Thank you for this advice but, what size eyepiece would you recommend? And is there a particular brand that’s very good? I was thinking of getting this: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Celestron-94303-Eyepiece-Filter-Kit/dp/B00006RH5I but is there a better option? Sorry, I’m extremely new to astronomy and don’t know much yet.
It was Celestron – 1.25” Eyepiece and Filter Accessory Kit – 14 Piece Telescope Accessory Set – Plossl Telescope Eyepiece – Barlow Lens – Colored Filters – Moon Filter – Sturdy Metal Carry Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006RH5I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_4G8EF0MVSYDY5K8P6PKK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Quite expensive for a bunch of low quality lenses, half of which id never use. I just wanted to quickly get past the stock lens and didn’t know any better. Got a 8-24mm zoom which pretty effectively covers the useful range of my 8” SCT. Haven’t really get the need for a Barlow yet

Thanks for your help man! I've already come to terms with the distinction between naked eye sighting vs. long exposure shots. I plan on getting a very high end telescope at one point or another, so this should do for now!
Would it behoove me to buy this eyepiece kit?
I already have the Celestron Accessory Kit - so should be good on eyepieces.
I guess I'm just baffled that I can find zero information about this specific scope online - its not on any website (celestron, costco etc) and no reviews either.
I already did. I bought Celestron's accessory kit. I tried to do a ton of research before I bought anything, so I knew I needed the eyepieces. How was your experience with the telescope? My thought process was this was going to be a good scope for me to learn with.
My budget is probably fifty bucks (US) out of each paycheck until I get the basics covered. I have zero issues with used gear as long as it still functions properly. Is this a bad idea?
Neat :) Make sure it's in working order.
How old is it?
Does it come with a 2" or 1.25" diagonal?
Do keep in mind a 10" isn't that much more expensive, so consider the pros and cons, especially if it's not in good condition.
1.25" achromatic barlow: Not great
six planetary filters: You need one or two, tops (IMHO)
Moon filter can be nice, but an adjustable polarization filter is better. Also, with enough magnification, the moon is dimmed down enough anyway.
From the product description:
> Items in this kit are valued at over $700.00 if purchased separately
....Yeah, right. :-)
32mm Plössl: us$19 from eBay/China. IF the telescope would come with a 2" diagonal, a 2" wide-angle overview eyepiece could be used (cad$120 or so, e.g. Q70 38mm). Do not get a 40mm Plössl, it shows a smaller field of view than a 2" wide-angle eyepiece.
6mm Plössl: Eye-relief is very short (IMHO the 8mm is already critical, but it's a personal matter). 338x magnification is too much for typical atmospheric seeing condiitons. Get a 6mm gold-line instead (us$18 Aliexpress, cad$59 at Maisonastronomie), but even that one is for very good atmospheric seeing conditions.
Planets:
IMHO get a 9mm gold-line for planets, CH/CA/CA, 6mm if you really want to try more
Overview
A 32mm Plössl CH/CA IF there's nothing included already. (There should be a 25mm included that'll get you started, but nothing great).
If the diagonal is 2", a q70 38mm for example. Or a ES82. Or a Vixen 42mm 72°...
In-between
15mm gold-line (larger apparent field of view) or Plossl.
So if you are willing to order those from ebay or Aliexpress, you'll end up with usd$65/cad$88. Yes, it's less stuff than the kit. But for the price difference you could invest in another eyepiece (e.g. 20mm gold-line), a filter, or other stuff :-)
Just my two cents. The Celestron kit isn't bad or anything, but it's not a great value. IMHO. For the used price it's worth considering, but even if you where to buy eyepieces from Canada, You could get two or three eyepieces anyway.
Thank you so much for your time. I think I'm going to to go with the Onesky. I really meets nearly all of my needs right now.
I don't know how I haven't seen the Onesky before, it never came up on my google searches. Also I guess while reading through this subreddit I ignored ABW because I didn't recognize the acronym, and had never heard of the maker. I think the mobility of the Onesky is really right up my alley, and the aperture is better than most of the other mobile scopes in this range. I think the 8" or 10" dobs will be a bit too big for my liking, and I'd probably use them a little less often because of that. Also, the dobs are much harder to store in my apartment (which is definitely a factor).
From most of the review I have read, a Barlow is strongly recommended for the Onesky. As the scope is a great value, and I have some wiggle room, is there a eyepiece set or any other accessories that you think would really enhance this kind of scope?
I was looking at the Celestron and came upon this Gosky set. Any thoughts/experience with either of these?
Thank you so much. Will this work? I just bought it http://www.amazon.com/Celestron-94303-Accessory-Kit/dp/B00006RH5I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453675615&sr=8-1&keywords=celestron+accessory+kit
http://imgur.com/a/85GbE - here are the scopes.
I have some nice eyepieces that we ordered accidentally. I'm hoping to build a sturdier mount as my next project (I'm rebuilding my camper right now.) I like the rocker box and will probably go with that.
