Thanks for replying. I'll plan to buy it soon because I don't know about Hibiclens although I haven't used it consistently enough yet to see.
You get this specifically, right?
Sure thing! This is the one I use
You could use a salicylic acid cleanser, cerave has a good one I use CeraVe SA Cleanser | Salicylic Acid Face Wash with Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide & Ceramides| BHA Exfoliant for Face | 8 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U1YCRD8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_ACZEKAFNNZ1FZJXXW9RG
Start using an exfoliating daily wash, anything with SA (salicylic acid) in it. It will exfoliate the skin in which to prevent ingrown hairs. Cerave SA Wash
Thanks for a detailed response! I've been trying not to pick it much, but like you said, it sometimes looks like a spot is 110% and ready to pop, but it actually isn't, so I end up damaging my skin. The skin on spots like this does have a different texture vs skin in other parts. Thanks for suggestions, I'll check out he products you linked.
I have this CeraVe cleanser, I'll start using it instead of Cetaphil.
In regards to moisturizer, I think I may be putting too little on my face. When I was younger, my skin wouldn't absorb moisturizers well so I got used to putting very little, I'll start putting more on
I'm not too familiar with that brand. If you can (and if you haven't yet), think about giving the new Cerave SA Cleanser a try. I have a similar skin type to yours, and the other versions of Cerave were either too drying (the foaming one) or didn't clean well enough (the hydrating one), but this one seems to work pretty well for me.
As someone who suffered from razor bumps my whole life, let me help!
Ok so the solution to razor bumps: Kill germs + exfoliate
You can do this in many different ways. There are lots of products out there (TendSkin, Bliss Ingrown Hair pads, etc) that are to treat razor bumps and they are all generally a mixture of alcohol and a chemical exfoliant (some type of AHA/BHA) You can try these products but Ive found it much easier to use my own.
My process:
1. Cleanse/exfoliate my legs with CeraVe SA Cleanser and a scrubby glove
2. Shave with a clean razor and a nice shave gel. I use Aveeno Sensitive Skin
3. After shower I use Witch Hazel toner w/ Alcohol to kill germs and soothe microscopic cuts
4. Follow that up with my CeraVe SA Body Lotion
5. MOST IMPORTANT STEP: Is to repeat exfoliation DAILY until your next shave. This means applying your AHA/BHA product each day.
Immediate bumps are caused by germs getting into your pores, which could come from your razor, your towel, your shower, really anything. This is why sanitizing with some type of alcohol immediately after shaving is important.
Bumps which appear later (especially next day after shave which was always when it happened for me) are caused by the hairs inability to push back through the surface of the skin properly. This is where exfoliating comes into play. Exfoliating after shaving and each day until your next shave helps the hairs come back through the skin with minimal irritation.
You can use any combo of products to kill germs and exfoliate. Ive used just pure alcohol and stridex pads before. The stridex pads work really well for this, actually. But I like using the SA lotion instead since its a lot more moisturizing and seems to work just fine. If you understand what you are trying to accomplish, then it doesnt really matter the products you use to achieve it.
I hope this helps! Hang in there!
I don't sleep well and would at least like to look like I do. I once asked my buddy's girlfriend, who is all about skincare, how to reduce the darkness under my eyes and she got all excited and ran back with a bottle of The Ordinary Caffeine Solution to use at night, told me to use Cera Ve cleanser in the morning (I use this one, no idea if it's better or worse than the other ones) and to regularly use moisturizer.
I forget sometimes, so I do feel like my eye bags have cleared up a bit.
I had Aveeno before.
I might try this one from CeraVe: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U1YCRD8/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_R9QG52CYAWEQN613SNCT
I do use Tretinoin
Okay so that’s an RX so def talk to your derm about that, but there’s other things at home you can do.
Cleanser. Use either a salicylic acid or a benzoyl peroxide cleanser, personally I like these two:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U1YCRD8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MMJBBR9A76KS4ER12RT1
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YLJPMC3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_R00M5ET8KZXWXW7CKRM6
Retinoids: a retinoid is what most derms are going to recommend and they are fantastic, but it’ll will get worse before it gets better (it’s called purging). I recommend following this method with a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment to help mitigate the break outs. (She’s a derm and a FANTASTIC resources)
Moisturizer: you still need to moisturizer, go for something a little bit more lightweight and something with for during the day. The ones I linked have good actives in there to help repair your skin barrier.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F97FHAW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_FFJM7598XBXS6AZR4MGM
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00365DABC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_42FJMNKHK768H6WGP3RY
Pimple Patches are awesome too! Especially if you pick a lot like I do, since you have clusters of breakouts I’d recommend just getting the hydrocolloid bandaids to save a few pennies and cover a bigger area, these are my go to ones, they have them different sizes too. The adhesive can be a little strong, I recommend taking a little oil and help take them off so there’s minimal pulling.
Always recommend the cera ve SA renewal cleanser. It’s amazing and events your skin and brightens it. I actually use the SA renewal body wash, you get a lot and I can use it on my face as well. The Cera Ve SA body lotion is also love, sometimes I use it on my face. Makes body super smooth, these two are dream team.
I think the dream routine:
Am: - cera ve SA acid cleanser - Son&Parks Beauty Water Toner - niod multi-molecular HA serum 15 types of HA. - stratias liquid gold - shishoedo mineral uv gel SPF50++++
Pm: - Sunday Riley Blue moon cleansing balm Blue Tansy for redness OR if you like oils, KOSE softymo SPEEDY cleansing oil - cera ve SA cleanser with Clarisonic - biologique Recherche pm400 or regular p50 toner or cheaper alternative tarte knockout tingle treatment - niode HA serum -melazepam 20% important and alternate between this and Retin a, but not everyone can handle either of these. But it goes to say these are anti-aging power horses - Holy Snails Sauce Di Mois in Hangbang/spooky shark or whatever works for you. - an oil, Squalene, seabuckthorn, rosehip, jojoba, rotate what works. - an occlusive, like embroliysse concentrated lait creme , cera ve healing ointment , skinfix 12 hour miracle ointment All of these are better than basic Vaseline or squalor.
Great products:
Just a few products to think about. I am by no way saying jump and add any of these to your routine instantly. I’ve looked around and found a lot of, what I’d consider to be talked about products and decided to make it easier and list them for you.
I think a basic SA cleanser like cera ve would be a good place to start, a good spf that is non-irritating. Find a moisturizing Oil thst your skin likes and then maybe start trying actives. Don’t go jumping in until you find a routine that calms your skin and that your skin really likes. Then start testing the waters with maybe azelic acid like melazepem (strongest you can get in us is on amazon) or vitamin c. Possible acid peel pads. We kind of have to know your skin type and current routine. Things that have worked and have not, and what you want out of a new skin routine— in order to give you better direction.
Like this one would be okay to use? https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Salicylic-Cleanser-Exfoliating-Fragrance/dp/B00U1YCRD8?th=1
Those are all really good things but honestly if you're not going to have surgery you need to commit to a proper care schedule to prevent flare ups in the first place. I recommend considering a permanent hair removal but you can also wax/shave or use a cream hair removal weekly and keep an eye out for ingrown hairs. You'll also want to exfoliate the area regularly (alot of people suggest getting a glove) as far as what you use and how I would recommend starting with a cleanser that will gently exfoliate, I recommend the brand CeraVe, all of their products have great reviews and you can definitely find one that is best for you. Follow with Aztec healing clay also known as calcium bicarbonate clay with apple cider vinegar or water, this stuff is amazing and in my honest opinion is the best thing to slather on any skin problems. Finally I'd recommend applying a protective layer of your choosing and letting it air dry.(best to lay or stand infront of a fan) what you use will probably depend on your skin type and what is going on in the area. I would recommend that you find a few different things to use depending on if you are having a flare up or not, I don't think it matters what it is, (cream/ointment/moisturizer/serum) just try to look for something that isn't full of crap! spend some time researching skin care, finding out what works best for you is alot of trial and error, you're body will thank you for it in the end! Also get a coccyx cushion and any other support pillows that will keep your weight off of your hips and tailbone whenever you are sitting or laying down. Finally keep wet wipes on you to keep the area clean and free of sweat, gunck and germs throughout the day. cleanser Aztec mask tea tree cream I like to use
I really appreciate the advise!! I'm definitely gonna visit the esthetician/dermatologist before I'm planning using any products.
However I'm a bit confused when I looked up for the Cerave sa cleanser product it seems like their are different products of the same brand for example you have the CeraVe Renewal Sa Cleanser and CeraVe Sa Smoothing Cleanser and to be honest I have no idea which one I should pick? Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the Alpha Arbutin by Ordinary has the same effect as the Cerava?
Btw can I apply those product also to my other part of my body like for example my hand etc.
Thanks for the help!!
So much this OP. My go to is CeraVe salicylic acid wash, but these are also really good paula's choice bha liquid exfoliant, La roche posay effaclar, peach slices clarifying cleanser these are all have the same active ingredient so it's really just preference. Follow up with a moisturizer after washing and youre good to go! My favorite moisturizer is CeraVe moisturizing cream but it can be a little heavy, my favorite light weight moisturizer is Peach slices oil free moisturizer. Stay consistent and don't give up because it takes time to see real results, for me it took about 2-3 weeks for things to really clear up.
hi! i had this problem too with proactive. waste of money and ruins ur skin !! i have a quick reccomendation for u.
tried to make it as simple as possible, but this would be ur best bet. sorry ur going through this, i know how defeating it feels ! but trust me, itll get better !!
would you be willing to do face masks too< is that something that interests you?
It’s way too harsh for me too. I do a lot better with salicylic acid— and then moisturize gently after cleansing.

I am not a dermatologist and I don't know your skin history or what is right for you, but I'll link you exactly what my dermatologist recommend for me.
Salicylic acid face wash: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U1YCRD8
Adapalene gel .1% https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SQFQFXX
The .1% didn't work for me, but it's a good way to start to make sure it doesn't irritate you. Plus it's non-prescription so you could try it out without going to the dermatologist. There can be a purge with this where it gets worse before getting better. I recommend making a derm appointment either way, but I know there are crazy wait times right now and this may help now.
But it really my ebDerm worse...perhaps I need the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum after each application.
I'm not sure which one specifically you're looking for, is it this one? They might have different branding in different countries. There's also this one on amazon.de, I've had good luck ordering from them to Romania, even though it's not the cheapest.
if you have very oily skin, niacinamide can be helpful for oil production which will also help the acne. its most important to use a gentle, consistent skincare routine. i recommend washing your face once in the evening, and following up with any serums or treatments, then adding a moisturizer as a final step (it’s important to never forget to moisturize!! it can seem counter productive but its very important because it helps maintain the skin barrier and prevent damage to it, which can cause future acne) below, i have listed several affordable products, i recommend you use them in this order.
1) Cleanser - Cerave Salicylic Acid Cleanser ($9.87 on amazon) amazon link
2) Serum - The Ordinary Niacinamide ($6.50 at Ulta) ulta link
3) Moisturizer - Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask ($14.02 on amazon) amazon link
The MOST IMPORTANT THING is CONSISTENCY. It will take time to see results from these products, but following this routine every day will help. I would also recommend trying to cut out dairy from your diet if you can, there are a lot of added hormones which can greatly contribute to acne. Best of luck and please let me know if you have any questions!! I am a chemical engineer and have struggled with acne in the past so skincare is a passion of mine:)
I have some red, bumpy skin on my face/neck which is exacerbated when I shave, which I need to do daily.
I'm looking at two products to address the issue. Cerave SA Cleanser, and Cerave SA Cream. Do you know which will help me more with my bumpy skin?
On the one hand, they both have Salicylic Acid which I believe is what helps the bumpiness. On the other hand, I'm not sure if one method is more effective than the other product.
Thanks in advance!
CeraVe SA Cleanser | Salicylic Acid Face Wash with Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide & Ceramides| BHA Exfoliant for Face | 8 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U1YCRD8/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_a_9R9KVHTNVBX1PY3N4HSJ. Is this a good one?
Hi, I have three related questions. I am in a temperate climate and have combination/acne-prone skin.
First, I've been using this CeraVe SA Cleanser, which has both salicylic acid and niacinamide. Currently I am using it both AM and PM, but I'm wondering if that's bad for my skin and if I should use it less. If so, how often should I be using it?
Second, I recently bought this Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion, and I was wondering if it's meant to be a cleanser or a toner. In other words, should I use it instead of the CeraVe or use it after the CeraVe?
For reference, here is my routine:
AM/PM:
Softymo Deep Cleansing Oil
CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser
CosRx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
Kose Suncut Sunscreen
So my final question is, is there anything else I should change?
For post epilating exfoliation, this is one of the first hits that come up. I never did it (maybe I should have) but it looks great and it's cheap:
Biggest tip I can possibly give you is *pull your skin taut*. Even if you have the tonest legs on the planet, pull your skin before rubbing the epilator over it. If those whirring tweezers catch your skin, it will pinch and pull and cause welts and bleeding and ask me how I know?! >.<
Be sure to bathe/shower first, same as if you were shaving. Also if your leg hairs are too long (about more than half an inch), see if you can trim them down without going too much lower than half an inch. Too long hair can break and not extract properly, too short can be hard to grab.
Best of luck. Especially if you use it on your face (which I have)- it's brilliant for results but you will hurt. >.<

I use Glow Recipe Blueberry Bounce cleanser first to get the makeup off. This stuff makes even matte lipstick melt off. https://www.sephora.com/product/blueberry-bounce-gentle-cleanser-P436359?skuId=2131803
I follow with Cerave SA cleanser to help even out my skin texture.
I use retinol products and occlusive moisturizer afterwards but that doesn't have anything to do with cleaning makeup off. Also, make sure your makeup brushes and sponges are clean!

For a while now ive had these red spots, larger pores, and blackheads/sebaceous filaments on my nose that wont go away. My routine is pretty simple. CeraVe foaming facial cleanser > Lotion in the morning and I use rosehip seed oil in between at night. My acne has gone down (little to no pimples yay) but these problems are still there. I was looking around and yall can tell me if these will help or not with these problems that I have or if they're just good to have regardless of these problems
Those are two things that i was planning to get to help my large pores, SFs on my nose, and the weird red spots. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the niacinamide eventually but I'm not entirely sure about the SA cleanser
Hey! Just wanted to let you know that Automod has removed your comment because it contains an Amazon referral link, which we don't allow in the sub.

A number two on the buzzer. I wouldn't dare go shorter because of the red marks. I would like to go shorter but it would look disgusting

I use it with an exfoliating glove and it works really well and lathers up nicely
Check out r/SkincareAddiction, and I've had great results with CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser (SA = salicylic acid - is good stuff!) and the corresponding cream. There is also a lotion available, which is a little lighter consistency from the cream, but I like the cream better.
