I really like my Cuisinart CBK-200. Its got all the bells and whistles you are probably looking for in a bread maker. I use mine mainly just on the dough cycle since I bake the bread in the oven (it comes out way softer that way). Its only about $159 right now on Amazon.
Your reasoning is entirely that you think it's not enough. You're a bleeding-heart liberal with butterflies and fluffy bunnies in your heart, not an engineer with economic strategy in your mind.
Also by the fourth month I expect to buy one of these babies on my Dividend as-is.
Both, sort of. The current budget is built around viability, minimizing the extra taxes and maximizing the success of a particular UBI policy. I'ts about maximizing the wealth of all individuals.
The caveat is an individual who starts as an adult with nothing and with no social relationships to fall back on has an immense problem affording the tools to survive--as in, he has to buy frying pans, but they're expensive up-front. It's something I don't think many people think of.
I'm seriously considering running an experiment where I get my food, personal care, and clothing out of the food, personal care, and clothing budgets. Those are the 2013 number ($100, $35, $35) adjusted by the growth in GDP-per-capita in 2014 and 2015 (a total of 6.24%), i.e. $180.60/month. Food itself is easily within $50/month (by pure calorie load, I'm able to average $20-$30/month, even with a relatively healthy and robust diet--one that gets better around the third month).
Such an experiment can only be good for my finances; it also might give me a chance to redo my kitchen, since I think I'll be able to buy one of these by month 4.
I got this one for my girlfriend for Christmas 2013 and it's been fantastic. Never had a problem with it and the recipe book it comes with is pretty good. The three loaf settings make it easy to make the right amount of bread for whatever you're doing, whether it's a lot of French bread to pair with soup or just a small loaf of white bread for sandwiches.
