Reinforced the structure, painted, added legs et voila!
Interesting idea. Now I’m thinking maybe I can use black wood tape on the top and paint the legs like you suggested. Maybe something like this:
I once completely changed a plain white MDF cabinet/pantry that looked very similar to this one using contact paper. It's definitely a project but it can transform many things, I've seen people who have used it to change appliances to stainless steel and countertops too. There are many, many finishes and looks you could go for, just an example of a black wood grain.

I heard this to wrap the sides and front. Then I covered the top. So the only sides I didn’t get was the bottom and backs of the cabinets. Hopefully that link worked.
