Yeah I would definitely look into those reed makers. But I think the way you store them is also reducing their lifespan (maybe by a lot or maybe a little it depends on a lot). I would get a humidified oboe reed case. The one I linked here is available in the US but should also be available somewhere in the UK. Humidity when storing reeds is very important so I would recommend this. Also, you only need to replace the humidity pack every 6 months so it's not that expensive to maintain especially since the Boveda humidity packs go for so cheap now.
