The links in the upgrade doc I mentioned in another comment no longer work, but I used this set for my DS1019+. I ended up with 1600 when the guide recommended 1833 but It's been stable for over two years. I think at the time the 1833 memory was sold out or something.
Agree with the other answers. You are almost certainly out of RAM and are swapping a lot, but you need to check.
FWIW, I have the previous generation i5 BOXD54250WYKH1 and it can run a lot of stuff simultaneously, but I bought mine with 16GB of RAM. Mine also ran ESXi and Proxmox and Ubuntu/Debian/CentOS just fine, although I'm running Win10Pro on it currently.
Mine uses (this) RAM and it's about half the price I paid for mine in (cough) mid-2014 so RAM prices have definitely dropped since then. Very cheap upgrade.
Yes, but out of what's available on Amazon right now, the price difference between this and Crucial RAM isn't that big? Never tried that brand you linked, but, IDK, the worst thing that'll happen is timing/performance issues....
If those corsair vengeance ones don't work, is this what I should get instead? I know it says it's for laptops in the amazon description, but maybe the "ultra slim" part of this PC's form factor requires that?
I want to buy Crucial 16GB Kit but price is insanely expensive ! Right now They are selling them for $80 on Amazon but in the Amazon price history it was $45 for once and last year for Black Friday they had good deal on this product but this year it seems there isn't any discount . Any advice ? I want to upgrade my Lenovo Ram .

These were the 2nd set I tried, had some boot issues with a previous pair of another Brand. BestBuy or Fry's tends to actually have better prices on these types of RAM in my findings.
so i'd be safe with going with this ram ? https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3L-12800-SODIMM-204-Pin-Memory/dp/B007B5S52C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475636325&sr=8-1&keywords=DDR3L%2BSoDIMM%2B1600%2BMHz&th=1
also I followed the post on what you linked, it looked like everything was bolted down and intact so im not sure now, ill just keep a eye on temps and hope i dont have to do warranty
You might struggle to be honest.
I believe the T460 uses DDR3L RAM However, single 16GB DDR3L SODIMM sticks are few and far between - Crucial don't do any, for example. So if you do find one , chances are you'll pay over the odds for it
Sometimes, you can use DDR3 - but a) this depends on the manufacturer as to whether they support it, b) not sure you'd want to (or even able to) mix DDR3 & DD3L
And even then - a single stick of DDR3 16GB is £165 (GBP) In contrast, a single stick of 16GB of DDR4 is about £60
the T460 has two slots, right? You'd be better off buying a 2x8gb DDR3L pack - about £60
(Obviously prices will be different in US etc, but suspect the difference in prices will be comparable)
I recently purchased a 453a and replaced the ram with this kit Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) SODIMM 204-Pin Memory - CT2KIT102464BF160B https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007B5S52C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_R53Pxb2E5V5NS
Works fine and is recognized in the system.
From what I've heard, the memory controller in the T430s only supports up to 8GB per module (i.e. 16 GB total in the T430s since there are only 2 SODIMM slots) and in order to get support for 16GB modules, you have to upgrade to at least a Broadwell-generation model (2 generations newer).
I'm not sure what RAM speeds the T430s supports, but when I upgraded to 16GB, I got this (1600MHz):
The resource utilization is high, but perfectly acceptable to me. The CPU utilization is only high when the backup is running...but its been running for 3 months straight...and got 5 months to go (1.5TB).
I have read that for every 1TB of files, you need 1GB of RAM. That was the largest obstacle...and I just had to get the compatible 3rd party RAM installed (ships with 2GB, upgraded to 16GB). Although, I have noticed that even with 6TB of files to backup, it only uses 2.26GB of RAM...so maybe the relationship is not linear.
You need to check what RAM is compatible with your unit, but my DS1815+ runs this just fine: http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-CT2KIT102464BF160B-DDR3-1600-204-Pin-Notebook/dp/B007B5S52C
Side note - do not bother with SSD cache unless you support an ass-load (technical term) of users and they are accessing files that are "hot". I have personally concluded it will not help home users. I found others saying the same thing, but I did not believe them before I tried.
Here's what I used: Crucial - DDR3 PC3 12800
With a quick google search, people say that this PC will support 16GB, although the spec sheet says 8GB max. To be honest, if you already have one 4GB stick in one slot, get another 4GB and an SSD. I'd imagine that the you'd likely be happy with just an SSD upgrade.

Lower your price by quite a bit bud, I can get a kit of 2x8GB laptop RAM for the same price new. http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-DDR3-1600-PC3-12800-CT2KIT102464BF160B-CT2CP102464BF160B/dp/B007B5S52C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1428585875&sr=8-2&keywords=16gb+kit+laptop
Is it worth it?
Upgrading the RAM and inserting an SSD is always worth it. Whether or not the DVD drive has to be thrown out for that is another matter.
What do you need to buy?
Your new RAM must match the following specification:
PC3-12800 DDR3 1600 MHz, 204-pin
It is advisable to use 2 x 8 GB instead of a single 16 GB RAM module, as using only one RAM slot comes with a (small) performance penalty. If you can use both RAM slots, then use both, so you should buy two smaller modules instead of a single big one.
Crucial or Samsung RAM for example should be fine:
-> Note that the MacBook Pro can't handle more than 16 GB RAM, due to a limitation in the logic board.
As for the SSD, it must be a 2,5" one and must have SATA2, but can also have SATA3 as SATA3 is backwards compatible. Here are three examples:
SanDisk, Samsung, Western Digital, or Crucial are common brands and should be good quality. The storage space of the SSD depends on your preferences (the MacBook Pro has no real limits there), buy the most speedy one you can find in your personal price range. But whatever SSD you buy, it will always be a substantial upgrade over that internal HDD you have now.
You should use Carbon Copy Cloner (the free version will do) in order to clone your current system to the SSD. As the SSD only has SATA and no USB (which is normal, as it is meant for internal use), you will need an adapter like this to connect it to your MacBook Pro externally, so that the system can be cloned to the SSD:
This video shows you the process of upgrading your MacBook Pro:
Definitely works fine with 16GB. I've used 2 x 8GB DDR3 1600 then upgraded to 2 x 8GB 1866 which worked with a custom bios at the full 1866 speed. Both were sets from Amazon 2 x 8GB DDR3 1600 and 2 x 8GB DDR3 1866.
Ok. I’m familiar with that unit.
You need to max out the RAM to 16gb (4gb just isn’t enough)
I use this ram : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007B5S52C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_IRnHFbME6J9TW
And you want to upgrade to a SSD
I use this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0781Z7Y3S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lTnHFbM5WMQT7
You will see a night and day difference with this upgrade. It’s really worth it. Made my 2011 17” nice and snappy

I just bought this from Newegg hopefully it's legit... seems from official Synology Marketplace? I guess I'll find out:
https://www.newegg.com/synology-ram1600ddr3l-8gbx2/p/N82E16822108491?Item=9SIAJA1FNP8952
Seems legit and worth buying the official stuff if it's nearly the same price as th eun-officially supported stuff recommended elsewhere... risking memory errors and degraded array. that would be a PITA.
Here's what I found recommended elsewhere (NAS Compares) but technically unofficial:

Crucial CT2KIT102464BF160B Mémoire de 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) SODIMM 204-Pin https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007B5S52C/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_VDHX14NWYHXRWV0J7MYN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Here is a good RAM kit for around $86.99 and a quality SSD for $70.89. These are on the higher end of the price spectrum, but are very decent quality parts. If you would like some more budget-friendly alternatives, I'd be happy to find some too!
Believe these should work https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-CT2KIT102464BF160B-PC3L-12800-SODIMM-204-Pin/dp/B007B5S52C
But if you’re looking to upgrade from DDR3 to say DDR4, you may need to replace the motherboard and CPU as well as the RAM.
I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro and upgraded the RAM and added a SSD. Runs like a brand new computer. Here is what I got:
Crucial RAM 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz CL11 Laptop Memory CT2KIT102464BF160B https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007B5S52C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_Q2H5QB968XZJA0MST2V1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I would add ram until the platform could not support it, I think for a H61 platform you can get away with adding 16GB so do it 2x8GB and swapping out the hard drive to a SSD.
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-12800-Unbuffered-SODIMM-204-Pin/dp/B007B5S52C $75
SSD 1TB are going for SATA based solutions are $ 100.

Will this one work?
I upgraded RS1219+'s with this : https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B007B5S52C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Dunno if this helps
Now I'm thinking on ram, maybe I should just go for 4gb since it may be better to replace with a matched 8gb x 2 pair, although it may not make much difference vs an unmatched pair. What's the best ram one can get for X230? I was looking at this from Crucial https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-12800-Unbuffered-SODIMM-204-Pin/dp/B007B5S52C?th=1
Battery life and performance are mortal enemies. When you start buying beefier hardware in a mobile form factor, battery life will always suffer.
Another option would be upgrading your old laptop. Maxing out the RAM at 16GB and swapping the HDD for an SSD will breathe new life into the laptop. This is a bit of a risk, however, due to the age. If the motherboard dies, you’re left with RAM you likely will never use elsewhere. The SSD could be reused. The cost savings vs. a brand new laptop may be worth the risk.
Here is a video comparing boot times of your old laptop using an HDD vs and SSD:
I’d recommend this RAM kit:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007B5S52C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nHYFAb91MJS5W
I’d recommend this SSD:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07864WMK8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_3IYFAb9P95QKH
250GB is a nice baseline, but you can spend more money for a larger size if you desire.
Here is a video of someone upgrading the RAM and SSD in a similar HP laptop:
Try 105$ for the ram and another 100$ for the ssd.
I think so, or this one is a little cheaper.
They don't really change pin wise, it's just the speed or the compatibility.
That model can go up to 16GB of RAM and easily allows the install of a new hard drive. That amount of RAM will cost you about $64 and a 500GB HDD will cost you about $120. I did both of those upgrades to a friend's mid-2012 MBP and the difference is night and day. Definitely go for it. It'll even get you a few more years out of the laptop.
Also, you don't necessarily need a fresh install of OSX. Just use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your current drive to the SSD. You'll probably want to get an external enclosure ($13) to plug the SSD in to clone it. Once it's done cloning, replace the HDD with the SSD and you'll be good to go. You can then put the old HDD in the external enclosure and format it to use as an external hard drive.

There are two ram slots in the Alpha. So this is a good option.
Looks to me like a standard half-height mini PCIe card for the WiFi. I'd suggest one like this
According to Intel (which is usually a better source than the manufacturer), the chipset supports up to 16GB DDR3-1600, and you can get a kit from Amazon for about USD$50.
Thanks friend, the ram from the old system is this kit and would be going to a new laptop. I'll pay attention to the CL and speed. Thanks again.
There are a few different sets of Ram that work, 2x Crucial CT102464BF160B Being one, being another but you don't have to take my word on it.
Amazon, NewEgg also now carry the 1515+ at comparable prices. Yes there are specific RAM modules that work in it compared to others. Two I know of are this Crucial and this Corsair I have this Forum Thread bookmarked to show you the Upgrade process. This is the same thread I found the RAM modules that are compatible. Hope this Helps.
Just looking through my Amazon history, I have the same ssd the 250gb Samsung evo.
I thought it was busted but I changed the actual ssd/hdd cable and it is working a dream so if you have any issues try that before replacing your drive/ test your drive in another machine if you can
My ram is Crucial 16 GB DDR3 1600 MT/s CL11 SODIMM 204 Pin, 1.35/1.5 V Memory Module Kit https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007B5S52C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_r6ftxb3B8692N Hope that link works well
Those two upgrades gives the 2012 MBP a real second life and it can handle lots of browsing, apps open, plenty of different programming environments etc.
I've never had an OS X machine before and I think I might still prefer a Windows desktop but for a laptop it's been amazing, I'm still debating the merits of a iPad Air / iPad mini vs. an ms surface.
And this one?
I don't want to pay for more than my computer can handle. Thanks for the help!
