Get a Coleman sun dome for like 50 bucks and then load up the back of your car with whatever extra gear you’d like to take, store it in the tent when you get to the site.
Roof racks are great when you’re out of room inside the car, but are expensive and hard to get stuff in and out of.
Which mountains ? Depending on bear activity you may not want to just leave your cooler sitting outside, should have a bear proof cooler or tie it up in a tree if you can’t lock it in your car.
Edit: here’s the tent on amazon for 42 shipped ....it’s a tank of a tent for the price.
Mine came from Dick's Sporting goods, but looking online they aren't that cheap now. Mine was a 3 person which was great because one of my friends shared the tent with me. I am thinking the Quest branded ones now are of similar quality.
There is one on amazon that looks like it good be a good option. and there are plenty of reviews which average well.
Can't really tell you if the boots were large/spot on/small. As I am female and the boots were men sizes and I don't have that many pairs of men's shoes to tell you. I bought them at Sports Authority so if there is one of those nearby you could go test.
You, Sir, are a hero! Pad and Bag are as good as purchased. I have one quick question about the tent. I love the ridiculous weight of this thing, but I was also looking at tents like this one:
What would you say about the two tents in question?
Thank you!
/r/camping would be a better subreddit.
Car Top Tents are much more expensive and complicated than 'regular' / 'ground' tents. I would recommend a basic traditional 'ground' tent.
You would have to add more info to get valuable advice. First - what type of car do you have? What is your budget? When do you plan to go camping (summer, winter, all months)? Where do you plan to camp (paid campgrounds, forest roads, backcountry)?
Here are 2 super generic recommendations....
1. Coleman Sundome - $65. Cheap and basic, but gets the job done.
Maybe you’re looking at the 4 person?
The two person (which is what you see in my picture here) is currently 51 bucks.
Right, but you don't get to pick the rent, the owner of the property does. If you don't like the amount, find someone else who will agree to let you occupy their property for an amount that can be agreed upon by both parties. If you can't find one, try this:
