I actually own two! They're a lot of fun to fly, especially this guy cause you don't feel bad if you crash it.
But considering most are hella expensive and wtf is your average person gonna do... and commercial applications are being VERY limited by the FAA, that guy is in his own la la land.
there are some that come in the package but besides that you can probably find some on a website, if you love nano drones theres this cheap good one thats better then the Sky viper nano and comes with replacement blades too! Though it has 2 replacement blades instead of 4
How about flying a small drone like this outdoors? Flying it in the dark really helps clear my mind and reach mental stillness.
I fly this drone to help bring stillness to my mind: https://www.amazon.com/Cheerson-6-Axis-Quadcopter-Airplane-Orange/dp/B00KXZC762/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1480290630&sr=1-1&keywords=cheerson+cx-10
I would highly recommend getting a CX-10. They are cheap and if you buy an expensive drone (1) you are going to crash it and (2) you are going to feel bad when you crash an expensive drone. Crashing a $20 drone doesn't bother you. https://www.amazon.com/Cheerson-2-4GHz-6-Axis-Quadcopter-Bright/dp/B00KXZC762
They would get one of these to practice on first. Plus, some of these students are actually working toward their pilots license.
I've owned the pico drone they mentioned, and it's way cheaper than 40. Here it is on amazon. It's an awesome little indoor machine and perfect for beginners.
They're super fun. I have a super tiny quadcopter that I think is what inspired my family to buy it for me and I love it. http://www.amazon.com/Cheerson-2-4GHz-6-Axis-Quadcopter-Bright/dp/B00KXZC762/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451084970&sr=8-1&keywords=cheerson+cx10
It's little and cheap and super entertaining just to fly around the room or whatever. If you keep an eye on meh.com, they'll sell them at even deeper discounts fairly often
The Q4 is Hunsan's version of the Cheerson CX-10, a very common nano quadcopter. These are cheap and difficult to orient and have very limited upgradeability, as well as being less tough. I'd recommend spending the extra money on an x4 to have a platform realistic to learn with and that is a capable indoor and outdoor flier.
Ah, the "say something negative so we don't think you're spamming" trick.
Also, the "product the company has worked for a year to advance technology blah blah blah" is a Cheerson CX-10, which you can get on Amazon for less than half the price.
Ok, first it's not a drone at all, it has no brains to fly itself and even with all the stability shown in the video, if real, just makes it a stable remote controlled vehicle
Second the stability looks the same as every other quad of that size, the "hover" example was all within ground effect so no actual code is working there, just physics. When shown in the middle of the room it has the same issues maintaining position as all quads of this price point.
Next, there are already highly successful quads at the same price point, why would anyone sponsor this instead of just buying one?
Finally it's not even a unique design, it's looks exactly like devices already flooding the market, in fact it's even significantly more expensive then the version they obviously copied: http://www.amazon.com/Suppion-Cheerson-Quadcopter-Airplane-Orange/dp/B00KXZC762
I was recently shopping for a birthday gift for myself and found this one which definitely looks like a winner. Grab two for when you break the first one, couple of extra batteries and rotors and you have fun fun fun for within budget.
You'll find it cheaper at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Cheerson-2-4GHz-6-Axis-Quadcopter-Bright/dp/B00KXZC762
It seems to be a small but capable quadcopter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YysyZBWx4Dk
In that price range you can expect a nano drone without a camera. Still a lot of fun to fly inside though. I really liked my Cheerson CX-10 but Symas Nano drone has better reviews on amazon. Syma X12S
so they bought this thing and glued horse hair to it?
The mini Cheersons are awesome. My 7 year old has one and it's easier to control indoors than the hubsan. They even have a camera and they love filming.

The Cheerson Cx10 It's under $20 and It's a blast to fly.
Edit: There's even a version that has a camera on it but I didn't get that one.
Cheerson cx-10 is a ton of fun. It is super cheap (see bangood or Amazon).
I have crashed this thing SO much, and have only had a few bent props, which are easy to bend back. It has 3 rates (slow, medium, and fast) and can do sweet flips. It charges very fast, and lasts for long enough to have some good fun.
Looks a lot like Cheerson CX-10, even the remote seems the same. Flies really well for a 10-15$ toy. Stock battery lasts for about 10-15 minutes depending on usage.
Start in angle mode to get the basics and switch to rate as soon as you start getting comfortable
Download a simulator. FPV Freerider is $5 and totally worth it. If you have taranis and a cable you can use that as the controller.
Buy a cheap toy like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KXZC762/ and get http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PGRNFE0/ to practice around your house
If you're using 5040 or 5045 props try 5030 for learning
If a $5 licence discourages you, this really isn't a hobby you should get involved in. Kind of like saying you lose your interest in owning a car because buying a tag is too much... the hobby itself is way more expensive than $5 would matter on.
Still though, the weight minimum is .55 pounds (8.8 ounces), and starter quads are less than half that. Or this one which is 6.4 ounces.
Pretty sure that includes the weight of the controller too. Just the quad is probably far less.
The Amazon's is where I got mine.. http://www.amazon.com/Cheerson-2-4GHz-6-Axis-Quadcopter-Bright/dp/B00KXZC762
it's re-branded... rip off. I can buy one from California for less than the replacement Propellers!
There's also the cx10 quad for $20 link
I started just a few months ago. Here some quick tips.
Starter Quads: (linking to Amazon for convenience. You can find them cheaper other places)
Cheerson Cx-10 - $15-$20, great for indoors and learning
Syma X11 or Hubsan X4 - $25-$45, Great for indoors and out. Very acrobatic and beginner friendly. Some have version with cameras.
Syma X5C - $45, great starter one for outdoors. Has an ok camera that records video and stills.
Those are the ones I started out with (well not the Hubsan) and they are fun little things. Make sure to buy extra batteries and propellers, also propeller guards. There is a learning curve, but if you've played a lot of video games, you'll get the hang of it. They are kind of hard to control still.
Those are just starter ones, you can custom build ones for racing, acrobatic and agility, professional filming, etc. You can connect GoPro's or even cooler, is have a camera and transmitter that transmits to goggles so you can fly first person. They're doing some cool stuff these days, and the technology is getting cheap.
