My wife isn't a fan either and refused to use the new remote. It was almost a deal breaker since we moved from FireTV to AppleTV. She kept saying she likes Apple TV better, but the remote is so bad (her opinion) she wanted us to go back. I purchased the Channel Master Apple TV remote and not only does she love it, I actually like it as well and purchased an additional one for the living room ATV.

This is hard to do with so many apps no matter which remote you use.

I got one of these when I lost an Apple remote once. Works good, and it's more like an old fashioned remote so maybe easier to handle.
