Exceed brand Reinforced Filler Paper is decent, but it can be picky with certain inks. I just picked up a Clairefontaine notebook, but that is a tad expensive. 110 lb paper is like cardstock, so I would go with the HP 32lb LaserJet paper, as people seem to like that.
You can maybe try some clairefontaine notebooks. I see a pack of 4 wire bound notebooks on Amazon for around $20.
I would get some nice clairefontaine from amazon. There is some quality paper.
I haven't seen a lot of these inks posted lately, although there has been some buzz about the company returning this month. I got these inks from Anderson Pens - they have some samples on their web site. Very fast, nicely packaged. Highly recommended.
These are all on Clairefontaine 90g.
The bottles are all plastic, 55 ml. The Gregor Mendel ink is opaque, presumable due to the chlorophyll in it or maybe it has to do with it being a pigmented ink, I don't know.
I didn't upload them in order, I opened the Gregor Mendel Pigmented Pea Green ink first (second image). This is my first pigmented ink. It smells very strongly of peppermint. No complaints, it's a lovely smell - the smell goes away while it is drying. I accidentally had my flash on, that's what you can see in the loops and on the labels. The pen wasn't skipping, it's a reflection of the still wet ink. In fact, the ink is still wet. I don't know if that's a property of pigmented ink or this particular ink, but it's still not quite dry. I wish I took note of what time it was that I started, but it seems like it's been at least 15 minutes since I first started. It shades very nicey, you can see the nice pale green through to th nice dark green, and this is on a TWSBI Diamond 580 medium, I imagine it will do nicer on a broader nib. This is not an ink and paper combination to take notes with, it has the longest dry time I have experienced with an ink so far.
The next ink I tried (first image) is the L. Frank Baum Emerald City Green. This ink looks like the Gregor Mendel smells, a minty green. It has some shading, and dries much faster.
The last ink I tried is the Nautilus Blue. It also dries quickly and has some nice shading. It looks like there might be a faint reddish sheen to it when I hold it up to the sunlight, but it's very faint and it might just be the angle of the sun and its tendancy to shade orange/red.
I just got these images up quickly, I didn't adjust the white balance or even get out my nice camera and light box, these are just quick cell phone snapshots because I made three HUGE mistakes recently. I went back to college this summer with a full load, resubscribed to World of Warcraft, and am joining the orchestra in the fall.
