Its counterintuitive but think about it (or better yet do some research) and you will see that all we can see in space is blackness. Yes, if a photon hit your eye directly you might 'see' a small flash...but it is the atmosphere that makes the sunlight 'visible'. Here is a good book to start with. Not sure why this is not taught more in high school and college, other than people might change their thinking about life if they realized that 'space' was only visible from earth, who knows they might start questioning the bullshit that they are routinely fed as 'knowledge' and their place in the universe.
