To be a rockstar at this job you'll have to be willing to do many hours of individual study to get a better understanding of cannabis. The companies don't provide nearly enough training, mainly just enough for you to sell what they carry. Definitely use the training as jumping off point, but look into things for yourself. The book Cannabis Pharmacy by Michael Backes is like a bible to me at this point and will help you invariably when helping patients.
One thing I wish someone told me when I started is to focus on treating symptoms and not diseases. Cannabis is not a cure all, but helps out with damn near all symptoms. People will come in a throw a list of ailments at you and it can be a lil overwhelming. Get good at asking clarifying questions. Leading someone from saying "I'm dealing with cancer" to "I'm dealing with inflammation, fatigue, nausea, insomnia, chronic pain, and appetite loss" is going to give you a lot more to work with and give you a better chance of getting them helpful products. I quickly google conditions I'm unfamiliar with if a patient throws it out there so I can see what common symptoms are and common method of relief.
Don't take notes on specific patients, as that gets hinky with hipaa, but definitely keep notes on success stories with products and certain ailments that you can refer to later.
