Corsair for headsets too. I got the first gen version of this for probably 50 or 60$, and 2-3 years later still look brand new. Only issue is the cable loves twisting on itself, but otherwise fantastic condition.
Doesn't hurt after long sessions, and the pleather cushion on top hasn't begun to peel. My old Plantronics set peeled away after a year or so.
I found the 1300 model of these on sale during closeput, 2.5 years ago and they've been great. Here's the updated version with added extras, including USB interface: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Gaming-H1500-Headset-CA-9011128-NA/dp/B00N803EMU/ref=dp_ob_title_ce
I bought all of the major gaming headsets once a couple years ago and tried them all. I'm currently using the Astro a50s because they were best, but way over priced (I'm a sucker). The best I tried that were way under $200 were actually the Corsair Vengeance 2000 wireless. I've recently tried their wired H1500 and they are on par. The mic, in particular, is fantastic. I'd go with those: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Gaming-H1500-Headset-CA-9011128-NA/dp/B00N803EMU/
Edit: Looks like they didn't adjust the price for GBP and just kept it at 59.99. Jerks.
I want to say something here that I probably should have mentioned in the OP - I'm moving up to these cans straight from a set of Corsair H1500 gaming headphones. Those things, had a lot of bass. And a serious lack of mids and highs. Everything that I listen to now is almost painfully high because of this... and I know that it's simply because I'm not used to hearing defined highs. It's going to take a bit of time for me to get used to it :P I actually am currently settling down on a more neutral EQ now after reading some other comments elsewhere. It's a lot more crisp.
Corsair H1500 is what I use. It's great with built in 5.1 and usb powered. Plus lay flat design if you're not using them.
Edit: my bad. It's 7.1 surround
