Don’t do that. Just use this stuff. Carworx Refinish Restorer is the best stuff to use to restore fade. The Avalanche community has been using it for years. I used it on my old Avalanche and it lasted a few years. Just put some on my Jeep in the spring and it’s still good as new. Best kept secret!

I HIGHLY recommend Carworx Refinish Restorer: https://www.amazon.com/Carworx-133-175-Refinish-Restorer-500ml/dp/B008A5GRHM
The stuff is absolutely amazing and have been hard pressed to find a better product that lasts as long and looks as good as original. A tiny amount will cover a large area so don't go soaking an applicator in the stuff. Use a sponge applicator.
I'm planning to do a write up on this stuff it really is a damn good trim restorer.
Not OP, but we used this and it worked great

It is nasty stuff, wear gloves when applying with a brush. It makes the black trim look brand new. There is plenty to do your trim 20x over.
