Try out a cot instead, man. No inflation needed... ready to-use in two minutes and totally off the floor. Prolly cheaper than any air mattress too
You’re welcome. I purchased this particular cot. I’d watched YT reviews before the purchase so I knew it’s weight and difficulty of set up. If you buy this particular one, stand it up on its side when you are trying to latch the second bar in place. Use your foot on the side metal rail for leverage. I found it took a lot of upper body strength but with lots of tries and sweat dripping from head to toe, I was able to lock it.
I snuck a peek at your profile and we are essentially the same weight. I really preferred being off the ground for the ease of getting out of the dang bed! My cot isn’t perfect but good enough for a budget camper and can hold 300lbs of weight. It’s sturdy.
Normally for car camping I would just bring an air mattress. Although this year a buddy of mine brought a cot that was similar to this one and it was surprisingly very comfortable.
I still have my grandpa's cot from WWII. Army green canvas material, wood frame, metal brackets. The end supports have two holes in them so you can choose the firmness of your cot. It's actually pretty comfortable. I'm 240 lbs and it supports me on it with no issues. The make creaking sounds like a wooden rocking chair when you move on it no matter your weight.
Here's a more modern version of the same thing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003696236/?coliid=I26XKVS5BA8ZJ0
The originals just had a single pin pivot point on the legs (like in op's video) whereas the newer one has a bracket on the legs.
I have a lot of bedding here. I bought this cot, this mattress and this topper
I don’t think the cot needed the extra bedding but I bought those before I bought the cot. The cot alone would be a very firm surface so I liked the padding of the mattress. I’m a side sleeper and don’t do well on the floor. The cot is also helpful to have while dressing in a short tent, as well as getting up in the morning. I’m not an agile person so having the extra cushion and comfort helped.
Here’s the link. I bought last Fall under new/used. Since then the prices have gone up also I just noticed. They are heavy but solid. Camping Cot

This one is 22lbs. I keep one at home for guests and sometimes lug it around in the truck for fishing trips. Would recommend adding some sort of closed-cell foam pad for warmth.

I second the renting a room option - maybe check out local Airbnb's, so you won't be tied down to a lease/denied for lack of credit. Depending on your location, there can be lots of rooms available to rent/sublet for longer term! If times are truly tough, maybe reach out to other family/friends that you could stay with for the time being? (I hope you have that option, it's so important to have a good support system in your life, especially when you're young.) Don't be afraid to move cities either - bus tickets are fairly cheap.
If you can't afford a bed and need one, I recommend an army cot! I had to sleep on one myself - they are super easy to move around and honestly, not that uncomfortable! I got this one from amazon when I needed it, and it worked really well for me!!
Try to work multiple part time jobs for now, but make sure to keep good care of yourself too, mentally and physically. Biking is a great idea, if you have that luxury or if the weather permits! Shop secondhand if you need anything, and NEVER hesitate to approach a local food bank if you truly need it. It might be beneficial too to try and work your way up from part time to managerial positions - I have a friend who started out as a Starbucks Barista, and worked his way up to a District Store Manager position! He now makes a six-figure salary and manages multiple stores downtown in a major city.
I also would look into local community collages (if you can) and take night classes. There is a HUGE demand for people in the trades and general techs - that's an easier way to land a solid job, get benefits, and earn a good income. Academic advisers can be really helpful too regarding student loans and how to pay for it, especially if you're low income. But if you invest in yourself now, you'll definitely thank yourself later! Plus, who knows - you might be eligible for a scholarship too!
I recommend getting your own phone too. There are prepaid/pay as you go options that are super cheap. I personally like ATT for this! Plus, if you run out of money, you don't have a bill to pay that month. It is important for your safety, and gives you a way to always be able to reach out to friends/family in case you need them.
I don't recommend this, but if you HAVE to and have a vehicle, you can live in your car. There are a couple of youtubers that share their experiences living in their car when money was tight, so if you do some research, there's some good resources/advice out there. If you get a gym membership (Planet Fitness is 10 bucks a month) you can shower and get ready there/use it as a bathroom facility.
I wish you the best of luck. Please be safe, take care of yourself, and I hope things work out to where you don't have to leave your parent's home until you're ready and able.
