In the 80s. butane for refilling lighters came with an assortment of refill tips. One of the fits on the type of butane you can buy cheap at the international grocery store (4 cans for $5). i just add a tip, invert, and fill. You probably want to use a cooking scale to weigh your empty canister first.

You won't get super duper cold weather performance, but we can discuss the nuances the next time we're waiting out a storm in a snow cave on K2. For 99% of the camping I do nowadays it's fine, and I can do a refill for less than $2 each.
