Would you risk buying cheaper crossbars on Amazon, like these? Or is that not a part to skimp on?
I got the OEM style one from Brightlines. Only difference with these is it uses an hex screw rather than the OEM torx screw.
I recently bought the Brightlines Aero bars from amazon. They look exactly the same as the OEM version. They sit lower to the car and have less curvature than the OEM. I only had them for a month and I have yet to find a single issue with them.

For a bike rack, I just use a hitch mounted Nash Bar sit-in rack. For the money its nice, but there are multiple issues with the rack and how it’s designed so I don’t recommend it.

I bought these for mine and have zero issues with them.
These are basically identical to the manufacturer ones. (I think it's really the same just not branded). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07285DLFT/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_4KKCXP3Y6TPEHHAYTW20
I'm in the same boat - am considering these Brightlines aero crossbars for my 2017 crosstrek.

So far they worked out real well. What's the benefit of Thule, Yakima, or other more expensive crossbars besides the name?

These? Yes that makes sense. Thanks for the suggestion.
