I've been enjoying the M65. Haven't had any issues with Corsair's customization program, I've never been a fan of the "Sniper" buttons and it was easy to change. The weight is good and adjustable. I've had it almost a year with no mechanical issues.
My Corsair M65 has done pretty well for me. It's great for FPS. you can get it for $55 on amazon right now. http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Performance-Gunmetal-CH-9000022-NA/dp/B00ARD5410/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1437517615&sr=8-2&keywords=corsair+m65
Corsair vengeance M65 is what I chose after some research. Had it for over a year and no complaints. They're listed at $65 on corsairs's website, but I remember only paying $50.
EDIT: $55 on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Performance-Gunmetal-CH-9000022-NA/dp/B00ARD5410
It's comfy, accurate, has many side buttons, etc. An excellent mouse!
Otherwise, the Logitech G502 is solid as well.
While that is a solid mouse I don't think it would have anywhere near a similar feel to the g9, just based on shape alone.
Yeah, I'd try some out in-store if you can (Micro Center or Fry's should have good selections if you have one in your area, Best Buy may have some options too) just because it's largely personal preference, but a comfortable mouse is pretty worthwhile if you use it a lot.
I use a Corsair M65 myself because I like the simplicity (works great for a claw grip like mine but not so much for a palm grip) but the Logitech G502 is the go-to choice for a lot of people (and from my brief time using someone else's, it's a real nice mouse). But there are tons of good ones out there, so I'd find a way to try some out before you decide.
A precise, comfortable mouse really is one of the most important things you can get to improve your performance. I can personally vouch for every mouse here except for the Corsair and the Roccat, but I've heard excellent things from friends and teammates about both of them.
Here's some of my recommendations for a good mouse:

Zowie EC-A - Right-Handed - $60-$75 + Prime Shipping
Zowie FK - Ambidextrous - $60-65 + Prime Shipping

I would reference this
> Always DISABLE Mouse Acceleration
> Always ENABLE Raw Input.
>Be able to do a 180 Degree turn easily, quickly and consistently.
>Be able to move the crosshair 1 pixel easily and consistently. If the smallest movement you can make with your mouse moves the crosshair more than 1 pixel on screen then your sensitivity is too high.
My additions:
If you prefer the one with the old sails logo, it's available at Amazon for $40 today. :)
The corsair m65 chassis is made of metal, you could look into that. http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Performance-Gunmetal-CH-9000022-NA/dp/B00ARD5410
It also has an RGB version
Pretty high price on the M65 for it being used and on HWS, you can get it brand new with Prime on Amazon for the same or less:

I use the Corsair M65 and know a few other players that do as well. It's high quality with a metal frame, has a laser sensor, two side buttons for alt attacks as well as a sniper button that lowers sensitivity when you hold it (I occasionally use this for arching). The scroll wheel is nice and chunky, has a weight adjustment system, and feels nice in the hand. I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Black
what kind of grip do you use? i have really large hands but i use the claw grip so the weight of my hand is usually off the mouse.
for claw grips i would recommend the Corsair M65, the mouse ive used and loved for 6 years (the m60 n then the m65).
I do have a corsair bias though, personally I cant stand plastic mice.
Other great fps mice include:
If you're really having problems with smaller mice, maybe the Logitech G502 will solve that problem.
It kind depends on what he plays. If you don't want a ton of buttons you could go with either: Corsair M65: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ARD5410/?tag=pcpapi-20
Razer Deathadder: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003EUPCZG/?tag=pcpapi-20
I love the M65 but that's just my personal preferance.
Corsair's m65 is fantastic. It easily lets you kill angle snapping, and it has a metal body under the top composite. http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Performance-Gunmetal-CH-9000022-NA/dp/B00ARD5410/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414889626&sr=8-1&keywords=corsair+m65
It was very highly reviewed when i was mouse shopping last month.
