I saw this on a forum thread and it hasn't worked well for me. When I pull my Nalgene out of the holder the holder comes out with the Nalgene attached. There were some reviews that mentioned this being an issue but I figured it was overblown, I was wrong and it is an issue.

I don't know if you guys mean the "normal" skinny bottles or the big 32/48oz wide-mouth ones that people love for hiking, I've never seen a vehicle that can fit the wide mouth ones. I thought the only way to fit those was with some kind of adapter.

Mine (2016) crapped out a few months ago. I took the two movable flip up/down things out and used one of these in the front part… and one of these in the back part.
My two flip/flip down things broke. I put one of these in the front half and it meets my needs.

I have something like this. It expands to fit the cupholder tight. It works well, but is big.
