the BoomPro won't fit this headphone but there is a similar boom mic on amazon that fits the 2.5mm plug on it.
Without much information about the use case, the simplest choice would be the sennheiser PC38X since it's the full package. You could also go with a sennheiser HD560S or HD599 with this third party mic and a splitter. Beyers like TYGR 300 R can work with modmic (since they don't have detachable cables), and so does the sennheisers (including the possible HD58X which should be better for casual music listening than the HD560S but worse at gaming).
I just got a pair of HD 599s and I need an alternative to the V-MODA boom pro since it’s not compatible. Any suggestions? The vmoda did a good job of not picking up mech keyboard sounds. Budget 30 USD.
I found this one but it doesn’t seem to have any background noise cancellation.
Cable Boom Microphone - Volume Control for Playstation PS4 or Xbox One Controller, PC - Boompro Gaming Mic Compatible with Sennheiser HD598, HD598 SE, HD518, HD598 Cs, SR, HD599 Headphone(150CM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W1G95PH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_S46dFb3MWSVPF
Hmmm... I wouldn't pay that much for pc38x. How about HD 599 with an attachment mic like this?
HD560S uses 2.5mm with turn-lock. I don't believe V moda boompro jack is compatible with HD560S. You might need another adapter.
This one has jack that is compatible with HD560S. But looks flimsy and rating is not so great. Quite a bit of 1-3 star reviews

If you also care about sound quality for music, I'd recommend HD560S. If is just pure gaming, PC38X can be a good candidate.
Most of these gaming headphones come from manufacturers that make mouse pads, keyboard, mouse, etc. They don't really invest into R&D for sound quality.
Rting review is quite useless. And they are just comparing vs other crappy gaming headphones in the same category. And even their normal headphone rankings are quite useless. Sound profile need to be descriptive, not just some # and measurements.
Open-back headphones cannot be modified to block out sound. If you cup your hands over the open-back ear cups, sound will be change.
I have HD 560S for gaming. It has decent sound for music, depending on your preference. It is only $150. Cables are replaceable, but they are not standard (3.5mm with a twist lock); replacements are available.
I have Fifine mic $50. Works fine for me, as I my desk as raised side shelf, where the mic is around 1.5 ft from my mouth. Better if it is on a boom stand.
There are also mics that will go connect to headphones. But look kind of cheap and reviews are not good

Got this last week and its been really good, way better than G Pro X. Paired this with mic and its been incredible for gaming and music sessions.
Mic link if anyone is interested: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W1G95PH?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Came from using some cheap Sony earbuds (well, earbud since one of them blew out years ago) to these. Considering what I was using before, it didn't take much to impress me. Just the fact that both sides actually worked was enough to win me over (partially joking).
I also bought the ABLET Boom Mic, so I can use these for gaming sessions.
I have yet to buy an AMP/DAC, but these already sound amazing as is plugged into my motherboard.
Nice choice! I've got a pair of HD560s that I use exclusively on the PC.
I like them quite a lot, and I don't mind them being open backed and that I can hear the PC sometimes. They're also very light and you can wear them for hours with no discomfort and your head won't cook.
I have them paired with a Sound Blaster X7 and imo they sound great.
To make them more gamer/work from home friendly, you could pair them with something like this.

This mic for audiotechnica m50x works on hd560s, but I would feel more confident on something like fulla 4 or thx onyx... but if you don't eq it would be good on qudelix...at least it worked for me
Thanks for the reply!
I'm planning to use HD560s with Ablet boom mic cable, this one.
So same cable for both sound and microphone. I'll give it a try, if it wont be enough, I think I will add AMP/DAC combo to my battlestation.
Thanks sir!
You can get a cable with microphone that works for all 500 series sennheiser (HD560S or HD599), I really like my HD560S for gaming (though more casual playing) and in my case I use an external mic for party chat and meetings. But all recommendations here are good.
Just FYI you can get this to use with the 599s and it works great! I have a big head and the 599s are the only over ear headphones I’ve been able to comfortably wear for long periods.
The drop x sennheiser PC38X should be a good choice that has a mic and don't need amp. You can also get a X2HR and a v-moda boom pro mic, or an HD560S or HD599 with this, or a TYGR 300 R or DT 990 80 ohms or HD58X with a modmic or external mic (which should work with any headphone). All of the latter ones generally don't need amp, but not always (the HD599 being the easier to drive to the point that it definitely doesn't need like the PC38X). You can research those and find which one fits best.
For competitive games imaging is the most important (though a realistic soundstage may help as well), but a well done soundstage will be more important than imaging for RPGs and open world games since the world becomes more immersive (of course, no headphone matches a well installed home theater).
I'd get the HD599 over the X2HR mostly because of the durability and support sennheiser gives. You can use this mic with them. The HD560S is usually stronger for competitive gaming (it's imaging is better and the neutral-bright response makes it optimal for listening to details in audio), but not as much for casual gaming and the cost (outside of price) is that it's a more risky signature that many people will like to EQ (it's the same for the DT 990 Pro) and it's a little more difficult to drive than the HD599 and X2HR placing it on the frontier between needs an amp or not. That said the HD560S is my multipurpose headphone and I'm quite happy with it (I do EQ them for casual music listening though).
Oh fam, might have just found a better option for you!
I have this mic in 3.5 that I keep in my backpack for my XM4's, and I didn't even realize that they make one with the Sennheiser locking groove built in!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W1G95PH/
27 USD, so easily under your budget too! I never got any complaints from the version I bought, and most people in the reviews are happy with the quality too, I say give it a try!
I've been really happy with my HD 599s and this mic for gaming, I'm sure the HD 560 would be just as great. The 58x actually rolls off a bit more at the top end, so if you want a brighter sound, the 560 might be a better choice. The 560 is also lighter and would be slightly more comfortable for long gaming sessions. (That mic won't work with the 58x, also)
How do these compare to Hyper X Cloud 2 and does anyone have an affordable mic setup to go with it? I noticed this but reviews seem to complain a bit about build quality mostly.
Not necessarily saying it's the best, but I think HD 6XX's would be a great choice. I use this mic with my HD 558's and it sounds amazing- super underrated https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W1G95PH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_INJZkIafHBgAF
Edit: is that a referral link? Don't use it if it is haha sorry
Cable Boom Microphone <- try searching this on Amazon. Basically budget boompro, that has hd599 compatible version. bit worse in term of quality but way cheaper than modmic if you cant afford modmic.
I use this one in the link. Yes I’m on xbox. It’s worked fine for me, no complaints from anyone in my chat parties.

HD560s without a doubt. For a mic you can also get a boom mic cable that actually works very well off Amazon.

No, sennheiser series 500 uses a 2.5mm cable with a lock mechanism so unless you have an adapter a 3.5mm cable shouldn't work. This is the only alternative with the correct cable that I know of.
if you dont find anything here, there's https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Boom-Microphone-Playstation-Controller/dp/B07W1G95PH
The easiest would be to get a boom-mic like this that would just replace the stock cable.
Another option is getting a modmic, third option would be to get a separate desktop mic and a mic arm.
This is the mic I bought to go along with my 560s, which uses a 2.5mm Jack.
This is the mic I bought for my 560s. You'll have to find an option that works based on whether your headset takes a 2.5/3.5mm jack.

My bad, $28. I've gotten comments from most of the people I game with regularly, I was surprised honestly.
If your headphones don't support something like this, there are plenty of $30-40 mics on Amazon that go great when paired with a $20-40 boom arm, but the boom certainly isn't necessary.
I game with the 599SE's and one of these cheap boom mics for chat. You won't need an amp, but a discreet USB sound card (aka DAC), even just a dongle really keeps the sound clear from mobo power noise.
The 599SE's don't have the greatest-possible imaging (for footsteps in shooters), but the detail and sound-separation makes games sound amazing and freshly cinematic.
This mic works specifically with the 560s connector

With the modmic you end up with two cables. This one takes the place of your existing cable and adds a mic it’s really slick and works great.

To start off, I tried the Logitech G pro X wired model and returned them almost immediately. The sound was just terrible and they felt way to hot on my ears. I ended up going back to my Sennheiser Game One's. I didn't use the Logitech's long enough to give a detailed comparison, but the Game One's sounded much better.
I just got the 560S 2ish weeks ago and have been gaming with them since.
There will be a clear improvement in sound quality compare to Logitech. The high's were a bit too much for me so I had to EQ them down a bit for more comfortable listening (more for music).
The sound stage is quite wide on them which will take some time to get used to as well. I find that the clarity is there but I can't quite pinpoint sounds as I hoped, specifically in FPS games. In Apex for example, I can hear the footsteps around me, and I know the general direction, but I can't pinpoint them with great accuracy. I assume the sound stage is throwing me off and I need more time to get used to them.
I got the 560S because of so many positive reviews for them for gaming and music. I don't regret the purchase, they do sound good, but I was hoping a bit more from the gaming side of things.
So far I prefer my Game One's over the HD 560S for gaming. I'm using a Sound Blaster X4 DAC/Amp, so not sure how they sound straight from the mobo.
If you do decide to get them, I recommend using them for at least a week. You need to give yourself time to adjust to the different sound. Get them from somewhere you can easily return you end up disliking them. Also, if you need a mic this one on amazon works the 560. I've had no issues with it and it sounds just as good as my old headset mic.

Don't know how helpful my post is going to be, but wanted to give you my impressions from my short time with the headphones.
The PC38X is a great choice for a one and done open back headset. Technical performance in terms of detail and such isn't exceptional but it's fine at the price point.
As far as closed back headsets go, my favorite is probably the Cooler Master MH751, it's very comfortable, great for music, good microphone.
Another alternative to the PC38X is getting the HD 560S and a boom mic cable replacement. This one fits it: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Boom-Microphone-Playstation-Controller/dp/B07W1G95PH
All great options but the "best" headphone out of these options is the 560S it's a step above in most aspects.
I'm using this with my 560S:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W1G95PH/
The microphone has a good quality (depending on the sound card of course, im just using the Apple Dongle at the PC for that and it works) and it get its job done.
So this is what I currently have, but I’m going to do research on different dynamic mics.

I have the HD599 on my piano and HD560s on my gaming PC. This is 100% compatible with both. The fluffy mic cover tends to fall off so I grabbed a better one off a headset in work. Even did a job interview with it the other day, nobody has complained lol.
If US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W1G95PH/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_957JKRBW6XSEKG19QMG6
If UK https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07XXRMR3R/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_Z8EQ73SAMFFJKVTG4Q8E
I have Sennheiser HD599 which are open back. I can hear everyone around me perfectly well while using my headphones.
Just buy HD599 and boom microphone cable and plug it in your ps5 controller. It's not wireless though.
There are also options how to make your wired headphones wireless if your brother doesn't like cables attached to ps5 controller
Is this the same mic? https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Boom-Microphone-Playstation-Controller/dp/B07W1G95PH?th=1
I have this on my 560s. Mic quality seems very good. Never had anyone complain about background noise or sound quality.

Is that what you’re looking for?
Would this mic work? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W1G95PH/
This one might: boom microphone cable
I have the hd 599 se and bought this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W1G95PH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_0HAR62M8MBQ3AFYS7PD9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It's been working fine.
You can use this as it has a 2.5mm jack for the 599s
I use them with one of these and it makes for a fantastic gaming headset. Blows any “gamer” headset out of the water IMO
Those two use the exact same cable as the HD560S so yes (2.5mm with locking mechanism), for example this cable mic.
This cable with microphone should work if you don't want an adapter.
I was told that virtual surround was a scam. I have a Sennheiser HD 598 and I'm planning on buying this mic: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07W1G95PH/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ASXPATNFHTW74&psc=1.
I use this one. However, it's kinda cheap. If you want better quality I think any of these modmics are good https://antlionaudio.com/
Neomusica sells a compatible boom mic that sounds decent. It’s a clean setup with no additional wires. Here’s a link
Check this out.
Hi,
I had the same issue with my Xbox. This is what you’re looking for.
There are single-cable boom mics with a 2.5mm jack connection available. They're sold under various brands, but here is one example.
I cannot speak to the sound quality of either the Cloud Flight or the Alpha, but found a decent comparison from rtings to consider.
It looks like they are very similar headphones with the wireless functionality being the primary difference. Personally, if I were you, I would choose the wired version to avoid audio latency since you will be mostly listening at your desk via PC and not on the go. The wired version will ensure you don’t have any audio delays, which can be especially annoying when gaming or watching movies.
If you are open to alternatives to the two HyperX options, I would recommend looking at the following:
I’m not sure if these are available where you are, and if the prices are the same, but they all fit your budget from the US.
Hope that helps!
Edit: also consider the Sennheiser PC37x from Massdrop if they ship to you.
Oh, I think you're right. I ended up buying the $30 one on Amazon that comes with the proper size jack AND the locking connector so I didn't have to mess with any of this. Might be better for you: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W1G95PH/
