VLSI, it is a huge field with a lot of employment oppertunity and massive amounts of research being done. Intel, Samsung, TI, Micron, AMD, Nvidia, all of them spend billions every year on RnD.

Some book recomendations:

VLSI design,

Fabrication engineering

Both are pretty standard book. Also, if you really do go to MIT then there are defiantly a bunch of courses to take and I would be shocked if there wasn't a number of clean room labs for you to work in as well, just talk to your counselor.
