We get this brand: CJ Haechandle Gochujang, Hot Pepper Paste, 500g (Korean Spicy Red Chile Paste, 1.1 lb.) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BDRMFDZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_PN9FYJ3R9G8MQ1CKQNS3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Usually able to find it at most Asian supermarkets and Whole Foods
Look for a container that looks like [this.](cj haechandle gochujang, hot pepper paste, 500g (korean spicy red chile paste, 1.1 lb.) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BDRMFDZ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_K9NSKDGE23ZT021QND2A?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) The brand might be different but it will be good. Watch out and make sure you're getting the spicyness you want. From what I've seen they come in hot and very hot. I just use hot.
I’m not an expert but I think the ones, in terms of being more authentic, are the ones in the red tub like this.
The only reason I bought the one pictured is convenience. The one you mentioned looks more like a sauce and you want the paste as that’s what’s used in Korean recipes.
Hope that helps.
It's actually crazy easy to make if you have all the ingredients: *2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste) *1 Tbsp sesame oil *1 Tbsp sugar *1 Tbsp water *1 Tbsp roasted sesame seeds *1 tsp apple cider vinegar (or rice vinegar) *1 tsp minced garlic
Just mix everything together and you have the sauce. It's a little spicy but you can add less or more gochujang to adjust the spiciness.
I make a lot of Korean dishes, and while it may still be good without gochujang, it is definitely not the same dish anymore.
You can order it on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BDRMFDZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_8Z46CA0ZJRM87M0KAHKQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Costco airs on the side of caution when it comes to spicy and sweet. Some customers are very susceptible to spicy. Would much rather have it too spicy then sweet. Every time I buy, I just add a table spoon of gochujang (a spicy Korean paste). Everything is perfect. The spicy balances out with the sweet but i usually sweet some aside for my kids because they prefer it just the way costco sells it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BDRMFDZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_JYOdFb7VW5VBX
Kind of a subjective question there.
What flavor Ramen? How hot do you like your sauces?
Have you only tried grocery store gochujang? I'm talking about the sweet, liquidy crap. I got a tub of true blue Korean gochujang (Extra hot) and its more of a tight paste. This stuff is great in Ramen and brings real heat!
Here is the level 3, but I picked up a level 4 in my local Asian Grocery Link
