I have been super hapy with this guy. It is 90% the build quality and 100% (at least in my experience) the cook quality of my other All-Clad pans at a fraction of the cost. All-Clad is great, but you are still paying a premium for the brand name.
Cooks Standard still makes comparable ply cookware for cheap
I own old Tramontina, current cooks standard, and an assortment of All Clad. All Clad is definitely the nicest but the others do get you pretty close for a lot less.
My real suggestion? Don't get a 12" teflon fry pan. Your only teflon pan should be 10" or less for eggs/omlettes. For anything else, use stainless steel or cast iron, your cooking will improve massively, and your tastebuds will thank you. For a 12" pan - try this one out. http://www.amazon.com/Cooks-Standard-NC-00239-12-Inch-Stainless/dp/B0055Q2CX2
It will last you a lifetime instead of a few years like the crap nonstick pans.
I'd get a stainless steel, high walled pan you can stick in the oven. Something like this.

I do 99% of my cooking in that. Anything more soupy or saucy I just use a little pot like this.

In terms of utensils, a ladle, strainer, serving spoon, and wooden mixing spoon are super useful. Pasta server too if you make a lot of noodles.
I've been impressed with the Cooks Standard brand sold on amazon. This frying pan or this saute pan can be pretty versatile cooking tools. They include lids and are oven safe.
NICE. I wish I had had more patience for searching out used pieces. I gave in and bought some that I'm sure is sweat-shop produced in China because I am a grocery store person.
I ended up buying this stock pot: https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/salt-stainless-steel-stock-pot/3305769?poc=226082&skuId=46799784
Skillet: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055Q2CX2/ref=s9_acsd_al_bw_c_x_2_w
And both sizes of this saucepan: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00421AYIG/ref=s9_acsd_al_bw_c_x_4_w
I kept a cast iron griddle and skillet, as well as one non-stick skillet for eggs. I got rid of all of the rest of it and haven't looked back. The stainless is SO MUCH nicer than my hard-anodized non-stick giant wedding set with useless cookware sizes.
So far I've been impressed with my sauce pan from Cooks Standard. You might consider this 12" frying pan or this 5qt Sauté pan. Both come with stainless lids.
I've had this for about a year and absolutely love it.
