Having said that, I personally don't think the m40x makes for a good gaming headset option. But the choice is yours.

I currently own the 9500, SV007, X2/HR, L2, H6gen.2, and MSR7 and have at least tried a few of the others. Feel free if you have questions on any particular model.

Edit: audio technica makes one for 80 dollars but it's not even actually a wire replacement. Found a generic one that actually does the trick.

Not OP, but I have m40x’s and bought this modmic and it’s worked incredibly well. Crisp sound and an in-line mute button - I would recommend it 10/10 times.

I'm going to suggest buying the ATH M40X headphones with a boom mic. If you search Amazon for m40x boom mic it will come up. Been using this set up for a couple months and not looking back at gaming headsets. M40x with boom mic Here's a link to the mic which will have the headphones also.
