I used a wiring kit that has a battery protector so it doesn't run it dead and uses a fuse tap to connect. It was fairly easy to hook up. Like this: https://www.amazon.com/Hardwire-Dashcam-Plozoe-Installation-Tool%EF%BC%8811-5ft%EF%BC%89/dp/B07FXJD8W1/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=dash+cam+wiring+kit&qid=1627497101&sr=8-3
Easier to just get one of these hardwire kits and hide the cable in the liner. Easy to install.
Exactly! The Bluetooth on the car was tricky to start working with, but once settled in it does a good job too.
My city is notorious for car break ins. My previous car was broken into like 5 times in guarded parking lots, empty streets, in front of a hospital, and on my own street. Most of the times they didn’t even take anything (because I didn’t even have anything). They even left the like 50 cents I had in the ash tray.
Here’s the rewiring kit I used for my current cam if you’re interested

Not super helpful, but if you don't want to tie up a 12V port and have visible cables, you can use a fuse tap like this one and route the wire behind the trim, up and around the windshield.
Frankly I'm more interested in replacing the button with a sunglasses holder, seeing as my RX doesn't have one.
So this was a daunting process for me personally given how many options there are. I decided I wanted several features:
I ended up with the Kingslim D4 front (4K) and rear (1080p) dash cam for $99. Also got a Samsung EVO Select 256GB microSDXC card for $40.
It plugs into the car 12v port or you can get a hardwire kit to connect it directly to your car's battery. It records and writes to the memory card in small 3 minute segments. I downloaded their app to transfer video via wifi but it was honestly pretty unreliable the one time I tried it. Transferring by memory card seems to be the best way to extract video. I'm sure more expensive units probably have better wifi adapters for better transfer of videos. But overall, pretty happy with the quality and especially the price point for this one.
This adapter or something similar should work in the fuse box without compromising any hardware https://www.amazon.com/Hardwire-Dashcam-Plozoe-Installation-Tool%EF%BC%8811-5ft%EF%BC%89/dp/B07FXJD8W1/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=34SF689G0EX19&keywords=fuse+box+dash+cam&qid=1657071346&sprefix=fuse+box+dashcam+%2Caps%2C67&sr=8-3
This is the wiring kit I used. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FXJD8W1/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_1KC8T2BVW2CQNBW76FPD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Looks like they might not make the camera kit anymore, but mine is an Apeman kit and as far as I can tell their stuff is pretty solid. As far as I can tell the battery hasn't even noticed the camera. That said, it was nearly new when I installed the kit. Battery from Napa has a 7 year full replacement warranty, so I'm not super worried about it.
Thanks for the feedback! I personally don't really care to keep it on when the car is off, that's how it was when I had it wired to my cigarette lighter in my old jetta. But since I plan to have this truck for a long time, I intend to hard wire to the fuse box.
Just bought this kit and will be wiring it in soon! Any issues with routing the wires or finding a ground nearby the fuse box? I was reading others saying there's no appropriate ground in the fuse compartment....
Tipo isto:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FXJD8W1/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_21EZBQQC7DDVF37C26ZP
This one seems similar and is available, it seems that it would work the same?
I just hardwired a camera into my Maverick yesterday.
I used this kit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FXJD8W1/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_A4Q15B85ZT50M8GH0QK9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
And I tapped into Fuse 3. According to the manual, it's for Auto Dimming Interior Mirror (which the Maverick doesn't have). I think the manual continues that fuse on to the next page and says it's also for the imaging processing module for the auto high beams, which the Maverick definitely has.
It's only hot when the vehicle is on.
I was able to snake the cable from the fuse box area through the door seal, taking the door seal off a bit to make things easier.
Then using the A pillar trim piece to get it to the top of the windshield. That popped off pretty easily as I was working the cable around it. Stear clear of the airbag that's behind that trim piece.
Then there's a gap in the headliner that you can push the cable into, up to the point where you'll want to have the camera actually mounted.
Why not a fuse tap into a fuse that only turns on when your vehicle is on? They are easy to install and you dont have to remember to flip a switch.
This is what I used for my dash cam, 2017 WRX limited:

I’m in the same boat as you bro. I don’t know which hardwire kit to get now. They make dash cam hardwire kits. You can supply put it in place for one of your fuses in the fuse box to power the camera. This kit may also work for a radar detector.
The standby power consumption and heat is why I killed off the idea of 12v strips, also selection isn't that great either since they are mostly not individual addressable. So these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FXJD8W1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_SXTNSFJ8V39T2H3Y22XJ should be fine right? As for the amperage most of these I found are 2A so I guess I'll use one, split the wire to run 2 DRL parallel controlled by one Arduino and it should be enough
This is what I used to wire my dash cam into the fuse box. It should work so long as your dash cam uses mini usb

Many companies make kits that allow you to piggyback off of the 12v from your internal fuse box, so it's even easier than having to cut and splice wires in your car. If you pick the right fuse you'll be wired into an ignition source.
I still use the 12v outlet to power mine, but by pushing it into the headliner and into the gap between the windshield and A pillar it's basically unnoticeable.

Just in case you're like me and the idea of cutting into your car's wiring harness freaks you out.
Based on your dashcam- pick the right connector mini usb/micro usb/usbC and then just amazon (connector) Dashcam hardwire kit You will find something like this link
Search amazon for dash cam wiring kit and I think this is what you’re looking for
That’s the car, not the cam. I just got a new car, my old one kept the dashcam running (and I could charge my phone) when the car was off. My new car turns off the car outlet when the car is turned off. You can hardwire to keep the dashcam running when the car is not.
I think I used Fuse #36 on my 2018 5.0, not sure if it will be the same on yours but I bought a fuse tap from Amazon that also has battery protection like this https://www.amazon.com/Hardwire-Dashcam-Plozoe-Installation-Tool%EF%BC%8811-5ft%EF%BC%89/dp/B07FXJD8W1/ref=psdc_3248689011_t2_B073J5ZZG4
The 3-wire hardwire kit has settings to shut down dashcam when battery is low but sufficient enough to start car. There are 4 settings in my hardwire kit ... 12.4v, 12.2v, 12.0v and 11.8v. I have set mine to 11.8v. Once battery is fully charged (after driving around for some time), it records for approx 3 days in parked mode continuous before voltage falss below 11.8 and the dashcam is powered down. After couple of days after that, I can still start my car without issues. Immediately on car start, the dashcam is powered up. The way it works is that 1 wire connects to fuse with 24x7 battery (like map light fuse), second wire connects to fuse which connects when ignition is on (like radio fuse) and third is ground.
2 Wire kit is good to hide the cables and connect directly to fuse so you get power when ignition is on. If you connect this to teh map light fuse, dashcam will drain battery.

Haven't done in the Born, but in my last car is just ran the cable under the cieling trim and down by the A-pilar and into the fuse box.
You can connect it to an existing fuse using a fuse tap on a suitable existing fuse, and then use a power suply that is meant to be hardwired into the car.
Have you looked at something like this: dash cam hardwire kit
No need to splice into any wires, just tap the circuit at the fusebox

And find an always on fuse

And the Viofo 129 Duo Plus as well. I thought it was the camera and exchanged it. The new one had the same problem. I did not use parking mode, but the camera was unreliable and I had to unplug it from power while the car was running. It happened when I started my car.
The problem did not happened with the usb Charger included. I ordered this one

And connected it with the fuse tap. The wire kit was totally unreliable with my X3. Has been working since then without any problems, but I do not use parking mode.
This is what I’m using. Same camera and it’s been working great. (11.5ft https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FXJD8W1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_NFC03D9WZEA1H9KKPACJ

I did this myself on my brand new volvo .... it's really quite easy to do. There are a bunch of youtubes on this. For me it's not the cost, but it is the pain of scheduling / waiting for someone.
Buy a kit like this. I'm quite handy, but was my first ever dash cam install on a brand new car I've never worked with. Here's a youtube I used for my volvo, but search "dashcam install xxxx" where xxx is your car model. Finished in 30mins.
Ok so I’d just need like a USB adapter? Something like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FXJD8W1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MP0XRFD758MP8NVD8PA0
here's the power/fuse tap kit I used. Not 100% sure what the fuse size name is, but it was the smallest one provided. https://www.amazon.com/Hardwire-Dashcam-Plozoe-Installation-Tool%EF%BC%8811-5ft%EF%BC%89/dp/B07FXJD8W1
There’s probably some wires in the front map/sos panel that you can use. 2016 es350 here and I found someone on YouTube did this. Worked for him. Not fuse protected so I’m out going that route, but I’m sure it’s possible.
I’m hardwiring to the fuse box using this

Might be easier to wire the dashcam to an aux fuse using a wiring harness wiring harness
Can be done...however that dashcam would need constant power.
You have 2 options - then forget the Mazda harness hookup method:
Yes. Buy a hard wire kit off of amazon or others. Heres an example. They are very easy to install and there are tutorial videos on YouTube.
Awesome, I'll try and figure it out.
Are you sure the Viofo kit will work with Zenfox?
