I’d recommend a palm or trim router (example) and a flash trim bit with a bearing. This can be a very dangerous tool to use, be sure you watch a few router safety tutorials on YouTube before you go this route.
Otherwise you could pry off that top piece and move it up, adding spacer pieces to the sides. You’ll need a board that matches the width and thickness of the boards, a saw, hammer and nails, or screws.
