Not sure if already said, but you can buy special mounts for the screen and either pull them from the wall towards you or set them up on your desk like I have with mine. It’s an extra 100 dollars I guess but having the monitors flexible is amazing. Also pedals and base for steering wheel in my opinion. Then last your chair maybe.Mount
Something like this, you will get the idea, just search for them it’s a good and cheap way to get the monitors closer I guess.
I know you wanted to remove the shelf, but if the holes that are left behind are not something you are happy with you can get cheap monitor arms for very little money if your screens have VESA mounting points.

I've got one of these for about £22 and it works great for my two monitors. You can spend more money for even more adjustability too.
One thing I would suggest if you're starting a multi monitor set up is consider using little big mouse, it's a complete game changer compared to the built in Windows one.
