That's what the step up traps are for:

I put diatomaceous earth in the center circle, talcum powder in the outer ring. They can climb into the outer ring, but can't climb back out. Worked magic for us.
I think the Vaseline / double sided tape is a great idea! I didn't think of it when we had our problem.
Oh, yeah -- this is crucial. The bed cannot touch the wall. Absolutely. Thanks for mentioning that.

Use talc powder or diatomaceous earth for maximum prevention.
I’m so sorry you’re losing your dad and dealing with this on top of it. Big hug.
After you steam and seal mattress and box spring, and spray the bed frame and legs, and move bed away from all walls/dressers (anything they can climb up) pop these under all bed legs. At least you’ll get some sleep! If u add powder so they die on impact, you get to see which direction they are coming from too. GL!

To be definitive, I'd install some climb-ups.Be sure the bed isn't touching anything else like the wall or nightstand when you have them installed. If the bed gets moved a bit, move it back away.
The climb-ups will only trap a specimen if the legs of the bed (on which the climb-ups rest) are the only way onto the bed.
A climb-up is a way to detect them but is by no means a treatment.
i hope they get all the bastards for you this next time.
it really takes a toll mentally and can take awhile to heal after all is said and done and they’re gone.
another user recommended these traps to me. they’d also said if the bugs were on the inside of the ring they were coming from the bed. that way you could be sure they’re all out of the bed as well as kill any that pass through

best of luck to you on your journey and i hope that you can find whatever peace there is.
I lived with them years ago and it is traumatic as hell. Another option is to get traps like these for the legs of your bed. There are 2 rings. If the bugs are on the outside ring the bugs are crawling from the floor. If they are on the inside ring; they are coming from the bed. I am allergic to the bite of a bed bug. It is absolute hell to deal with. Personally, I would move out and leave EVERYTHING behind. The bugs probably traveled with you from the hotel.

Get the climb up intercepter traps for your bed where it touches the floor and remove any bedskirt or low hanging bedding and sleep on the bed as normal. Then check the traps daily to see if you catch any bugs.

My friend just went through bed bug hell with his kids. He finally got rid of them. He used those cups for the feet of the bed (http://www.amazon.com/Climbup-Insect-Interceptor-Bed-Trap/dp/B0033SC0LI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455650046&sr=8-1&keywords=bed+bug+cups) and put double sided tape around the bed frame so they would stick to it and then sprayed the whole house with this stuff (www.homedepot.com/p/Bed-Bug-Rid-16-oz-Ready-to-Use-Insect-Control-Spray-Bottle-BBR300316/204366819). Also he washed all the sheets in hot water and moved the bed away from the wall so if the bugs tried to get to him and the kids, they would have to try to get past the cups and tape. He said he would find the bugs near the ceiling as they would try to hide in the molding and crevices like that. Good Luck!!!
I read these can be helpful to prevent them from getting up to the bed - https://www.amazon.com/Climbup-Interceptor-Bed-Bug-Trap/dp/B0033SC0LI - if you read one of the reviews with a picture, the lady goes into extreme detail of how she got rid of them.
Oh man, I would burn that house down. I agree that diatomaceous earth is a great tool. we put them in little saucers around the bed posts to catch them crawling up, https://www.amazon.com/Climbup-Interceptor-Bed-Bug-Trap/dp/B0033SC0LI. It was also a good tool when we were later paranoid about them. (Like every time I had a mosquito bite for about a year.) Pull the beds away from the walls to prevent other avenues of access while you are treating in the house. We lived with all our fabrics in plastic bags for six weeks, unwashable fabrics in the freezer for like two years (fur lined leather gloves) Put our mattresses in encasements https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004BAEF7E?maas=maas_adg_api_2133728670901_macro_1_2&ref_=aa_2&aa_campaignid=15150123026&aa_adgroupid=134875405888&aa_creativeid=ad-558408543580_kwd-26806295794_dev-m_ext-.
Our experience with them was 9 years ago in an apartment 5 states away and we still cross the street whenever we see a mattress on a garbage pile.

Had bed bugs. Still have PTSD
I used Assure Environments
Keep in mind that for almost all of these YOU have to do a lot of work if you really want to get rid of the bugs.
You have to take everything out of the closets and drawers, dry it on high for 40 min/ steam it and put it in sealed bags. You have to steam and/or treat everything. You have to be very systematic and make a plan.
You have to be a religious fanatic about not transferring stuff from you bed to other areas of the house.
You have to get bed bug traps for any furniture.
I bought a commercial steamer. I lived out of a couple plastic bags for a while and steamed the entire house (after the exterminators ) every weekend for 2 months.
Then everything in the sealed bags got dried in the dyer/and or steamed and inspected carefully before being put back little by little.
I also threw a lot of stuff away. You have to be very patient to steam stuff properly.
You also have to prep the house properly before the exterminators come (taking down pictures, outlet covers, radiator covers etc). The more you do that, the better than can exterminate.
That said, the company I recommended was excellent on every level, and knowledgeable and gave me great instructions and advice about what to do.
Thanks you! I'm going to buy these asap and update accordingly!

They worked for me. It's a solution for people who can't afford exterminators
> he's currently dealing with an active infestation
Yep, people want to learn from others hard experience and I do my best to tell them what works and what doesn't since I have one to play with. :)
So lets go over what we've learned.
Con
Naival's 4 trap hootch CO2 method stinks up the place, keeps one awake at night with hunger, draws ants, fleas and roaches (thus more bait or insecticide to treat), costs plenty in sugar, yeast, time and effort. May last only a week. If you make the trap wrong it's all wasted effort.
Pro
4 plastic bed post traps are easier and more or less permanent. Why make CO2 when your own breath attracts them and all that is needed is the trap in their path?
http://www.amazon.com/Climbup-Insect-Interceptor-Bed-Trap/dp/B0033SC0LI
Here is a cheap homemade one.

Con
The "Missouri Method"of gassing of the mattress is worthless, costs money for the plastic ($15) + dry ice which is sold in $8 blocks. Also trapping moisture on the mattress when the dry ice sublimes makes for a mold/mildew problem.
Pro
Faster and cheaper to just vacuum/brush outside and spray with $2 worth rubbing alcohol in a $2 sprayer and your done. Rubbing alcohol dries in seconds and kills surface bacteria as well. No mold or mildew.
Some people just don't know how to accept failure.
