You can use this cable to get a decent mic instead of just the audio cable provided to connect it to your PC or PS4 controller

I'm telling you, the XM4s are the best wireless noise cancelling headphones right now. Just get it.
I had to buy this to be happy gaming on my desktop. If you use the included audio cable you get good audio quality, but no mic. If you bluetooth pair you're stuck in headset mode which has latency and tin can sound quality. This cable and things like it are the way to go IMO.

i have xm3s, and everyone mentioning the vmoda boom pro is right, but you can also buy this one for a bit cheaper, i did and i don't see any problem. the mic has a slight humming in the background, but i dont even notice since i use nVida broadcast/rtx voice anyways for keybaord audio.
I ordered this for gaming and my friends say my voice is silky smooth. I wanted to solve the bluetooth latency/stuck on headset mode with bad sound quality both ways when gaming. For general calls when I'm working from home, the native bluetooth is serviceable, but if you were on a train or something you might want to pony up for the Bose 700s.

I use this now and love it!
Boom Gaming Microphone Cable Compatible with Game PS4 Xbox One PC Laptop Phone and Sony MDRXB950BT, MDRXB650BT, MDR1000X, MDR100ABN, WH1000XM2, MDR-1A Headphone - with Volume Control and Mute Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X4JZQ3H/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_8V6BBKMV47NVGMNA5PBS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I bought this cable that plugs into the audio jack and has an boom mic. Solves my issue and the cable is long enough to go from my laptop dock to my head.
If you chat with friends on PS4, I recommend buying a plug-in boom mic since the microphones in the XM4's will not work when plugged into the controller.
This is what I purchased off of Amazon. I like it because it has a on/off switch for the mic as well as independent volume control.
Awesome thanks. There’s a slightly cheaper one that a couple people with WH1000’s really like.
I was considering it because someone on the Vmoda reviews said their cable wasn’t properly seated all the way inside the headphone, does yours sit snug?
Yeah too bad about noise cancelling. Got these XM4’s new- open box couple weeks ago and the battery only lasts 5-10 hours anyway, longer without NC.
Last question: for the first week I was having no issue switching sound between phone and PC. Simulations connection has always been on but for the past week now it makes me manually disconnect pc Bluetooth to play audio on phone. Even if I pause everything and close the tabs on PC it doesn’t switch back and fourth easily like before. Any tips?
You could have got any pair of headphones with an auxiliary input and plug this in for a mic. (The mic is really good too)

Turtlebeach isnt apple but i promise you a lot of the cost still comes from the label of "gaming headset". If you spent 170 on audio technica m50x and put a mic on it the audio quality would be significantly better, theres ones that are a bit cheaper I cant think of off the top of my head but you get the idea.
If you don’t mind looks, some XM users uses mic add on like this
I have the XM3s. My workaround for the lack of mic is the ABLET boom mic passthrough cable to controller aux. This is the best of both worlds since you can use all the noise cancelling and onboard sound card features while having a fully usable mic. Also, the Soundblaster 6X game/chat balance doesn't work on PS5 since it relies on using optical audio (not on PS5) for one feed and USB the other.
Check my edit :) Wait huh now I’m confused https://www.amazon.ca/Cable-Boom-Microphone-Playstation-Controller/dp/B07X4JZQ3H/ref=sr_1_34?dchild=1&keywords=inline%2Bmic%2Bcable&qid=1603320489&sr=8-34&th=1
there are two options, one is pricy and the other is not, not sure what the difference is
ok ive looked even further, the 2.5mm jack that you need isnt avalible in the canadian amazon
that $25 headset is about the same quality as the xbox 360 one you are talking about, but there are a lot better options out there.
its perfectly fine if you want to play your game audio through your tv/sound system and just have the chat audio through the headset.
however, if you want all audio through your headset , you will want something more expensive, probably at least $50.
one option you have, if you have a good pair of headphones with a removable 3.5mm cord, is to get an inline mic like this: https://smile.amazon.com/Microphone-Compatible-MDRXB950BT-MDRXB650BT-MDR100ABN/dp/B07X4JZQ3H
As far as I know most headsets don't have great audio. But depending on your budget maybe you can get really good headphones and a mod mic like this one
Let me know how that goes? durability seems to be an issue with most of these boom mics on amazon. I'm gonna go with this one! Slightly better rating but way fewer reviews.
Here's what I use going on a year now. So far so good.
Boom Gaming Microphone Cable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X4JZQ3H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Do you have any recommendations? I've looked into ones like these: https://www.amazon.ca/Microphone-Compatible-MDRXB950BT-MDRXB650BT-MDR100ABN/dp/B07X4JZQ3H?th=1
Do note that the headphone microphone won't work so ya will either have to use the microphone in the PS5 controller or buy this cable (Not sure if there's others like it)
It is both 3.5mm lol. Im using this which has standarx 3.5mm Boom Gaming Microphone Cable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X4JZQ3H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Boom Gaming Microphone is what I used since Sep 2020.
On my XM3, the mic doesn't work when plugged in. I ordered this to get high quality wired connection with a really good mic for PC gaming.
Used a BoomPro for years with my SHP9500. Now I use this and it's worked out great.
To combine a boom mic, I purchased one of these things too since I read up that the built in mics are not functional when using in wired mode - https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07X4JZQ3H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_CqiGFbK2VCT4D
Right, Sony's bluetooth headphones don't support the mic when using them wired. You can get an inline boom mic though like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X4JZQ3H
Amazon has basically the same thing! Don’t know about quality as I have only used the V-Moda but should be about the same, has good reviews too https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X4JZQ3H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UF5dFbHT9WJ1B
