Mine is still kicking 1 year later. No issues. Able to see license plates clearly on playback. Motion detection works. Night vision is good. This popped up for me in the Canadian store. I know nothing about it. But it’s “amazons choice”

The reason that I got one is that I was sideswiped twice in the same section of Wharncliffe over about a 6 month period. Drivers not checking their blindspot. No one 'came out of nowhere' and both times were in the middle of the day. They just decided to drift lanes without looking. I was driving a Buick at the time, so it's not like I was driving a tiny vehicle which they couldn't see very well - not that that would be an excuse, but still.
> Does the rear cam see the passengers in the car or just out the back window?
You mount it yourself. I guess technically you could put it somewhere closer to the front of the vehicle so that you also record the people in the rear portion of your car. But you wouldn't see the traffic behind you in as much detail as I'm sure that you/your insurance company would want. It's meant to be mounted to the ceiling immediately inside of your rear window.
The rear camera is a separate, small camera. It's about a 1.5cm x 1cm x 1cm cube which has a wire that you plug into the main camera mounted to your windshield. When the rear camera is plugged in, the recording is 85% the front camera and there is a picture-in-picture image of the rear camera in the upper-right hand corner. If the rear camera isn't plugged in the video is 100% from the front camera.
I could give you a list of its features, but here's the Amazon link to the camera that I have and you can see for yourself (not an affiliate link or anything shady). Current price is $60.

I'm starting to feel stupid and think you think you guys might be right after looking at the amazon site again. Let me know what you think. I've never had a dash cam and honestly didn't even know this came with a rear view camera. It was cheap and had good reviews so I just bought it without really reading
I'm currently using this one:

It records front and back.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07PX24LL6/ Currently using this one (I got it for $50 but it looks like they may have added a couple new features so now it's a bit more). Dual channel (front and back...back takes a bit of effort/skill to install - needs to be screwed in and wires hidden). Decent picture quality. The cheaper ones will die faster but my last one lasted about 5 years and only cost $30.
