Also other tips: * She can switch between heat and ice for the swelling and just leave it on her jaw (if she has any which she may with the pain) * Get an antiseptic mouthwash for her to help prevent infection and help it heal. I can tell you’re really bothered by it, but I can almost guarantee you’re the only person who notices! Something that may help you is a mouth wash by Colgate called Peroxyl. You can get it on Amazon for less than $10. That’s what I recommend to my patients with recurrent tonsil stones, and I’ve heard good things :) I’ve been using it since the first stone I had and have had none since. I really hope you get it figured out- and I feel you LOL I do not tolerate pain well, so I’d sooner extract tonsil stones daily than I would get a tonsillectomy 😂

Hey friend, an update.

The next day it felt better, no stinging pain, was able to floss without bad sensations.

Continued using the mouth wash you recommended and have also been doing salt water rinses.

that I had lying around, cause hey why not, and I think maybe it made it worse but I'm not sure, as it's tender again. was getting pains earlier today.

but, I've been very diligent! 3 brushings a day, 2 minutes, soft toothbrush, 1-2 flossings a day. And I've been gentle too, no sawing motions, not forcing it down.

My appointment to get my permanent crown is on the 26th. My initial appointment to get it done was on the 13th which is when the dentist remarked that my gums were quite inflamed.

If it's still tender by the 26th, what sort of questions should I ask my dentist?

What worked for me is gargling warm salt water several times throughout the day, sometimes I even put salt directly on the sore. I also used Colgate Mouth Sore Rinse https://www.amazon.com/Colgate-Peroxyl-Mouth-Sore-Rinse/dp/B00WOSEKP2# and brushed my mouth regularly right after meals.

This stuff. Or just some diluted hydrogen peroxide put on a qtip and rubbed on it a few times a day if you don't want to spring for the fancy stuff.

It helped along with the other medicine because it’s killing all the bacteria and it helped with the inflammation of the throat. Today is day 7 and I do not have a sore throat! Only had it until Friday (day 4). I use Vick’s nasal spray to help with my congestion because that clears me up the longest!

this mouthwash that uses hydrogen peroxide instead of alcohol doesn't burn!

also what about one of these ultrasonic brushes? I've never tried one but they seem quite different from a normal brush in the way that they clean. They also only take 30 seconds so even if you don't love it maybe it will be more tolerable overall?

I used these perio night guards provided by Western Dental that REALLY helped my gingivitis. Go here, it also freshens your breath/whitens your teeth a little bit too.

Just brush your teeth regularly, consistently, and gently. I overdid it and it made my gums recede just a bit. I also don't rinse the toothpaste after I brush my teeth.

This is the toothbrush my dentist recommended as well: Philips Sonicare Toothbrush , it's expensive but you can also do the option to only pay $9/mo for it. They also send you replacement heads every 3 months!

And the mouthwash I use is this Therabreath mouthwash, but eventually, I'll be using this Peroxyl Mouthwash my dentist recommended after I finish the Therabreath mouthwash.

Sounds like you might have a canker sore. They are pretty common even if you have good hygiene. They look like little white craters in your mouth. They can make your mouth incredibly sore. They are mostly seen in patients that have had braces or recent tooth work done. Canker sores really like acidic things such as juices or fruits, but you should avoid them because they make the sore worse. People gargle warm salt water but it stings and it’s probably not the best idea if you just had dental surgery. They are common in other settings as well. If you think it is a canker sore after reading this there are quite a few over the counter pastes and mouth rinses to help. I would recommend the Colgate peroxyl mouthwash to help kill the bad bacteria and the canker-X by GUM. I will leave links to both on Amazon. They can be found at most Walgreens or cvs. The gel will go on the sore.
