Except there was, to my knowledge. Grab a copy of David Fincher: Interviews — he discusses it in a magazine interview around the time of Alien 3.
I remember he specifically describes one of the changes made to his initial pitch of the film — “I pitched them 250 stormtroopers on the way to the planet, but in the movie there’s maybe 6 or 7,” which is him describing Bishop’s arrival with his security detail in the last act.
It sounds like the movie he initially pitched to Fox followed the same general story we got in the finished film, but with Fincher given carte blanche.
