a lot of us - basically we're now confident enough to push a little, but our skills aren't yet quite up to the task.
When you get back on, focus on your stance (never, ever "lean" to go. Instead, keep your core/shoulders above or just behind the wheel and shift your hips back and forth, extending one leg/knee while retracting the other, as though working gas and brake pedals) and your acceleration (always accelerate gently and gradually, never "stomp on the gas", so as to not overwhelm the motor's capabilities.)
These are fine, and reasonably priced. I have some similar Triple 8 shorts but they are much more expensive.
I bought a new surf skate setup with the carver c7 trucks. I was getting the feel for it thought I was doing great. Still getting used to weighting my feet, when I surf I am heavy on my back foot. So I go to do a power turn and put too much weight on my back foot. Board flies out, I land on my right side skin an elbow and bruise my hip. After that I bought these padded boxer shorts that protect your butt and hips. Helmet, wrist guards, kneee pads, elbow pads the whole deal. I’d rather look like a kook and skate every day than be laid up for a week watching videos of it. Also I’m 37 years old so falling and recovering isn’t what it used to be.

Hey there! Welcome back to the skate club :) I got these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KJJ3YF3?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details
I notice the tailbone part is a bit narrow and hard, but I haven't fallen on my tailbone with these pads on yet. But when I finally fell correctly, on my side, they worked fine and I'm sure no matter what it would be better with the pads on, until you can fall correctly all the time. Happy skating to you as well and best of luck!
I actually rock armored boxers and then seperate kneepads/shinguards as well, my regular jeans fit great over all of that just fine. I even wear elbowpads under my jacket because the armor that is in the jacket is shit and moves all over the place. I did just get a newer jacket that fist better, is adjustable and has better armor, so i may not need the elbowpads now, but still gonna rock the kneepad/ armored boxers to work everyday.

thats what i wear for hip protection, several different models to choose from, same with the kneepads.
I don’t know which ones are regarded as good or not, but these are the ones I have. They’re a little bulky, but they already saved my ass once, literally.
Fuck. It's like an accident ward in here today.
If/when you get back on, maybe some padded undershorts to protect that hip? I use these; they're pricey but they have D30, which is just about the gold standard for impact absorption pads (they are soft but immediately become rigid on impact, dispersing/absorbing the energy that way). Also pretty slim/visually-unnoticeable and comfy, though they do add heat.
If that's too expensive, I used to use these. I don't think they are quite as protective but they worked fine when I fell on them and they were also visually-unnoticeable under pants/shorts.
Appreciate it! I picked up a comparable product but may return it and go with triple eight instead. Hopefully you heal up too! Injuries are no fun.
I've had those T8's and they're good. If you're looking for something similar but much cheaper, I found these do the job just as well.
And recently I upgraded to these - while they are pricey (but note that site gives you a 15% off coupon for first-time purchases you can use) and I haven't yet fallen on them (and hope not to), they are less bulky than either, but should be more protective, due to the D30.

Took a tumble and I'm a fan. Would buy again.
I feel your pain, literally. I fell on my hip twice in one session and was really sore and bruised. It sucked even more given I am a side sleeper. So now, I don't care how dorky I may feel, at our age, getting hurt sucks more and takes longer to heal. I bought these (https://www.amazon.com/Bodyprox-Protective-Snowboard-Protection-Tailbone/dp/B07KJJ3YF3/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=hip+pads+skating&qid=1594830082&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExQU8yM0NRUVVGVE0wJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNTYzOTI0TVZVNktYUFRaWFRCJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAyMjYyMTUyRVgwNlpWSkVZSVczJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== ) have fallen a ton and has saved my hip countless times - I never ride without them.
