I got these before I started driving (for a living) and I have to say the magnet is hella strong and for $8 I got one for me and my wife. Even works through my case, it’s not a super thick case though.

This vent mount work well for all my cars. The magnet is strong and it holds the phone well. I just put a metal plate between the phone and the case. I don't use wireless charging so I'm not sure if the metal plate will interfere with that.

I have a note10+ which is as big as the pro max. The magnet holds well even when i go off road. Very easy to mount the phone and very easy to tale it off. The trade off is that you cant do wireless charging because you need to put a thin metal plate on your case.

You can get a similar device that has air vent prongs so you don’t have to worry about adhesive/sticky backing.

I use one of these magnetic mounts. The metal plate is stuck inside my phone case and I have the mount in the vent to the left of the screen. I can easily see my screen (I don't use Android auto) and it's super easy to take my phone on and off, no fiddling it just sticks. It sometimes falls off is if I'm on a service road but that's the only time it does. Its also nice because I can travel with the mount.

I use a vent magnet in my car that looks like this. I put a small metal thing that comes with it at the back of the phone inside the case and it just sticks to it. I find it very practical for me!

That's a wireless charging one so it's bulkier. They make magnetic ones like that that aren't wireless charging too. Since you said hire a car I'm guessing you're not in the US but I'm assuming on Amazon or wherever you'll find something similar to this if you search "magnetic car mount". They are miniscule.

This one works really well if you can put the paper thin magnet inside your phone case (or you can stick it with adhesive). Then you can freely attach/detach your phone from the holders that fit anywhere on a vent. It holds really firmly but is easy to adjust. And you get two and it’s very cheap

It really depends on what you're looking for, but I have this one. I have a regular Pixel 3, but it doesn't matter as this one should be universal! It's so clean in our vehicles (we have a newer model Corolla as well!) and I really hate those big jarring ones that stick out from the windshield or the vents. It's magnetic, so it comes with a little backing that you can stick on the inside of your case so that you can't even see it. I have a magnetic case that I used to get rid of my wallet where I don't even need the backing that came with the mount!

I use Proclip mounts. I used them on my Sienna and had on my older Corolla. They insert into the gaps in the dashboard of your car and are semi-permanent. That is, they won't come off unless you take them off (which isn't hard to do). But I've never had one fall off on its own. I wanted a most stable mount b/c my GPS also has a dashcam built into it so I didn't want to have to adjust it all the time if it slipped.

Now this mount is just the attachment to your car. You still have to get something to attach to your GPS to attach to your proclip. I got some RAM mounts that I screwed into the Proclip, and the other side goes to my GPS mount. This gave me a rigid mount that barely moves, but still lets me adjust it if I want to. Proclip also sells device mounts as well, but they aren't as flexible as the RAM mounts.

These are magnets that attach to your car vents. You can also get ones that have mounting tape that you stick to wherever you want. Then you get a sticky metal plate that you attach to your device. Then you just stick the magnet to the metal plate. I use something like that for my phone in my Sienna since I want to be able to take it on and off quickly.

As for something to block the sunlight, they do sell shades for GPS units, but that's mostly so that the sun doesn't wash out the screen.

I'm upgrading from a 7 to an 11, I have a car phone magnet mount. If I DON'T use wireless charging, will the magnet being on the back of the phone cause any harm? Thanks

This is pretty inexpensive... but honestly easily my most used for-car item ever -- it's a magnetic phone mount that sticks in the vent. You put a small plate inside your phone case, every time you get in the car, you can just easily stick your phone up there for easy GPS viewing as you're driving.
