I have one similar to this one, it can take a few days for them to get use to it, just put the current water source next to it and leave it until its empty and then remove it or if you can tell they already adapted the fountain remove it right away :)
ETA: also, having the water source a little away from the food can also help them be more attracted to the water!
Poor kitty, glad you got him to the vet on time :) I'd suggest getting a fountain, cats will drink a lot more when it's running water. We had our kitty go through the same thing (but milder) and the fountain was a big game changer. Here's the one we got
