Technical question from a person so novice that "amateur" is too generous:
I'm looking to paint a mug for my significant other's birthday in a couple weeks. Articles like this one are confusing me, so I wanted to find some experts to ask for clarification. I want to paint the outside of the mug in whatever way is necessary to ensure that it lasts as long as possible and is dishwasher safe, within the limits of not having any equipment like a kiln. I have this mug.
I have two questions. Some articles say to sand the glazed ceramic first, whereas others don't say to. Some articles say to spray a clear coat like this one after painting, and some say to bake it in an oven (with some, like the article linked above, saying both).
To sand, or not to sand? To spray, to bake, or both?
