I would also STRONGLY suggest reading this book, by Dr Joe Dispenza.
It is called 'Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself' and it is the most empowering book to my knowledge.
PM me should you be someone in a rough financial situation and I'll assist you in obtaining the book.
And yet we have people like Joe Dispenza writing books about how we can essentially use quantum physics to our advantage to literally shape reality around us via meditation and focused intention. Shit like that really drives me up a wall.
What angers me so much about this book in particular (I read it at the request of a friend) is that much of it seems like sound, practical advice for making positive changes in one's life via meditation. For example, during meditation, imagining yourself as having already accomplished whatever it is you want to accomplish, and by feeling like you've accomplished that thing, you will in turn behave differently (which will likely point you in the direction that you want to go). So essentially he's talking about behavioral modification.
But then he goes on to make outrageous suggestions. For example, he gives an anecdote of someone who had boils disappear from their body overnight. Another anecdote tells of a woman who won the lottery for the exact amount of her debt. And at the end of the book, he suggests that "remote healing" is possible (one person healing another).
It just angers me that he hijacks quantum physics in such a way. I'm being generous in my supposition here, but it could be that by simply believing such things are possible - that, essentially, there are no limits, it is more readily possible to achieve the things that are possible. I.e., the placebo effect. But, he never says that. He could've really had something very interesting and compelling to present, but I feel that making such supernatural suggestions really destroyed whatever credibility he may have had. I still took some good ideas away from the book (as mentioned above), and clearly not everyone sees it the same way as I do because the book has thousands of positive reviews.
Anyways, that was definitely off-topic but just something that came to mind.
I always struggle with motivation and direction, even as an adult. I figured that it's all about the conversation you have in your head and fixing that. Here are a few things that help me on a daily basis.

Lol, you should look at this book: https://www.amazon.com/Breaking-Habit-Being-Yourself-Create/dp/1401938094
You'll get a kick out of the title.
This was my response to the original person:
More recently, (by recent I'm talking many years but it takes decades for belief systems to change) the field of quantum physics has demonstrated over and over again through brain imaging studies that the mind (consciousness) and matter (energy) are completely entangled.
Without writing a novel I'm going to fast forward to the part where studies show that people can physically alter neuronal patterns in their brain by engaging in regular brain-healthy habits (IE meditation).
I realize that when people hear the word meditation they don't think of the field of science, the same thing with chakras. The older worldview thought the study of the mind (consciousness) was outside the bounds of scientific inquiry so the study of it fell to religion.
All matter is energy; atoms are energy - we used to believe atoms were made of solid subatomic particles, we now know an atom is mostly empty space, this empty space is a field of energy or frequency pattern of information. Our consciousness IS energy.
Our thought patterns shape who we are; all of our personal experiences are literally reflected within the networks of neurons (nerve cells) that make up our brains.
Therefore, with meditative practice when you're focusing your attention on something specific and you're repeatedly producing that state of mind (IE; what would you envision for yourself if you were to create a new ideal self?) - meditating on this question repeatedly allows your brain to create an image, feeling, and new thought process. Our brain has the gift of neuroplasticity and therefore the potential to create a new level of mind.
Thoughts are energy. Energy manipulates the environment.
When i get a chance I can link some studies, all you have to do is google honestly but a couple of resources off the top of my head on this topic are 'Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself', There are tons of publications by Dr. Daniel G. Amen using SPECT imaging to observe physical changes in the brain. If you google his name I'm pretty sure he has a website and does a lot of work with people who've had TBI's & concussions

This book is all about manifesting your reality. The author breaks down the science of it in an amazing way.
Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself - Dr. Joe Dispenza
I use this meditation almost everyday. Her channel has a few other good ones.
Russell Brand's meditation channel is pretty good too
Give this a read. It helped change my life.
No one is ever set in their ways forever. You can rewire your brain. Highly recommend this book. I think you will really like it. :-)

There's a book I read a few weeks ago called "Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself" - I recommend reading it: https://www.amazon.com/Breaking-Habit-Being-Yourself-Create/dp/1401938094
You should really read "Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself" by Dr. Joe Dispenza. It is truly revolutionary - I'm reading it right now and I feel like the keys to understanding life have just been handed to me.
Also I do think that you should follow the advice of other posters and consider getting help. If you need help finding a purpose in life read this, it can definitely help.
Good luck OP
Most if not all LOA books have more or less the same content. This is why I always recommend Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself by Joe Dispenza because it delves into the scientific and biological aspects of LOA and explains the mechanics behind it which most books don't.
Otherwise the Abraham-Hicks and Neville Goddard books are great.
In addition to that book, check this out too, http://www.amazon.com/Breaking-The-Habit-Being-Yourself/dp/1401938094. :)
