I bought Bond to control my dumb ceiling fans but also, at least partially, for the promise that "sometime soon" it would be able to control my garage door. Two years later it still only controls my ceiling fans and I've given up. I now control my garage door with meross.
Bond works well enough but it's not as smart as buying a ceiling fan that is natively smart. Bond, for example, controls the lights on my fans but has a hard time keeping track of it's on/off state especially if you've made adjustments manually or with the OEM remote. It also isn't the strongest signal so if you have multiple ceiling fans spread over a large enough area you'll need multiple units.

This is supposed to work the best and can control fans in multiple rooms with one device, but it's $99.
I use the Bond Fan controller. It’s not HomeKit compatible yet but the company has said its coming soon. It works well with Alexa to control speed and lights. You would need to have remote control modules in each fan but they are reasonably priced ~$20 per fan.
I have looked at those too, their products as a whole have decent reviews. For the money, if your fans have remotes, take a look at Bond. I have had mine since early 2018 and it has worked great. It is connected to my Hubitat and it controls every fan in my house and I have it connected to Alexa so it is the best of both worlds (alexa & hubitat). It is 99 bucks and as a bonus, it controls my gas log fireplace which my wife loves.
Very nice. FYI, I recently was able to implement a pretty cheap smart blind solution. Lowe's sells Allen + Roth motorized blinds for around $100 per blind. The you get one of these Bond bridges. There is a Bond plug-in for Homebridge. Works great a super cheap compared to many other solutions.
If your fan has a remote control, you can use something like the Bond controller for automation.
Does your fan have a remote control?
If so, you can use this device to control the fan, and replace the bulbs with smart bulbs. Then you can leave the switch on permanently and control the devices separately.
Take a look at the Bond Bridge. I use one with my HB fans to control them from Alexa and HA system. If you don't want to do the voice thing their app works great too.
Here’s a WiFi control that may work with what you already have
BOND | Add Wifi to Ceiling Fan, Fireplace or Somfy shades | Works with Alexa, Google Home | Remote Control with App | Works with iPhone or Android https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071GVGVVH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_u.lbGb4NFRG2Z
This might work. You will need a remote to program it and the is a plug in for homebridge.

If you don’t want to rewire anything you can get a Bond Hub Amazon Link
This learns RF of your fan remote. I use to control 4 fans in my house.
yes you can diy it with a microcontroller and rf emitter or you can just get a bond bridge. I got one, controls the fan and the fireplace, both appear as homekit icons in home app thru bond plugin on homebridge
I use the bond controller. It works great I can use the same controller for my bedroom, living room, covered deck. No need to limit what fan your wife likes aesthetically...

I don’t own this but it’s been in my Amazon cart for a while.

If you're intending to draw heat back down, I'm assuming you've reversed direction on your fan? If you reverse direction it shouldn't really feel chilly below.
You can accomplish what you desire with any of the various forms of automation out there. Probably smart things (don't know since I'm not a user), definitely home assistant or node red. Just need to set an automation using either the ecobee as the trigger, or a temp sensor somewhere. You should be able to put the temp sensor somewhere out of visibility. You can control the fan with a smart switch, or something like Bond, which would enable you to use Google home or Amazon Echo to control the fan as part of the automation.

It's a bit pricey but can control up to 6 fans and you don't need to see it since it will talk to GH or echo over wifi. They go on sale from time to time also.
Wouldn't turning a fan on/of constantly to simulate wind levels cause noticeable power surges?
Still, i need to set this up :) If only because a fan would be useful for dealing with the annoyingly warm tpcast receiver module.
Edit: something like this would probably work great. https://www.amazon.com/BOND-Automation-Ceiling-through-Compatible/dp/B071GVGVVH
Heck it could likely even be used to control a ac to simulate heat/cold.
I think what you want is BOND.
You'll install a remote-control kit (sold separately, but some are linked in the above review article) and then use BOND to act as an extra, WiFi enabled remote control.
I use
Works perfect for fan and fan speed as well as lights.Works with window unit a/c's also that have remotes!
If your fan doesn't have a remote already you can install one....
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073JQFDXG/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1
That is very strange.
Note that there is an older app, the original one, called ihc
Can you try searching for that? I still use it on my Android. It asks me to upgrade to the Broadlink App but I haven't bothered to do so.
So are you mostly using it for IR (infrared) or rf (radio frequency) ?
Bond is probably the best RF controller competitor to Broadlink:

Well...in searching - looks like I found a cheap competitor...with a coupon its only $18!!
https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Infrared-Conditioner-appliances-Compatible/dp/B0BBV7M924
I have no idea if its any good or not - hard to beat the price though.
Lowe’s sell cheap Allen + Roth shades which can work with a Bond Bridge https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071GVGVVH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It looks like if you already have an in-wall remote, you can use something like this to duplicate those signals via a wifi bridge. Alternatively, here is an example if you're starting from scratch. Of course, if you don't need dimming and fan speed control, you could put a double relay of any kind (like Shelly) in the fan head.
I don't have personal experience with any of these products.
This device let's you program the rf remote into it and it integrates with HA. Not perfect because it gets out if synce sometimes

It’s this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071GVGVVH/
This worked for me. It’s mimics the remote.

You got me, I had to go look up bond bridge.
https://www.amazon.com/Automation-Ceiling-Fireplace-through-Control/dp/B071GVGVVH
Not exactly the same situation with me however I installed five remote-controlled fans in my 1500sf house and home automation being an afterthought, purchased a IR/RF blaster
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071GVGVVH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Somehow it manages to go through walls and controls all 5 fans, so I presume my fans use radio signals. just a suggestion for anyone coming across this with my situation (already have remote control fans installed) and looking for an alternative.
For what eco system? Your best bet would be something like BOND bridge
https://www.amazon.com/Automation-Ceiling-Fireplace-through-Control/dp/B071GVGVVH/
You might want to check out Bond.
Nope, it knows about a lot of devices and you can custom capture the RF signals for the ones that it doesn't. Your existing remotes continue to work. No new receiver is required.
This is exactly what I bought from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/BOND-Automation-Ceiling-Fireplace-Compatible/dp/B071GVGVVH
I just got one of these, works great https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B071GVGVVH/ref=dp_cr_wdg_tit_nw_mr
I have a Hunter fan as well. I bought a Bond device which essentially replicates the RF controller Hunter fans use. Hooked it up to my GHome and it works perfectly.

https://www.amazon.com/Automation-Ceiling-Fireplace-through-Control/dp/B071GVGVVH/
It’s $100 but it’ll control your ceiling fans through Alexa. Mine needs to be power cycled like once a week though.
It might be cheaper to get a remote controlled fan, then use the Bond system of smart control:

Your gonna need a hub of some kind and to mess with wiring this is one that it for just fans https://www.amazon.com/BOND-Ceiling-Instantly-Amazon-Compatible/dp/B071GVGVVH
