Lifeboat rations: are meant for survival situations out at sea so two important points applicable to hiking are they 1) are easily chewed/digested and 2) non-thirst inducing, the coconut is super good.
> but wouldnt it make more sense to load up on clif bars and life boat rations?
What do you think about these
Great question!
I LOATHE the life boat rations for 99% of their prepper related uses, but they are intended to be in a hot ass metal barrel exposed to all sorts of crazy weather and still be fresh many years later.
So my car food is Life boat rations.

The Mylar seal needs to be tight, and it does break easily, so I suggest ordering more than one and keeping them in tupaware containers to protect the seal. Once you open them they are not good for nearly as long, but putting it in a tupaware (still sealed) will keep other things in your bag from poking or pressing on them.
And if you need them 4 years from now, you can have a tasty cookie.
They also make mylar sealed water pouches for this same reason, mylar does not leak horrid chemicals into your water like plastic bottles do, so its good to drink out of a mylar pouch (to wash down that cookie) years later.
Just Zoe's suggestions.
