It's good that there is an official, digital articles and recipes archive. But these are the articles only. There is also value in a scanned collection of the actual magazines, so you can see the original photos, layouts and advertisements.
I couldn't find an extensive collection of scanned Gourmet online after a moderate amount of searching. This is the closest I could find at the Internet Archive and it doesn't look nearly complete: https://archive.org/details/magazine_rack?query=gourmet&sin=
If OP/helpers could scan and upload there, it would be a great contribution. Dedicated book/magazine scanners actually don't cost that much and would make it a lot faster and higher quality than using a phone app.
I can't remember to be honest. Maybe there was a small difference (possibly the presence of lights) but the "upgrade" was small in any case. I might just have wanted a new shiny thing. If I recall correctly maybe it was a slight downgrade in terms of megapixels, but nothing noticed in the scans.
There can be other options. It seems that Czur has been active with several models.
Even something for just over 100 pounds. If there's doubt, buy from somewhere with a return policy...

Not a specific recommendation. You must decide for yourself.
